Diversify The Neighborhoods?

Readers of this blog have likely heard something about Obama's proposed solution for what he views as yet another of America's failings: the lack of racial integration in certain neighborhoods.

Obama plans to accomplish this forced diversification via executive order, of course, accompanied by the withholding of federal funds from localities which refuse to comply.

Excerpt from The Hill's article Obama making bid to diversify wealthy neighborhoods:
The Obama administration is moving forward with regulations designed to help diversify America’s wealthier neighborhoods, drawing fire from critics who decry the proposal as executive overreach in search of an “unrealistic utopia.”

A final Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) rule due out this month is aimed at ending decades of deep-rooted segregation around the country.

The regulations would use grant money as an incentive for communities to build affordable housing in more affluent areas while also taking steps to upgrade poorer areas with better schools, parks, libraries, grocery stores and transportation routes as part of a gentrification of those communities.

“HUD is working with communities across the country to fulfill the promise of equal opportunity for all,” a HUD spokeswoman said. “The proposed policy seeks to break down barriers to access to opportunity in communities supported by HUD funds.”...

  1. Oh Goody! I have always wanted to live in Preston Hollow near George and Laura. If BigGov will put up an apartment overlooking his property, I can wave at George W. every morning from my kitchen window!

I do propose that the first affordable housing project be constructed adjacent to the Obama post-presidency residence.

      What a great idea!

Can we transplant some Baltimore residents to that location?

  2. I repeat my comment, posted on the previous thread.

"Obama making bid to diversify wealthy neighborhoods"

DETROIT, coming soon to a neighborhood near you! This may well be the most whackadoodle idea since the "Great Society". Notwithstanding the obvious absurdity of this; where does a nation awash in irreconcilable debt, plan to obtain the "grant money"? It should be obvious, to the most casual observer, that B.O has., once and for all, POPPED HIS CORK!

    1. Exactly, JB....Everybody wants to live in DETROIT, right? :-)

  3. This might be racist, as it might involve bringing "affirmative action" style quotas and preferences to housing.

Which is all about denying opportunity for people who have the wrong skin color, and sharply tilting the playing field.

JonBerg: Yes, Detroit. A product of years of Democratic Party policies, and Big Labor's war on American jobs.

  4. "withholding of federal funds from localities which refuse to comply."

And here I've always thought that BLACK MAIL is illegal-guess not. Sure families are better off when they [earn] the where-with-all to move into better neighborhoods. What does this nonsense have to do with [earning] anything?

  5. I heartily endorse this endeavor, only they need to go even further, plopping the poor and dysfunctional in uber rich areas like Topanga Canyon, Marin County, Nob Hill in Boston, etc.

Let Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerturd come home to noisy neighbors peddling drugs, booming out rap music and drinking 40's on the front porch.

These bazillionaires want to pretend they're down with the folks (haha)... then put them to the test. Slapping the progressive rich in the face with the consequences of their BS would be a good thing, and maybe even change their voting and campaign contribution habits.

  6. “This rule is not about forcing anyone to live anywhere they don’t want to, [but] practices that prevent people from living where they want to.” Gee, I'd like a nice 7-acre spread in La Jolla. Thing ya can swing that, babe?

Change location, but take the same character and attitudes with you. Or are they only planning this for 2-parent (M/F, must we now say that), low conflict households?

    1. I had to laugh at the federal funds being withdrawn from areas that don't want to do this; Think La Jolla or Palo Alto or Beverly Hills (the places Obama apparently needs diversification the most) need federal funding? :-)

    2. Z,
Great point about locales such as La Jolla, Palo Alto, and Beverly Hills!

Certain neighborhoods will be as secure as castles. But the rest of us -- the vast majority of Americans? Nope.

And that's a recipe for disaster.

Which is entirely untrue, as it doesn't identify any such practices. Someone on another blog referred to some sort of "covert" discrimination being a good reason. Which comes pretty close to saying "imaginary" discrimination.

If there are certain illegal practices that result in this "prevention", then enforce the law. If there is nothing illegal, then the federal government has no business doing anything.

That's about it. This idea might appeal to the greedy and lazy who want to steal from others.

No,I'd rather imagine that the targeted areas are those with two income families up against high mortgages.

Now, what happens when property values plummet in these currently "affluent" areas and the residents that actually [earned] their right to be there find themselves 'under water' with little or no incentive to stay?

What you describe in your question may be Obama's goal. Equalization -- straight into below mediocrity.

Yeah, you have to hand it to Detroit; there's not much income inequality left there!

    3. JP: They're already predicting those who worked hard for those beautiful expensive homes will see a drop in value.

This is good for NO ONE. These are people screeching that minority kids need better schooling but won't go for school vouchers.

This is almost as bad as Busing...which didn't work AT ALL....the black kids sat "There" and the white kids sat "over THERE"....

It failed; this will fail but will be a more expensive, hideous failure.

Obama is doing everything possible to keep one of his campaign promises: fundamentally transforming America.

If elected, Hillary will continue furthering Obama's goals in that regard.

    5. I agree, AOW. And to think liberals probably thought transforming America was a good thing; so far, not so good. Unless you were hoping you could get a free cellphone, then, HURRAH.
AOW, I never thought this country could go down hill quite this fast...EVER.

  9. Once again, moves like this show the wisdom of Hillsdale College in refusing federal funds. You'll recall that in the 70's the feds tried to impose racial counting (on Hillsdale - the FIRST college in America that by its charter admitted students without regard to race!!) on the flimsy rubric that some of their students received federal loans. When Hillsdale lost in court, they refused to have any students who received ANY federal monies (they even make up for 'lost' veterans education benefits, btw). The college's Trustees said this was to “resist, by all legal means, any encroachments on its independence.”

A good lesson for us all. All cities apply for tons of state and federal 'grants.' I'd be surprised if there isn't one somewhere on Beverly Hills' books. Or even that someone in the feds may have 'enticed' some of these cities into a fiscal tie just to hammer them with this new BS. They think that way, we know.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I remember that, Bay. Race matters only to racists. No college should ever engage in race counting.

  12. This is called importing criminals into your neighborhood. They keep trying this and it never works. People don't become different people just because they live in a nicer neighborhood for 6 months or so (until they destroy it and push the others out who can afford to move) I've talked to enough people who have had this happen to them,. Here's one example of millions.

duck's ex and his kid move in next to you. The kid keys your car. You call the cops. The cop says we can't do anything meaningful to the kid because he's a juvenile and the woman can't make restitution because she doesn't have any money. In frustration you move your vandalized belongings elsewhere. Rinse Repeat.

  13. A comment to probably all of you here above this comment. W e keep talking the same stuff on all of our blogs right? Because it's a big problem and it's pretty easy to figure out. Why can't anyone else figure it out.

  15. Perceptions regarding wealth v poverty can be cultural. I grew up in a culture where at the micro-level of society (the villages) if one family got ahead, the neighbors resented the upward mobility - imagining that something had been taken from them in the process.

I think that in an age of social media, this type of accusation will continue to scale up the societal walls of decency.

    This comes to mind:

    http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/zoo-employee-fired-complaints-rude-ass-white-people-article-1.2253208

Did "rude ass white people" really steal food items, throw food items at her, disrespect her" on a regular basis? I greatly doubt it.

If you are 22 and making $8.55 an hour is it because you do not have a skill set? What is your desirable skill set? Each man should be paid his worth.

It took me five years to get my degree. I had to take a year off to work. My junior year of school I lived in a shed behind a home which had a cot and a lightbulb hanging from the ceiling. That was my home because I had no funds for living expenses.

I would hate to think that anyone would resent my modest success in life. And I would hate to think that any individual judged me, not having walked in my shoes.

The POTUS is a Marxist Utopian. I suppose he has never read the story of Dr. George Washington Carver. Born a slave, he thought like a free man. Alone, and with great spirit, his character carried him far in life. He was not the stuff of senseless food cart vendors.

We have two sons. I prayed for a third son. I wanted to name him Jacob Carver Swofford, in honor of a brilliant American.
