NOTICE TO COMMENTERS: DURING THIS PRE-ELECTION SEASON OF SCREECHING AND PERSONAL DIATRIBES, COMMENT MODERATION WILL BE INTERMITTENTLY IN EFFECT AT THIS BLOG. APOLOGIES TO THOSE COMMENTERS WHO ARE NOT IN THE ABOVE CATEOGIES.
I despise comment moderation and rarely utilize it. But I will not spend much of my time deleting what amounts to drive-by spam -- and personal insults directed at me. I have other matters to which to attend.
You can always just remove something you don't like. Comment moderation is usually just for people who simply do not want to engage, which makes you wonder why they blog at all...
JMJ, Do you have any idea of the grueling schedule that I keep -- particularly during certain school cycles when my classes and I are all consumed with meeting the deadlines imposed upon us by national writing contests. Not to mention caregiving and my own health issues.
You are the first person ever to accuse me -- albeit obliquely -- of not wanting to engage.
JMJ: Comment Moderation is for when people are taking advantage of the situation and spewing vulgar or ridiculous comments.
Comment moderation is usually just for people who are totally engaged, which sadly encourages the crazies to come out from under their rocks and require moderation to control them. Great idea when one side wants to shut the other down.....it slows the commenting down and takes the gas out of a site, usually. It's not invigorating to a blog to have to wait for the blogger to moderate and publish. Sad.
Z, It's not invigorating to a blog to have to wait for the blogger to moderate and publish.
Exactly!
But I got slammed with comment after comment of drive-by spam this morning before I needed to leave for work. Therefore, comment moderation was enabled.
AOW, you never have to explain to ME why you do it! I'm on your side. I used to have to go on moderation when I wasn't yet on WordPress, too. Believe me, I know. I just hate that slows our blogs down...perhaps that's the point of the mostly leftwingers who raise havoc on conservative blogs...
I think moderation is entirely appropriate for certain sites that attract SPAM, obscenities or the needy drive-by rants of those who should have stuck to chain letters. On the other hand, I've seen comment moderation be arbitrary and in the sole pursuit of self perpetuating echo chambers.
We welcome civil dialogue at Always on Watch. Comments that include any of the following are subject to deletion: 1. Any use of profanity or abusive language 2. Off topic comments and spam 3. Use of personal invective
Note: Only a member of this blog may post a comment.
No apologies necessary. It's gonna get loud and boisterous here in Blogistan.
ReplyDeletethat we have to stoop to this is sad, isn't it. Understandable, but so sad.

ReplyDeleteHow about personal insults directed at others, like certain quacking, feathered leftwingers who really deserve to be blasted? ;-)
SF,
DeleteDuck can handle most of those insults. However, I have indeed recently deleted a few comments directed at him.
Blast away Silverfiddle, I can more than give what I get but the "blasting" from the sock puppet gang is often just so vulgar.
