Accurate — Or Not?

A comment at Weasel Zippers to the May 22, 2016 post Trump Leads Clinton For First Time In Average Of National Polls:
Dookoo vader

Barry's "Yes We Can" slogan was borrowed from socialists. Hitlery's "Stronger Together" is taken from Mussolini's fascism; unity was symbolized by a bundle of wooden rods (fasces) being "stronger together" when they were bound together. It's almost like Barry and Hitlery continually give hints as to what they actually are.

  1. "Yes We Can" was borrowed from socialists?

Seems pretty sketchy but one thing we do know was borrowed from socialists, the Pledge of Allegiance.

    Just sayin'.

    1. The topic of this blog post is not the Pledge of Allegiance.

    2. Ducky,

Thank you fro that reminder. The Pledge was pushed by socialists and promoted to official stature during the Progressive Era. Ironic how it's all flipped now...

Look out! We're going through another such social and political inversion. Benito Clinton, dictatorial Obama statists and the angry leftwing fascist mobs, like the one in Albuquerque last night, seal the left's place as the home for neo-fascism.

      Thanks for brining that up!

    3. from Wikipedia:

Obama's campaign used the slogan "Change we can believe in" and the chant "Yes We Can". The latter slogan is shared with the United Farm Workers and associated with its founder César Chávez and is well known amongst Latinos in its Spanish form Sí se puede.

    4. Si se Puede - Cambiar. "Yes we Can" - "Change"

    5. In other words, Farmer, "Yes We Can" is simply a generic phrase.

      Pitch till you win.

    6. Article on the New Mexico riot, Silver

You have to be careful when you generalize.

I enjoyed the line about ... "the real Black Panthers, not the two guys with berets outside the polling station in Philadelphia who scared Bill O'Reilly white."

    7. Ducky, They were leftwing pro-illegal immigrant Democrap voters. What's not to generalize about.

Violent fascism has found a welcoming home on the left. You guys spout the rhetoric, so you own the chickens that come home to roost in your DemonCrap party rotten house of hate. Stinks in there, don't it?

    8. "Yes We Can" is simply a generic phrase....

      Is it?

After AeroMexico, a Mexican airline, had filed a trademark application for "Sí se puede" with the US Trademark Office, lawyers for the United Farm Workers defended the phrase as the intellectual property of the UFW. After litigation, AeroMexico agreed not to use the phrase and abandoned its trademark application.

...notice the little "circle R" next to si se puede...

    9. Gerbils are Real FoodMay 26, 2016 at 4:56:00 PM EDT

Here's Ducky is right on this issue. I'm going to have to take his side.

    10. Here's Ducky hasn't been right on an issue since 1954.

    11. Canardo was BOARN on the LEFT side of the bed.

He cain't hep it, he was BOARN to be forever in the WRONG –– a genetic defect no doubt.

  2. "Si se puede" has been used all over Latin America by all kinds of organization left, right or otherwise, so I pretty much agree with ducky's first sentence.

The commenter is on more solid ground with Hillary's slogan. In another age, a bellicose strongman Hillary would have given Hitler, Mussolini, Tojo and Mao a run for there money on destructive wars and millions slaughtered.

Anyway, I didn't know that was her slogan> I thought, according to the international symbol she uses for her campaign, it was "This way to the Hospital."

    1. Podemos (we can) has become a pretty big "Socialist" deal in Spain.

    2. "Stronger Together" could very well have been taken from the American Revolution...

    3. Speedy,
Good catch on that second one!

    4. UFW is AFL-CIO. Si Se Puede. Stronger. Togther.

    5. Not to be contrary, but does any of that recondite minutia really MATTER in the great Scheme of Things when everything around us seems to be coming down in sheets of flame?

    6. I prefer "no I won't" and "over my dead body"

  3. Uh oh!

The white-haired cigar store indian with high cheekbones from the Harvard Tribe is on the warpath against the orange man!

Time for Joe Biden to hop in his 74 Camaro and head down to the 7-11 to grab a six pack and make some Apu jokes about the Hindoo cahsier...

    * - "Progress" It doesn't mean what they think it means.

    1. Lizzie Warren's sharpened axe
Waits to give "Kapital" forty whacks,

And when she has destroyed the banks

She'll say you owe her many thanks.

      Then engines of th' economy

      She’s reduced to beggary
Will go down on bended knee

      To save themselves from bankruptcy
At your expense, and then you'll see

      The end of private property,

      And all forms of democracy.

      You'll be reduced to penury

      By Lizzie Warren's axe.

She longs to heavily levy on thee

      ~ FreeThinke

    2. About Elizabeth Warren:

Before the crash that she blamed on speculators, Senator Elizabeth Warren made a bundle by flipping houses.

Warren must not understand the proverb: "People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."

    3. Examples of base hypocrisy and double dealing from the Left are so numerous as to confound the minds of rational men and women of good will.

    4. All that aside, I believe my rhymed, tongue-in-cheek evaluation of of Elizabeth Warren is dead on target, despite its whimsical nature.

Applying a light touch when exposing the evils and fundamental stupidity of leftist policies can have a far more devastating effect than the pompous, dead serious "broadsides" of which we see far too much especially here in the blogosphere.

Nothing is more devastating to shallow, self-important individuals who mistakenly believe they "know something" than to expose their essential foolishness through satire and outright ridicule.

  4. SF...sorry I can't figure out how to reply to YOu here, but the leftwing fascist mobs chasing all of Trump's events is really curious...imagine the media if they were rightwing mobs plaguing any of their candidates..."Oh, the horror!"
Ya, it's becoming pretty commonplace that Leftwingers simply can't listen, or abide by, ANYTHING way of thinking other than theirs...I suppose leftwing teachers are to blame, I'm not sure..

I'd be so ashamed to be a 'progressive'...what a horrible legacy they're creating ...for us and this country :-(

    1. The DemonCrap Party is the House of Hate.

Now it's our turn to sit back, pop open a cold one, and watch the Democrats try to put out the various fires they started by attempting to be on every side of every issue.

    2. Meanwhile, at Oberlin College:

Oberlin students want to abolish midterms and any grades below C

Students at Oberlin College are asking the school to put academics on the back burner so they can better turn their attention to activism.

The students say that between their activism work and their heavy course load, finding success within the usual grading parameters is increasingly difficult. "A lot of us worked alongside community members in Cleveland who were protesting," Megan Bautista, a co-liaison in Oberlin's student government, said, referring to the protests surrounding the shooting death of 12-year-old Tamir Rice by a police officer in 2014. "But we needed to organize on campus as well — it wasn't sustainable to keep driving 40 minutes away. A lot of us started suffering academically."...

    3. Z,
the leftwing fascist mobs chasing all of Trump's events is really curious...imagine the media if they were rightwing mobs plaguing any of their candidates..."Oh, the horror!"

It's the same old double standard.

    4. AOW, double standard is right...typical.

and YES, I saw that Oberlin ROT this morning..imagine? "My parents didn't pay for me to get C's"?? That's on one of the posters there!
      Therin lies the difference.

Lib kids who haven't a clue, and good kids whose parents raised them to accept responsibility and to work hard.....You can BET that Republican students get better grades for more reasons than this one, but the one I'd like to point out after having read the bit you posted about how much time and effort it takes to organize protests (what?~!) is similar to daily life of adults; Dems have the time to rip up a town and Reps are working....
I hate what the Left is doing to AMerica SO MUCH.

    5. As SJW snowflake's go, Oberlin has some of the best

"Oberlin students, as part of their list of demands, are asking for $8.20 per hour as an activism wage."

Surprised they're not asking for $15.

"I literally am so tired of learning about Marx, when he did not include race in his discussion of the market!”

Marx's explanation of the rise of capitalism placed the African slave trade at its heart. You shouldn't even earn a "C", snowflake.

  5. Just my opinion, but I think that Trump is gonna trounce the HildaBeast this election. He seems to be very popular here in the South. Plus the HildaBeast is in "it" deep this time too, as I'm sure y'all have already heard on the news. Guess time will tell if the Clinton's will ever be punished for all their felonies and misdemeanors.
Have a blessed day AOW. ~:)

    1. Sparky,
the HildaBeast is in "it" deep this time too, as I'm sure y'all have already heard on the news

Maybe. The story did make today's front page of the WaPo -- above the fold:

The State Department’s independent watchdog has issued a highly critical analysis of Hillary Clinton’s email practices while running the department, concluding that Clinton failed to seek legal approval for her use of a private server and that agency staff members would not have given their blessing if it had been sought because of “security risks.”

The report by the inspector general’s office concludes that Clinton, the Democratic front-runner for president, handled email in a way that was “not an appropriate method” for preserving public records and that her practices failed to comply with department policy. The review found that Clinton, who has said her system was secure, also never provided security details to agency officials responsible for safeguarding sensitive government information.

The 83-page report reviewed email practices under the past five secretaries of state and found persistent problems with ensuring that records are preserved in keeping with federal law. But the review was sparked by the controversy over Clinton’s email setup, and the report is particularly critical of her practices.

    2. Could it be that HillaryBeast will not be the nominee after all?

  6. That more than 150 people are willing to vote for the hildebeast is all we need to know that this country is flushed. Enjoy libtards. You're in for a real shock :-)

  7. I'm proud that I'm NOT a ProgressiveMay 26, 2016 at 7:40:00 AM EDT

Will the Libs really make a stand for Righteousness and convict Hillary for her actions. Many have tried, but not succeeded. She lied to the citizens about their loved ones and got by with it - told other lies about a movie instead of terrorism. Countless times she and Bill too, lied to US and got by with it. If there is true justice in America, she should be tried and convicted! Wait and see - pray and trust in God to bring forth the truth that will set US free - finally!!!

  8. From the WaPo Editorial Board today:

Clinton’s inexcusable, willful disregard for the rules

By Editorial Board May 25 at 7:13 PM

HILLARY CLINTON’S use of a private email server while secretary of state from 2009 to 2013 has been justifiably criticized as an error of judgment. What the new report from the State Department inspector general makes clear is that it also was not a casual oversight. Ms. Clinton had plenty of warnings to use official government communications methods, so as to make sure that her records were properly preserved and to minimize cybersecurity risks. She ignored them....

    1. Some very bright grad student might be able to earn a Ph.D. very easily by documenting every time H. Rodham Clinton has told the truth.

It would probably turn out be the shortest Ph.D. dissertation on record.

    2. The shortest PhD thesis I am aware of was just 9 pages long.

  9. Either way, no hint is necessary as to what this regime is about. Message received.

There are approximately 1,500 newspapers, 1,100 magazines, 9,000 radio stations, 1,500 TV stations and 2,400 publishing houses all of whom are owned and operated by only SIX CORPORATIONS.

    These six companies are:

GE who owns Comcast, NBC, Universal Pictures, Focus features

NEWSCORP who owns FOX News, Wall Street Journal, the New York Post

DISNEY who owns ABC, ESPN, Pixar, Miramax,
    Marvel Studios

VIACOM who owns MTV, Nick Jr., SET, CMT, Paramount Pictures

TIME WARNER who owns CNN, HBO, TIME, Warner Brothers Studio

CBS who owns Showtime, Smithsonian Channel, NFL.com, Jeopardy, 60 Minutes

ABC News executive producer Ian Cameron is married to Susan Rice, National Security Adviser.
CBS President David Rhodes is the brother of Ben Rhodes, Obama's Deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communications.
ABC News correspondent Claire Shipman is married to former White House Press Secretary Jay Carney
ABC News and Univision reporter Matthew Jaffe is married to Katie Hogan, Obama's Deputy Press Secretary
ABC President Ben Sherwood is the brother of Obama's Special Adviser Elizabeth Sherwood
CNN President Virginia Moseley is married to former Hillary Clinton's Deputy Secretary Tom Nides.

This, of course, is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to modern Journalism’s incestuous relationship with Government.
So now you know why it is no surprise the media usually goes very easy on Obama's obtuse, disloyal, anti-American, contemptible internationalist attitude, and the multitudinous evidence of H. Rodham Clinton’s corruption, basic dishonesty and gross incompetence.

Not that any so-called "liberal" would ever admit it. Leftists see the world darkly through a glass that must be far more opaque than that used by more Conservative individuals.

    1. The Enemedia = incestuous collusion.

That said, HRC's latest problem with her email and her server is now being covered by all the enemedia.

Couldn't we PLEASE retire the abominable phrase FACT CHECK, too often used as both noun and verb these days, and return to the older, more precise terms VERIFICATION and VERIFY?

I cringe, and my flesh crawls whenever I hear "news analysts" or other "public personalities" utter phrases such as, "I feel much better about the fact that So-and-So FACT CHECKED the item before publishing it." -OR- "She needs TO FACT CHECK her speeches before she reads them from her teleprompter."

Did you know that no less a critic than George Orwell expressed disdain for any writer or public speaker who used "the fact that?"

Our heroic high school English teacher, Mr. W., warned us against this and other atrocious linguistic practices such as the insertion of moronic "pleonastic" prepositions in phrases such as "It's not that big OF a deal," - OR - "When tactics employed by union thugs cause salaries to rise, costs mount UP.

And God help you, if you you dared say anything as graceless and frankly stupid as, "They don't know where they're AT."

We were expected to avoid ending sentences with a preposition and splitting infinitives in most cases, although Mr. W. was not as rigid in enforcing that prohibition, because there are times when such punctiliousness harms the natural flow of dialogue, and makes the writing sound stilted.

Anyone who violated our teacher's ban on these forbidden forms of English usage in expository writing would receive an "Automatic F" regardless of the quality of content in other parts of the assignment.

Exceptions could be made, of course, but ONLY if we were attempting to write fiction involving foreigners or common, ignorant, street-wise characters using colloquial speech native to their low-class origins, and poor socio-economic status.

    1. FT,
Couldn't we PLEASE retire the abominable phrase FACT CHECK, too often used as both noun and verb these days, and return to the older, more precise terms VERIFICATION and VERIFY?

Idiomatic. And the only decent graphic which I had time to find. I would have preferred to find a graphic with a hyphen because "fact-check" is standard usage.

BTW, Merriam Websterhas this entry for fact-check as a verb.

    2. PS: I am allergic to a preposition as the final word of a clause.

    3. From this very page:
"Could it be that HillaryBeast will not be the nominee after all?"

"after all" is a prepositional phrase ;)

    4. Jez,
It is permissible to end a sentence with a prepositional phrase because the last word of a prepositional phrase is a noun of pronoun.

    5. That might be acceptable at the hippy nude love-in where you obviously reside, but not in my book! :P

  13. I have a feeling you thought I was trying to criticize YOU, personally, for the use of that illustration, AOW. I'm sorry if that is the case, because nothing could be farther from the truth.

Very frankly I DON'T GIVE A TINKER'S DAM };^)> whether "Fact Check" or "To Fact Check" have gained popular acceptance or wormed their way into ANYONE'S dictionary, with the possible exception A Dictionary of American SLANG.

I refuse to consult any history book or treatise on English Usage published after 1965-70. As we know all too well, since that time, society has been thoroughly MUCKED UP by college professors and public school teachers devoted to spreading the dictates of Cultural Marxism.

Meanwhile, whether "To Fact Check" is now considered acceptable or not, I believe it is up to those of us who still cling to pre-Marxian standards of good English usage to promote, protect, defend, and disseminate SUPERIOR English usage before good literature and our precious language, itself, become transformed into a quasi-FOREIGN language requiting "scholarly" translation to be understood.

Meanwhile, here are some excellent alternatives to the abominable POPULAR USAGE:

    Synonyms for VERIFY:

attest, authenticate, bear out, certify, corroborate, substantiate, support, validate, confirm, vindicate

back up, testify to, vouch for, witness; guarantee, warrant; affirm, assert, aver, avow, declare, profess; demonstrate, document, establish, prove, reinforce

With few exceptions ANY of the above would be preferable to "FACT CHECK" which, like the hateful "Ms." is an invention of leftists pushed by the enemedia in their concerted effort to spread CONFUSION, promote IGNORANCE, destroy REFINEMENT, promote COARSENESS, PERVERSION and DEGENERACY at every level.

    A few more examples:

The use of FAIL when FAILURE is required,

The use of INSTALL when INSTALLATION is meant,

The use of INVITE when INVITATION would be correct

The invention of TRUTHINESS the meaning of which I still can't comprehend

These are but a few of the depressing changes forced on the language by ill-intenioned leftists and their foolish followers.

I may be the last person on earth to insist on maintaining high standards, but I shall continue to do so to my dying day.

    1. I use "truthiness" only in a technical context (computer science) to describe what happens to non-boolean variables when they are coerced to a boolean type, for example the integer 0 might be "falsy", and the integer 1 might be "truthy" -- there are occasions where the distinction is important. Another way of saying it is "truthy" is not identical but evaluates to "true".
If other people use it outside that context, I assume it is by analogy with that, ie truthy means "not exactly true, but if it needs to be either true or false, it might as well be true."

    2. FT,
I have a feeling you thought I was trying to criticize YOU, personally, for the use of that illustration, AOW.

I'm just miserable in general. Gut pain! Each attack is worse than the last -- and lasts longer, too.

After Memorial Day, I'll likely take a blog break because I'll be in doctors' offices in search of a diagnosis and some RELIEF.

  14. FACT CHECK!... The Republicans ( AKA the group of baboons) have been smearing and lying about this woman for 30 years. And they've attacked her family. Remember they thought they'd drag her down with BENGHAZI! That didn't work, so they're like a dog on a bone with the email controversy. Maybe she used poor judgement, as did others in The State Department have. And what does Hillary Clinton know about computers anyway?
Look at the things they have said about Obama. Tar baby, boy, uppity. Calling out liar during the state of the union. Republicans printed the address of the house Obama's children were staying at for summer vacation and published photos of the house. They were posted right here on these boards which is how I know.
No one is off limits to Republicans. And pretending that Rush Limbaugh and Fox don't represent the GOP is ridiculous. When you step back and look at the GOP, they come across as a party of scum.

    2. Oh, yes....please link where a Conservative called Obama 'tar baby' or 'uppity'....I'd like to see that, because I never have.
I have, however, seen 'progressives' rejoicing over Tony Snow's death from cancer so happily at HuffPost that the site crashed.
In contrast, I purposefully checked around the blogosphere when Ted Kennedy died and 99% of the Conservative comments were "I didn't agree with him, but I wish his family well.!"
      And you call Republicans SCUM!?
Meanwhile, vote for Hillary and then wonder why we've turned into Venezuela.
Good thinking....Oh, and while you're at it, poison our kids into deserving entitlements, too...and illegals. See how far that gets our country.

    3. Oh, yes....please link where a Conservative called Obama 'tar baby' or 'uppity'....I'd like to see that.

  15. FACT!!!!! Washington (CNN) – In the heat of the political debate over the debt ceiling last week, Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Colorado) may have crossed the line when he said that being associated with President Obama would be similar to touching a “tar baby”.

I'm sure that you know how to use Google by now!

  16. The term “tar baby” is a reference to 19th-century Uncle Remus stories about Br’er Rabbit but has taken on a negative connotation towards African-Americans

    1. Donald Trump is the ultimate tar baby! Can't wait till Hillary grabs him! :)

    1. Obama is more like little black Sambo than a tar baby... sitting in a tree watching the tigers go around. :)

    2. Paul Ryan LOVES that "transgender tar baby" that Democrats slipped him in the appropriations bill. :)

  18. Whether or not some refuse to acknowledge it, it is still true. And, it applies across the board, but to Hillary and to Trumpster

Truth often hurts when it hits home and as a result defense mechanisms start working overtime. So all I'm going to say is good luck. May the best lying idiot win.And make no doubt about it it, this time we have 2 of the biggest lying candidates in history.

  19. HEADS UP: A Proud Progressive, better known elsewhere as Miss Pee Pee, functions brilliantly as the Internet's Own TOKYO ROSE –– the Ultiamte Troll. She works tirelessly to demoralize and psychologically castrate decent American Men again and again, as she schemes day and night to exacerbate differences between the sexes, reopen and pour salt into old wounds, and ceaselessly agitate, denigrate, chastise, castigate and condemn everything in sight in order to turn women against their husbands and children against their parents, and all of us against our Founding Fathers –– and each other –– while discarding the core Constitutional principles that made us great in the first place.

  20. fyi - Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump is scheduled to be in Washington, D.C., on Sunday to attend the Memorial Day event with Rolling Thunder. “I am doing it in honor of the great bikers who have been totally supportive of my campaign, and now I want to be supportive of them,” Trump told Bloomberg Politics. “I look forward to it!” “The bikers love Trump,” Trump touted previously on the campaign trail. “I’m not a huge biker. I have to be honest with you, okay? I always liked the limo better.” The “Ride for Freedom” intends to raise awareness for American Prisoners
