Try Objectivity, Please

For a few moments, let's be honest with ourselves, even if we cannot be honest publicly. Yes, our political views make such brutal honesty even more difficult.

The above said, we should make herculean efforts to be honest with ourselves — particularly for us who are voters in a democratic republic. Let's get past cognitive bias and political-party bias and all that.

1) Below is a short video of one of Joe Biden's recent outbursts. He is furious! And in the friendly venue of the AFL-CIO. My grandmother started having such outbursts, complete with similar gestures, post-stroke and when the situation certainly didn't merit such an outburst.

2) Watch President Biden's face in the short video below.  What do you notice about his facial expressions and body language?

2) To close this post, let's have some wry humor and perhaps something we can all agree on.  Heh.

The Left is Crazy

Silverfiddle Rant!
Yes, people on the left really are crazy.  Many on the left "ignore the science" and continue to wear masks even after getting vaccinated, and they suffer more psychosis and authoritarian tendencies.  Privileged white racists aren't performing enough hate crimes, so leftwing activists have to make them up.  By the hundreds.

People like the poor cracked woman quoted below provide a window into the hysteria-fueled progressive psyche.  She is clearly driven by irrational fear and loathing.  She performs the all-too-human act of projecting her bugaboos onto those she doesn't like and she ascribes motives with zero evidence. I pity her.

New York Times editorial board Mara Gay told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that she was disturbed to see pickup trucks with "dozens of American flags" and Trump paraphernalia during a recent trip to Long Island.

"I was on Long Island this weekend," she said. "And I was really disturbed."

"I saw, you know, dozens and dozens of pickup trucks with expletives against Joe Biden on the back of them, Trump flags, and in some cases, just dozens of American flags, which is also just disturbing, which essentially the message was clear, this is my country. This is not your country. I own this."

People Have Gotten ‘Institutionalized’ by COVID (dated May 6, 2021).

Excerpt:
...As the vaccine has brought the promise of liberation from a year of masks, lockdowns, canceled travel plans, and forgone family visits, there is a contingent of Americans who are simply not prepared to move on. They have somehow gotten used to the restrictions and are wary of returning to their pre-COVID-19 lives. In short, they’ve become “institutionalized.”...
...[W]e are in the midst of a destructive feedback loop. Leaders make statements that overstate the current risk of COVID-19, which ends up guiding the decisions of local officials, and it also makes people more nervous about returning to normal. The people who are nervous remain less likely to pressure local officials to change irrational policies....

As I observe all the mask wearers here in Northern Virginia all masked up even when jogging or alone in their cars, I have to wonder if we are turning into a nation of hypochondriacs and — worse — a nation of sheeple.

And we also have the extreme vaxxers (from Facebook):
One solution to getting everyone to get the vaccine...bar anyone who has not had a vaccine (except for those with medical reasons) from entrance to any store, restaurant, bar, airplane, resort, movie theater, etc. Maybe when we deprive them of such things will they come to their senses.
Can we somehow turn back the clock so that Americans are not running scared and willing to subject themselves to tyrannical voices?

Tucker Carlson On March For Our Lives

Introductory blurb from Conservative Tribune:
...Whenever someone calls Hogg out on the fact that being a shooting survivor does not make one an expert on constitutional law, gun policy, school security, or really anything other than your own experience, they’re called insensitive — almost as if the left is hiding behind these child soldiers, using them as human shields.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson has had enough of this line of thinking....

Please take time to watch the following video before commenting:

Did you note the quotation from the Parkland Manifesto @ time marker 5:50ff? Tie medical charts to a database of gun purchasers, and privacy laws should be amended so that the government keeps medical records! Wowzer!

Pelosi Outvoted — And Delusional

Last week, Nancy Pelosi vehemently advocated for keeping the student painting below on the walls of the United States Capitol:

Read additional details HERE, including the following:
...The controversial painting was selected as part of a student art competition in Rep. William Lacy Clay's district. The Missouri Democrat hung it in the Capitol, and Republicans immediately demanded that it should be taken down.

After the Architect of the Capitol agreed the painting should be removed, Pelosi appealed the decision to the House Office Building Commission. Pelosi herself sits on that panel, which also includes House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.

The panel rejected her appeal in a 2-1 vote...
And then there's this (from C-Span on February 6, 2017):

Transcript HERE (if the video is no longer available).

Keep it up, Leftist loons. America is watching.

Hillary Rodham Clinton's Laugh Of The Lunatic

With a hat tip to Adrienne of Adrienne's Corner:

Read Is Hillary Clinton sick? Insane?...

Also see Hillary Clinton freezes in fear over a heckler.

Is it any wonder that she regularly disappears from the campaign trail for a day or two?

My own anecdotal "evidence":

When I first saw the prism on Hillary's eyeglasses — during the Benghazi Hearings, no less — I knew without a doubt that she had suffered some kind of TBI. Mr. AOW had to wear prisms like that because his hemorrhagic stroke damaged at least one nerve controlling equal tracking of the eyes.

I can't prove it, of course, but I suspect that Hillary's outburst during the Benghazi hearings was directly related to steroids prescribed for brain swelling.  I know something about steroids as prescribed for brain swelling: Mr AOW had to take large doses of steroids after his brain surgery in 1993.

As for what's going on right now with Hillary's health, I have little personal frame of reference other than to say that her abdomen appears bloated. I've seen that kind of bloat in family members who had congestive heart failure (my grandmother, for example, and she wore tunic tops to disguise the bloat) and in acquaintances who were late-stage alcoholics.

Book Review...Rosemary Kennedy: The Hidden Kennedy Daughter

Recently, I read Rosemary: The Hidden Kennedy Daughter by Kate Clifford Larson, who also wrote Bound for the Promised Land, a biography of Harriet Tubman, and The Assassin's Accomplice, an account of Mary Surratt's part in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.

This 2015 book details Rosemary Kennedy's academic struggles and the family's struggles with trying to find academic and social solutions for a family member who couldn't — or wouldn't — live up to the standards expected by Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr.  One primary motive for having his daughter, age 23, undergo a lobotomy at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C., in November 1941, seems to have been the concern that she would bring disgrace upon the family and, thereby, interfere with his plans for establishing a Kennedy political dynasty.

Thought For Today

As I have mentioned at various locations in the blogosphere, my mother-in-law is in the final stage of Alzheimer's Disease. She is a pitiful creature, and all who love her are more than ready for the Lord to call her home.

Before she was diagnosed as having Alzheimer's, she was very difficult.  The word difficult doesn't begin to convey her personality.

"This Woman Is My Mother"

If you must have politics, please scroll down)

The words in the title of this post appear with frequency in Mira Bartók's memoir The Memory Palace, a first-person narrative about growing up with a schizophrenic mother.

Occasionally, the author varies the sentence by writing "This creature is my mother."

A sad book?

Not really — even though the author's mother, formerly a piano prodigy, deteriorates mentally over the years until she lives the last seventeen years of her life as a homeless person.

Politics And Mental Health

A few weeks ago, Indigo Red left the comment below to this thread here at Always On Watch (emphases mine):

The roots of the current problem go all the way back to the Eugenics Movement that spawned the Holocaust and Planned Parenthood.

"It is true Gov Reagan did gut funding for state mental hospitals, but was forced to do so by court decisions ruling that the mental health patients could not be confined without patient consent or due process. Previously, people could be detained and institutionalized for any number of reasons and often for no good reason.

In an attempt to find alternatives to the eugenics movement that contributed so much to the Holocaust, a federal mental health study was begun in 1955 resulting in the 1963 Mental Health Act as part of John Kennedy's New Frontier. From this came multiple court decisions emancipating the mentally ill from the vagaries of the law and the shame of families with mentally ill members. Because the decisions were Federal and states are always trying to save local money, the Federal gov't then became the funding agency of first resort while states cut back on local funding. The Federal budget was not large enough to cover all the new fiscal demands of the new found mental health gold mine limited the resources to the states. (Lesson for ObamaCare.)

While Reagan was governor (1967-75), a Federal court ruled in Jackson v. Indiana (1972) that due process required the commitment for mental health treatment also required adequate and appropriate treatment must be provided - the mentally ill could no longer be warehoused for the safety of themselves and society, they must be treated in preparation for release to the general population and several lower courts recognized the due process right of the mentally ill. In that same year, Gov Reagan signed the Lanterman–Petris–Short Act effectively doing what the O'Connor v. Donaldson ruling would do nationwide in 1975. The LPS bill had bipartisan support and was widely lauded by the left as a civil rights masterpiece. The ACLU argued for the end of forced institutionalization of harmless insane people. Ronald Reagan argued just the opposite, but was compelled by the courts to release the harmless mentally ill without any guidance on what harmless meant after hospitalization and medication. It was, in fact, assumed that the mentally ill, when returned to sanity, lucidity, and reality, would voluntarily continue their treatment and medications never wanting to go back to crazy. Boy, were the experts ever wrong.

As President, Ronald Reagan repealed the Mental Health Systems Act by signing the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1981 consolidating ADAMHA's treatment and rehabilitation programs into a single block grant enabling each State to administer its own allocated funds. The repeal of the community mental health legislation and the establishment of block grants, the Federal role in mental health services changed once again from funding to providing technical assistance in increasing the local providers capacity for mental health services to a population of growing mental health concerns because of the continued redefining of and addition to mental health disorders.

Once the funding responsibilities of States had been taken up by the Federal government and the States having found other uses for the money formerly used for the mentally ill, States were reluctant and loathe to finding new State funding or dropping other programs to re-fund moribund mental health programs. And now we're stuck with mentally ill people without help, without the wherewithal to request help, and a society so increasingly frightened of the mentally ill they are threatening to disarm in the face of danger and at the same time take to the streets with pitchforks and torches to chase down and slay the monsters among us. What a fine mess good intentions have left us."

AOW, I have a cousin not much younger than myself who has been mentally ill for as long as I can recall. As a child he would beat his head against walls and his family thought it was cute as did schools and doctors. Eventually after many years in and out of prison and mental hospitals, and not being able to find adequate help, he took control of his life the only way he knew how - with a screw driver in his hand, he faced two police officers in an alley who shot him 7 times. He survived, but since that time almost 30 yrs ago, he has been in prison for psychiatric care. It's where he wanted to be -- or dead. He's been diagnosed as autistic and schizophrenic and had been before such diagnoses had been possible.

As the above words by Indigo Red indicate, the law of unintended consequences has reverberating effects that can direly affect society — effects that reap the whirlwind.

Now, how do we remedy this mess? Or CAN we remedy this mess and, at the same time, safeguard individuals' rights?
