Ah, the charm and grace of acoustic instruments played well and in tune!
That was so pretty and so mellow it was downright soothing.
It's great to hear something gentle and even-tempered for a change.
Reminds me of the background music Ken Burns chose for his epic series on the Civil War. That was a great accomplishment, but nothing he's done since can hold a candle to it.
Of course it was really wonderful old Shelby Foote who made that series what it was. They just don't make people like Mr. Foote anymore. In many ways his mature, mellow baritone and distinctive, high-class southern accent (no hick he!) is a lot like this music. They seem to go well together.
Quintessential American sound all right, but in the best sense -- nothing like the ramped, up amped up horror shows put on by Sick-sties, radical-left, drugged-up, dropped out, screwed-up Rock 'n Rollers.

Nothing wrong with your memory FT. That is the music Ken Burns used, "Ashokan Farewell" and the guy playing the violin is the composer.
