  1. I'm sorry, but I couldn't find a way to look at the pictures in your link. It was all great and murky on a black background with no "See More" arrow to guide us.

Deserts have never attracted me very much. I am almost certain the disagreeable, aggressive, hyper-defensive, violence-prone nature of today's Arabs and other Desert Tribes both ancient and modern MUST have stemmed form the harshness of the environment in which they found themselves tens of thousands of years ago.

I'm afraid Civilization has made me an avowed, unapologetic sybarite. };^)>

I greatly admire the courage of the early explorers, the early English and European settlers of North America, the Revolutionaries, the Pioneers who single-handedly braved the wilderness to settle the American West, and the Christian the missionaries, who risked their lives to spread the Gospel in Darkest Africa, Asia, and other far-flung regions. HOWEVER, I doubt very much if I would have been one of them, given the choice.

  3. Oh yea, the Arizona/Utah area is fantastic for scenery, and very often for stargazing without the light pollution most other areas have. I can't wait to get back there.

    1. We have a Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain 8 inch we bought about 20 years ago. I'm thinking of picking up one of the newer larger models with the software that let's you just punch in what you want to see and voila, it goes there.

You can't see anything here in Ohio, especially at our home that has heavy tree cover and only offers a small section of sky. But we have picked up Jupiter, Saturn, the Orion Nebula. It's not much fun unless you can see the Milky Way though.

  5. Isaiah 41:18

“I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.”

Psalms 107:35 - He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings.

Isaiah 35:6-7 - Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert. And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of dragons, where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

Psalms 78:15-16 - He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths. He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.

Psalms 105:41 - He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river.

Isaiah 12:3 - Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.

Isaiah 43:19-20 - Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. The beast of the field shall honour me, the dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen.

Isaiah 48:21 - And they thirsted not when he led them through the deserts: he caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them: he clave the rock also, and the waters gushed out.

Isaiah 58:11 - And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

Joel 3:18 - And it shall come to pass in that day, that the mountains shall drop down new wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the rivers of Judah shall flow with waters, and a fountain shall come forth of the house of the LORD, and shall water the valley of Shittim.

Zechariah 14:8 - And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.

Revelation 7:17 - For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

Revelation 22:1 - And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
