Dead And Gone (With Addendum)

Note to readers: Due to my work and caregiving schedules, I will be posting less frequently than usual.

One of my homeschool parents texted me last night at 10:51 to give me the news.

Typically, when I get a text message, I just roll over and go back to sleep. I didn't last night, of course.

I booted up the computer, started the coffee pot, and remained awake, watching television and getting the stories on the web, until midnight.

Bin Laden, age 54, has been buried at sea at an unspecified location.

According to Tammy Swofford, "burial at sea according to Islamic tradition" is strange terminology.

As Alligator said in his comment to the post below:
Bin Laden was just one head of the Hydra. Many more heads have to be cut off before the monster is dead.
Furthermore, also according to Tammy Swofford:
Naturally, the Taliban claims Osama is still alive. Unless they can produce a video with Osama holding a NYT announcing his death.....
Al Qaeda's jihad continues. No doubt, they are planning their revenge right now.

Addendum: Comprehensive report HERE, with details and photos.

  1. From THIS SOURCE:

If a person dies on a ship and if there is no fear of the decay of the dead body and if there is no problem in retaining it for sometime on the ship, it should be kept on it and buried in the ground after reaching the land. Otherwise, after giving Ghusl, Hunut, Kafan and Namaz-e-Mayyit it should be lowered into the sea in a vessel of clay or with a weight tied to its feet. And as far as possible it should not be lowered at a point where it is eaten up immediately by the sea predators.

  3. The buried at sea thing is very strange. I understand the reasoning, but I sure hope they took LOTS of pictures of his body and publish them so the world can see like they did with Saddam and his sons.

  6. "President Obama's leadership in making the targeting of Osama Bin Laden our highest military and intelligence priority, warrants our gratitude. He deserves credit for refocusing U.S. efforts in Afghanistan and Pakistan to root out terrorism which no doubt helped lead to this historic announcement."

    Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D) Florida

Ms. Schultz left out an important word her in statement: CONTINUING. She almost makes it sound as if Obama himself is the original engineer of the efforts to get Bin Laden.

I do say congratulations to Mr. Obama for following through with this. This is one of those kinds operations where this is no guarantee of success and the political damage from a screw up is incalculable. A real debt of gratitude is owed to the intelligence forces and the troops who pulled this off. I'd say the heroes will remain "unknown" for security reasons.

While celebration is in order, we must remain mindful that only one head of the Hydra has been killed. Hamas is now making direct threats against us. Hopefully more of the those Hydra heads will end up getting cut off. Some people are upset that this has happened on Obama's watch. I don't care whose watch it is, I am just glad that justice was finally served.

The issues of Obama's handing of the economy, energy, immigration, health care, etc. will still be there even if he gets a bump in the polls from this action. However, in the meantime, congratulations Mr. presi

  9. Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood condemns the killing, AOW? Gee, how amazing, huh? We're all so sorry to be condemned :=) I wonder how the Arab world felt looking at AMericans celebrating the death of Osama when all we saw on 911 was rejoicing in Arab streets...and then when Pearl was beheaded, etc etc........taking their own medicine is hard to swallow, I guess?
ugh, now our media's milking every second of this thing, I'm hearing.."was he running, did they get him in the ear, the forehead...yadda yadda yadda" He's DEAD, stop selling more ad space!
The place he was staying looks like it should have "OSAMA HIDING PLACE" on it...barbed wire and satellite dishes and 12' walls.

The burial at sea thing seems a stretch to me, ...so nobody'd have a shrine, so to speak..as if they couldn't make the whole sea a shrine!!? :-) But, of course, all they have to do is produce Osama somehow and say he's not dead, so he must be....I was thinking this would be a clever way to smoke him out if they DIDN"T get him last night........"it was a hoax because we knew Osama's ego would demand he show himself as alive" and nab him and VOILA!! HA!!

  10. Islamic tradition my bu*t. I really don't give a damn what they claim, I want to see pictures of the body.

  11. I have to agree, with the buried at sea thing we can never be sure if he's really dead. pic's can be faked, etc. Kind of like Hitler, the rumors of his death never really died down (because we never had the body, if I remember correctly). Fishy much...

But if it is true he's dead, awesome extreamly! only took, what, 10 years? now... lets get the rest of the crew!

  13. Call me suspicious, call me HIGHLY skeptical, call me anything you like, but I do NOT trust Barack Hussein Obama and his EVIL administration, not in ANY way, and if the above is true, if Bin Laden’s body has been buried at sea, I am even MORE skeptical and in disbelief at this whole thing.

Think about it for a minute, Barack Hussein Obama’s poll numbers are in the tank, he is rapidly going down in history as the WORST President EVER, and all of a sudden there’s a supposedly REAL birth certificate for Barack Hussein Obama, and then, Osama bin Laden dead? All in one week?

Really? What’s next? Magic Fairy Dust, Unicorn farts and the Lucky Charms Leprechaun are going to fix the economy?

Americans were joyous last night. There was an impromptu gathering around the gates of the White House, people singing *God Bless America*, chanting USA, USA, USA. There were more impromptu gatherings at Ground Zero and in Times Square.

The joy is easily understandable, I was happy to hear the news too, and then reality hit me like a sack of cement.

  14. Sorry for my absence here today. Tutoring to do and papers to grade.

In my view, the death of OBL is not a game changer.

Indeed, at least in the short term, the jihadists will be all riled up and searching for the opportunity to launch attacks avenging OBL's death. Indeed, I note on the web this evening that the threats of such attacks have already been issued by various terrorist groups.

    ReplyDelete
  15. "In my view, the death of OBL is not a game changer."

Absolutely correct AOW. I'm glad that got him, but there are still a couple of billion adherents of the religion of peace and even if only 5% of them aspire to do what OBL did, that is more than enough to cause very serious problems in the globe.

Politically Obama will get a bump. Andrea Mitchell, the unbiased NBC anchor, said this was a game changer and she wouldn't want to be a Republican running against Obama blah, blah blah. We are still a year and half out from election. Killing OBL does not fix the economy, curtail reckless spending, illegal immigration and it does not end Islamic terrorism. Bush's popularity went to the stratosphere following 9/11 and after taking out Saddam Hussein. But by the end of his second term, his popularity was toast.

Things change quickly and add to that the American people can change their collective mind on a dime. A lot can happen and I predict elation over the death of OBL will wane well before the election. It's foolish to peg your whole political future on one event like this.

I do think that the administration making a point of "observing Islamic tradition" in handling the body was just plain loopy, especially after hearing over and over that Bin Laden and Al Quaida do not represent "true Islam."

    ReplyDelete
  16. Our special forces are amazing. A brilliant operation executed brilliantly.

Pakistan knew Osama was there. Time to cut those duplicitous bastards loose.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I find it curious that Obama ordered the body to be buried at sea. Why? I know the reasons stated, but they don't make sense to me.

Burying the body at sea for the reasons stated is stupid, but typical of Obama and his lackeys in the media.

For one thing, bin Laden's followers don't need a burial place to create a shrine. They can (and likely will)create a shrine in the place of his birth, death, the various places he lived, where he planned terrorists attacks, etc. Literally thousands of places can be locations for shrines to Osama.

I don't buy that as a valid reason for burying Osama at sea.

And respecting the Muslim tradition? His kind doesn't deserve respect. If it were my decision, I'd display his body in a very public place with 24 hour video coverage until it rots away to dust.

Now, THAT would send a definite message to any one who would dare attack the Untied States.

My opinion? Obama wants to leave doubt that Osama is really dead, so he disposes of the body where no one could ever find it. I suspect he will use the doubt to prop up his re-election campaign somehow.

Whether Osama really is dead or not is not something I care to speculate about at the moment. I am optimistic that he is dead.

And I don't think it's merely opinion to say Obama is demonstrating to the world that he loves Muslims more than he loves America by respecting Muslim tradition. I think that part is absolute fact.

I heartily agree with your evaluation as to OBL's death upon the 2012 election.

I don't blame Obama for basking in the glory of ordering the death of OBL. OBL's death has great symbolic value on several levels.

While I don't rejoice in anyone's death, I will say that the 9/11 families should now be able to feel a sense of closure -- and, yes, of justice served.

  22. Meanwhile, all over the DC area, security has tightened up. Police presence everywhere I go -- even out here in Northern Virginia.

I do think that retaliation will come. After all the black leader of the Great Satan did order the killing of OBL. All this blather about how OBL was buried according to Islamic tradition is an attempt at appeasing the ummah. But the fact is that Islamic tradition requires an in-ground burial in the deceased's homeland.

  26. I think the major foreign policy to come out of this is: it is time to cut off aid from our "friends" Pakistan. They knew about Bin Laden and not so tacitly they support the Taliban and are great pals of Red China. I think that country is probably on the verge of disintegrating into an Islamic theocracy, and we don't need to leave them with a bunch of resources when that happens.

BTW the spontaneous crowd at the white house looked composed entirely of college students who had identical flags. How did that happen so quickly?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Cube,
Not all at the demonstration were college students. One of my homeschool students, a high-school junior, went downtown with his dad and perched himself in a tree at that same demonstration.

That said, the majority of the demonstrators were students from nearby George Washington University. A lot of them were hoping to be excused from taking exams the next day.

  34. From Powerline:

Nancy Pelosi, press conference, September 7, 2006:

[E]ven if [Osama bin Laden] is caught tomorrow, it is five years too late. He has done more damage the longer he has been out there. But, in fact, the damage that he has done ... is done. And even to capture him now I don't think makes us any safer.

    Nancy Pelosi, earlier today (2011):

The death of Osama bin Laden marks the most significant development in our fight against al-Qaida. ... I salute President Obama, his national security team, Director Panetta, our men and women in the intelligence community and military, and other nations who supported this effort for their leadership in achieving this major accomplishment. ... [T]he death of Osama bin Laden is historic....

  36. So president jughead waited 16 hours after the name of the courier had been posted on the Internet by Wikileaks before he could make up his mind.

    What a shock! (NOT)

He had absolutely no choice. The team had been trained and knew the name of the target. If he had said no, the news would have leaked and his hopes for 2012 would have been totally dashed.

    About the burial at sea...

Once again King Obama, The Dimwitted, made a "foreign policy decision" that shows his stupidity.

    1. The usual Islamic barbarians were out in force protesting his decision to do so. (the sea burial)

    2. Now that they're angry, (how do you tell?) what are they going to do, kill Americans, Christians, Jews or their own brethren by beheading, gunning down innocent civilians blowing them up or fly 747s into high rise buildings to show their support for Osama, the Taliban, al Quada, The Palestinians, Islam or the world wide Caliphate?

    From that link you left:

...Leon Panetta was directing the operation with both his own CIA operatives, as well as direct contacts with military – both entities were reporting to Panetta only at this point, and not the President of the United States. There was not going to be another delay as had happened 24 hour earlier. The operation was at this time effectively unknown to President Barack Obama or Valerie Jarrett and it remained that way until AFTER it had already been initiated. President Obama was literally pulled from a golf outing and escorted back to the White House to be informed of the mission....

  42. The idiots who run the White House have created a real credibility problem here and I am not just talking about their refusal to release the photo. Their story on what happened in Pakistan seems to change almost daily. First Osama used a woman as a human shield and now we are told he was unarmed but was shot in the head for "resisting."

It's pretty clear that the WH prefered to see Osama killed, rather than captured and got their wish. How convenient.

And now Obama is taking a victory lap at Ground Zero after REFUSING to go on both 9/11 anniversaries.

All the brouhaha over the photo not being shown also allows them to stretch this thing out and keep everyone from talking about how high gas prices are.

I'm glad Osama is dead and I agree that it was the right thing to send in a special forces team but I would have prefered he be taken alive so we could waterboard him.

I guess in the liberals mind it's not ok to waterboard him but it is ok to shoot him.

  43. Texas Fred emailed me the following:

So, Osama bin Laden is standing before God waiting to hear his punishment, when God gets a tap on the shoulder.

Behind him stands 343 firefighters, 72 police officers, one K9 officer, 3,000 American citizens & over 5,000 soldiers.

The Senior Officer says, "Don't worry, God, we got this!"

  44. Mike,
I would have prefered he be taken alive so we could waterboard him.

A few days afterward it comes out advanced interrogation techniques lead to the discovery of the name of the courier and wire taps lead to information that confirmed they had the right guy.

and then we have 19 different versions about how it went down in the compound and debate of the burial all of which the Community Coordinator in Chief has not idea how to respond to because the truth is clear, Obama only allowed others to act because he had to meanwhile Obama himself was on the golf course again......

Remember this is the same guy that had 18 different phone calls with the sniper team before giving the order to shoot the pirates when they had guy who tried to escape twice...

I guess I and most americans are simpletons because it would have taken me 16 hours to decide whether or not to exterminate this bug.....

I just hope that some who would vote for Obama will see what we in the blogosphere is seeing with regard to how incompetent this administration is. So far, most mainstream media articles about the inconsistencies in the stories are excusing Obama and, indeed, promoting his administration as the most competent ever. Sheesh.
