  4. I had honestly hoped it would be more civil.

I fear that this is a topic where people aren't going to budge.

    1. Duck,
IQ was stunned that you have not read the Quran. I admit that I was surprised as well.

As I said on the air, discussion of theology requires the reading of the book that present theological doctrines and practices.

Take this out of the realm of theology for a moment. How many times have we learned that murderers were perceived as nice people -- right up to the moment of the murders perpetrated. My point is this: people can be very nice and still commit vile deeds; in the same way, any given culture can have achievements in the arts and, at the same time, still have serious flaws that prevent coexistence with other cultures.

  5. What do you keep having Ducky on the show, he's a complete IDIOT who doesn't know his bible or even better comes on to talk about Muslims and admits he doesn't know anything about them or the Koran. Ducky needs to read Genesis 6 and he will understand why the Jews were to told kill the inhabitants of the land as they were corrupted giants.

IQ's admissions was for a specific period of time -- and for specific tribes.

  7. The OT is pre- Christian...

Isn't the Koran post-Christian? I wonder why IT didn't lose the killing part? Any idea why, duck?

      Good questions.

  8. Because everyone from the Assyrians to the Israelites to the Meccans have been looking for street cred in the Middle East.

"It's time to admit that the idea of a chosen people is just something that primitive tribes used to give themselves a leg up in he days when the snake could talk."
    -- Joseph Campbell

  9. Paul was looking for "street cred" in the NT? Was it the part in the sermon on the Mount about the "meek" inheriting the earth?

    ReplyDelete
  10. those "meeks" must be the ultimate ME "bad-asses"!

  11. Paul and the early Christians formed the faith with a great deal of influence from Greco-Roman culture which is why the Catholic church diverged so far from the Abrahamic religions.

    1. Duck,
Paul and the early Christians formed the faith with a great deal of influence from Greco-Roman culture...

Only to a certain point. Certain aspects of Greco-Roman culture were repudiated.

As for their forming the faith, all of that material was justified via the words of Jesus and prophecies from the Old Testament. At the same time, the legalisms of the OT (dietary laws, for example, but not only dietary laws) were shown by Paul and other early Christians to be representative of the law as the mirror by which to see one's own personal need for redemption and salvation -- Jesus being the Savior who paid the price for Believers' sins, of course.

  12. Ducky, I must say that few people have a less complete religious education than you do, which given your background does not surprise me in the least. In spite of all your hot air, your bluster, you really have no idea what you are talking about. What you are really good at, however, is mouthing platitudes. Street cred—what an amazing analysis!

You dare cite a mythologist to make your point? My God, you are laughable.

Campbell is wrong. The notion of a chosen people is not at all primitive. It is not primitive because God’s word is the living word. A people are chosen when they accept Jesus Christ as Lord: “Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going; how do we know the way?” Jesus said unto him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.”

And rest assured, Ducky, when Jesus said that NO ONE comes to the father except through Him, that is exactly what he meant. And those who chose Jesus over darkness are the chosen people.

No … don’t lash out. It’s your soul, after all.

  13. Richard Dawkins: “There are no Christians, as far as I know, blowing up buildings. I am not aware of any Christian suicide bombers. I am not aware of any major Christian denomination that believes the penalty for apostasy is death. I have mixed feelings about the decline of Christianity, in so far as Christianity might be a bulwark against something worse.”

  14. Duck,
FYI...I had to leave the discussion while you and WC were still conversing. The show had ceased taping at that point.

  15. AOW, something that has stuck with me.

If I interpret IQ correctly, any Muslim who is not intent on dominating Western culture by force is not a "true" Muslim.

Pretty bleak. Just a recipe for continuous police build up, surveillance and misdirection as far as I can see. Just bleak indeed.

  16. Someone should remind Richard Dawkins of the paramount role terrorism played in the founding of Israel.

... or the role of bombings by white southerners during the civil rights movement.

    It's hardly an Arab invention.

  17. Bombings?

okay... there was Birmingham... one bombing...

The weatherman set off more bombs than the klan!

  18. We can dwell on past wrongs until the cows come home. But what is happening today -- that is, within the last 5 years?

Islamic terrorism has changed all of our lives in several ways and still remains a threat.

  19. Just did. Seems dynamite was used in "Bombingham" to blow up a bunch of empty houses or buildings... in only one or two cases causing injuries.

Now the Weathermen bombings, on the other hand killed and injured more people.
