The "Tammarrow" Tweet

(For politics, please scroll down)

From WKYC  (dated January 17, 2017):
A Maryland public school district has fired one of its employees a week after one of her tweets for the district went viral.

On Jan. 5, in response to a tweet from a student directed at the Frederick County Public Schools Twitter account asking for schools to close "tammarow," Katie Nash, who was in charge of running the @FCPSMaryland feed, tweeted back: "But then how would you learn how to spell ‘tomorrow?’ :)" It was retweeted and liked more than 1,000 times each, and Nash even got her own hashtag, #KatiefromFCPS....
Read the rest HERE.

My view: Twitter is a public forum. If someone can't stand the ensuing heat there after posting a Tweet that contains an error, that someone shouldn't be Tweeting.

  1. This is the predictable end result when we allow government schools to initiate actions outside of school property and outside the scope of the school system. This time, it was a school employee....usually it's been a student, punished by the school system for non-school related activities.

Yes, spell check should have prevented the error in the first place.

  6. I remember when Barbara Boxer stood before the Senate with a large poster trying to make a point; there were two misspellings.....
Watch the Dems blast Betsy DeVos today; think it's because she doesn't want our children to do better? Or is it because she's giving kids back to their parents to make decisions for themselves.

They fired this employee? How about firing teachers who keep passing kids on who can't read at 10 years old?

  7. The secret to combatting ADD

Lies in taking one thing you think great

Into splendid isolation where no sounds

Or sights assault the senses with distractions.

Concentrate on learning to ignore

Stray thoughts and wayward influences crude.

Self-discipline becomes its own reward.

Examine only one thing at a time

Pop Culture we must come to recognize

As the enemy of Reason and good work.

Learn to cherish silence so you can

Listen to your heart and see within.

    Monasticism may seem too austere,

But retreating from the world pays dividends.

It deepens your perceptions as it hones

Improvement in your character and views,

And aids in helping you learn to eschew

The tawdriness that saps your strength, and then

    Impoverishes every part of you.

  8. ___________ DIAGNOSIS ___________

Stopping Racism today is now believed
No harm, but only good could ever do ––
Of Paramount Importance. –– We’ve deceived
    Innumerable millions, brought them to

The point where kicking over all the traces
    A counterfeit Altruism now prevails:
Zig zags must be viewed as straight, so races
Ill-informed may proudly fill their sails ––

Reject all hope of Mental Elevation ––
Enjoy, instead, White Perquisites unearned ––
Given –– by “The Rich,” whose education,
Goading them to see all Privilege spurned,

Informed them they should not be what they are.
Now, Prehistoric Depths loom not so far.

    1. Well, I'm sure that many do not feel that way. Some of that reaction depends on how they fared during the Obama years, some will be racist-based.

Frankly, at this point, it seems that more people want to dance on Trump's grave than on Obama's grave. We can only hope that the security precautions for January 19-21 will be enough to protect Trump, Pence, and their supporters.

And, now, back to the topic of this blog post: weird trends in American education.

    2. I thought I had commented quite adequately on that subject, and have done so many times for many years.

Camille Paglia is now on record (at Drudge) saying our universities are in terrible shape –– absolutely wretched –– a disgrace –– or words to that effect. [She may be an oddball, and hard to pin down, but she has genuine integrity. I've always liked her.]

But we've KNOWN all this for DECADES. I know YOU have been doing what you can do combat the trend of deteriorating values in education, but the majority seen perfectly content to go along with the gag, as it were. Paths of least resistance and all that. PHEW!

I got out of teaching a great many years ago for reasons we've discussed privately. Frankly, it's become too dangerous thanks to social activists always eager to stir up trouble on the slightest pretext wherever they can. and of course –– like you –– I could never subject myself to orders from "on high" to water down the curriculum to cater to the whims of spoiled brats, and pushy parents, –– or to boost minorities' self esteem, etc.

    3. FT,
Yes, I am holding the line on standards.

Over the past 40 years, I had to exit the public schools system and one private school because I was ordered to violate the standards. So, here I am, in a low-paying niche market: classes of homeschoolers.

    4. I'm afraid that public schools are little more than baby sitting facilities for the "lower classes" and cash cows for "educators".

In my experience, following principle seldom pays monetarily but (hopefully) makes up the difference in self-esteem.

    5. Warren,
      Amazing, huh?

When I was in elementary school, we went to school on Inauguration Day, and the teacher rolled in a TV (antennas back then) so that we could watch at least the swearing in and the new President's speech.

The first swearing in that I I recall watching on that grainy b&W TV was that of JFK's, but I'm sure that we watched that of Eisenhower's when I was in kindergarten -- or maybe in 1st grade.

I wonder...Did the Explorer Elementary School make sure that students watched the swearing in of BHO?

We took our Grandkids out of the stupid liberal public schools a couple years ago because of the ignorance there teaching our kids today.

  11. _ We All Should Wish Them Well _

For all the quips and jibes and taunts
    And brutal castigation
    Our First Family's image haunts,
    And begs new valuation.

    Both elegant and wholesome
    This group radiates great charm
    We should feel proud
___ they reached a goal some
    Tell us did no harm.

    Their image, lean and lissome,
Does great credit to their race.
To know them might be bliss. Some
Might wish to kiss each face.

    The father’s been a failure
    Many say with unchecked bile.
Rated as the Holy Grail your
    Welfare class adored his style.

    Conservatives despised him
    And insisted he must fail,
While the the Left who idolized him,
Thinks the Right belongs in jail.

    And so we’re now divided
    Many saying we’re at war
    With those we have derided
    Thus forgetting what Life’s for.

    Although his leftist stance
    Has been essentially perverse
We should not want to dance
Upon his grave. That make things worse

    By deepening the chasm
    That now between us yawns
    We kill enthusiasm
    Thus darkening all our dawns.

    So please try to remember
    Barrack with charity;
    His legacy’s an ember
Now. Let’s pray Trump sets us free.
