Mind-Boggling Hypocrisy

I wasn't going to post anything about the recent distraction known as Weinergate, but then I stumbled across this from Congressman Anthony Weiner's Congressional website (Set down your beverage before reading on):
Protecting Children On the Internet

In early 2007 my office did a study that found that over 85% of registered sex offenders in New York City live less than five blocks from schools, and 670 sex offenders live within just two blocks. Some offenders are even closer, permanently residing less than 500 feet away from unwitting parents, educators and children.

Along with several colleagues in Congress, we introduced & passed the KIDS (Keeping the Internet Devoid of Sexual Predators) Act of 2007, a bill to require sex offenders to register their e-mail and instant message addresses with the National Sex Offender Registry. The “Kids Act’ implemented one of my six recommendations to keep a closer eye on sex offenders both near school grounds and online. I also proposed stricter GPS tracking of sex offenders, tougher enforcement of registration laws and more public disclosure of sex offender data.

Sadly, the Internet is the predator's venue of choice today. We need to update our strategies and our laws to stop these offenders who are a mere click away from our children....
Yet another for the you-can't-make-this-stuff-up file.

  1. the jury seems to still be out on texts sent to the 17 year old. She reportedly told the police there was nothing inappropriate in his texts.

Mind you, I think he should resign, but let's not completely tar him until all the facts are in.

  3. Heh, I didn't read what Weiner and the others want to do to "protect" children from predators, but I'm willing to bet that it will eventually ban anyone who disagrees with the left.

  4. Just like the european left who damned the chambermaid for the rape by dominic straus kahn. Do as i say, not as i do.

If you want to protect your children and your women, don't vote for the left.

  5. If there was nothing inappropriate in the texts to the 17 year old, then it probably just means that the "relationship" had not yet had time to develop to the next level.

One has to ask "Why is a 47 year New York congressman even texting, tweeting or whatever with a 17 year old high school girl in Delaware for?" What could be the reason? I'd bet there are people in his own district that ask legitimate political questions that could not get this kind of personal communication from him. My wife is a teacher and they are strictly warned against befriending students on any of these internet social outlets for a good reason. If kids need something, they communicate it in the classroom or the parents contact the teacher.

Weiner is just stupid or he deluded himself into thinking that because he was a congressman, he was powerful and untouchable. He was pretty arrogant and I could see how this would carry that over onto his internet activities. But he made his own mess - only a fool sends out lewd pictures of themselves on the internet to strangers. That alone indicates to me that he has a screw loose.

Saying that I think he should resign if nothing else to try and heal his family. I noticed that Mrs. Weiner has not exactly rushed to be at his side since this broke out.

  6. There is no such creature as a non-hypocritical Democrat. The species was last seen in the early '60s, and is now thought to be completely extinct.

  7. No one actually believes that Weiner wrote that blurb about protecting children on the Internet, do they? Chances are he has never read or seen it and if you check the web sites of other "progressives" I'm sure you will find almost the exact same statement. It makes good copy for the Rubes

Like I've told Ducky, you can't accuse someone of hypocrisy if they have no standards. Leftists clearly have only situational morals/standards, those situations do not include leftists.

  8. Warren,
Of course Weiner didn't read that item on his Congressional web site.

What's absolutely hilarious to me is that he apparently didn't even read it.

I do find it interesting that none in the mainstream media have mentioned that item of Weiner's Congressional web site.

  9. Weiner maintains that he is guilty of no wrongdoing.

If I recall correctly, that word "wrongdoing" also came up during the Watergate scandal. We all know how Watergate turned out: dominoes falling.

  10. Dave,
For the record, I've never said or implied that Weiner committed a crime.

But there is something disgusting and even immoral about an elected public servant (salary approximately $150,000) spending time sexting, Tweeting personal material, etc., especially the communication with a 17 year old.

Weiner is now off to rehab. Will Weiner's health insurance pay for that rehab? I wouldn't be surprised! So many deliberate and willful actions nowadays are defined as "addictions" and are, therefore, covered by health insurance plans. I find this maddening as Mr. AOW can not longer get insurance-covered post-stroke therapy, which he definitely needs and would benefit from.

  11. Bunkerville,
Weiner outwardly exhibits no shame and will admit to no wrongdoing.

If he feels no shame, any rehab will not succeed. An integral part of any 12 step program is repentance, which in and of itself requires a sense of shame and wrongdoing.

  12. Dave the 17 year old tol him that She Loves Him.

Something "inappropriate" HAD to lead up to that.
A 46-year-old congressman doesn't have SEVERAL (how many several was, who knows) online conversations with a 17-year-old girl, period. It's just not normal..
    Ya think?

  13. All great comments. There seems to be more than one underage girl, we will have to wait and see what develops. But with Weiner off to sex rehab, I'm betting there is more to come out.

He will be back in a week or two, all "cured" and ready to go back to work.

Women who stay with men like this are enablers.

  14. The whole Wiener/Weiner brouhaha is all about this dude titillating (No pun intended) himself. I believe, had not this "scandal" erupted, he would have continued with the 17 year old until she too received a "photograph" over the internets.

  15. DC politics is powered by hypocrisy and BS. It's a sad commentary on our society that an outed pervert could hold on to his job as congressman. A majority of dimbulbs in his district still say he should be reelected.

  16. Also, I've just got to say that for a party who is supposedly all about equality and minority and women's rights, the leftist 'male' never hesitates to abuse women.

I notice the our favorite misogynist is curiously absent...

  17. I can't believe the MORON gave his real name on the internet!

  18. One thing is for sure, far more 16 and 17 year olds are getting smarter about handling themselves on the internet than Wiener was. Interesting headline this morning, Mr. Weiner STILL has not come home to "stand by her man." That does not bode well for him.....

I'm not a shrink but I have managed employees and interacted with large numbers of the public for so long, I've gotten fairly good at reading body language, voice tone and facial expressions. Sadly, what I am still hearing and seeing from this guy is defiance, not repentance. The only remorse I am detecting is that he got caught. Just my observation/opinion.

  19. Maybe Weiner will resign now:

Rep. Anthony Weiner took numerous photos of himself — clothed and partially nude — at the House Members Gym and sent them to at least one woman … raising questions about whether he used Congressional resources in his online exploits.

TMZ obtained the pics Weiner took of himself using his Blackberry and a mirror. Congressional sources have confirmed with TMZ … the backdrop is indeed the House Members Gym in the basement of the Rayburn House Office Building....

Just wondering....His Blackberry or one bought via some kind of taxpayer-funded program?

  20. You don't go into behavior this deep, this long without crossing the lines and using government resources in some manner or other. It's just a matter of government investigators/auditors digging around and checking. I still don't hear anyone on the Hill calling for a real investigation in this area.

Heard an interesting take today: If Weiner had exposed himself to strange women in some other venue than the internet, he would be sitting in jail now. Also, this isn't about sex as much as it about power - he was forcing himself on women via photographs and reveling in the feeling that he could get away with it. Something like the sense of power a rapist feels.

He is being defiant to the end. Of course, he knows nothing BUT being a career politician. That tells me that his "rehab" really isn't that sincere. He's just trying to get the heat off and save his career some how, some way.

I've seen so many of these cases where the wife stands by the philanderer with a deer in the headlights look (except Hillary, who did not react the way a normal wife would)Then the philanderer goes on about how his wife's love is getting him through this tough time, etc. etc. while the media fawns about how "supportive" and "forgiving" she is.

I STILL find it interesting that Mrs. Huma Weiner has remained in the Emirates on the job this whole time. Again, that doesn't bode well for Weiner.

  21. Maybe he should have passed a law protecting adult women from perverts?

I think the whole discussion of whether he knew the girl was 17 or not or if he was sexting her is a little distracting. He was sending unsolicited sexting messages to other women.

    He's a dirtbag, sexting a 17 year old just means he's a pedophile too.

    Excellent points.

And how effective is rehab in such cases? Not very successful much of the time.

  23. AOW, you're right. Anything from the left is 'an addiction'...nobody can be shown to be IMMORAL, WRONG, CRUEL.
Mind boggling hypocrisy also is when the same leftist media which hates the Patriot Act supports digging through private emails and the trash of Palin. amazing.

  24. Hmmmm.....Anthony Weiner has been so busy sexting that he hasn't registered his SUV.

  25. Warren nailed it....the left has no standards oh they talk a big game about protecting children, women from predatory bosses, and so on. Republicans have such things as well but notice the difference the guy in New York resigned, Sanford in Sc was disgraced and immediately off the short list for a run to the WH, and then there was that other guy with the wide stance in some Airport bathroom resigned....Democrats on the hand are held up consider the Kennedy Compound of debauchery, Clinton, and this guy from France who assautled a maid....Warren is right you can not be a hypocrit if you are a Democrat/leftist because you have to have standards to be a hypocrit.

  26. this just in...you can now get the Anthony Wiener action figure...

I guess there is no chance this Democrat will do the honorable thing and step down...oh wait I forgot about Bill Clinton, John Edwards, Ted Kennedy....what was the name of that guy that his girlfriend ended up dead Shandra Levy???? There are so many on the Democrat side it is hard to keep up....Elliot Spitzer

  27. Blogginator,
Just a short while ago, the news announced that Weiner is stepping down. In my view, he was forced out by the DNC as part of the Dems' damage control.

And Obama comes out smelling like a rose as he has advocated Weiner's stepping down.
