My Redeemer Lives!

For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:

And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God.

(Job 19:25-26)

  1. Good morning, and HAPPY EASTER! to all, whether you believe in the miracle of our Lord's Resurrection or not.

Johann Sebastian Bach understood the significance of Jesus Christ very probably better than anyone else who has ever lived. What The St. Matthew Passion brought to the expression of guilt, empathy, compassion and deepest grief, the Mass in B-Minor brings to the resurgence of joy and energy filled with a quivering eagerness to embrace Life wholeheartedly with boundless optimism. LISTEN!

J.S. BACH: Mass in B-Minor - ET RESURREXIT

    "...And He rose again on the third day, according to the scriptures;
And He ascended into heaven where He sits at the Father's right hand.
And He will one day return in glory to judge the living and the dead.
And His kingdom will have no end."

  3. FT,
Such beautiful music in those links! I hope that others who stop by here will take the time to listen.

Easter morning here has dawned with glorious sunshine and the choruses of birds. And so many flowers are in bloom! Almost all the trees are dressed in that beautiful pale shade of green that we see early in the spring.

Mr. AOW and I may go out for a drive today. We're not much on Sunday drives when we don't have the convertible (In the shop, again!), but everything around us is so lovely right now.

I may be off the grid for most of the day.

  4. Have a great Easter day you both!
Sadly this year Spring is not as beautifull as usual here.
The cold temp just keep everything on a low burner.

  6. _________ Crucifixion _________

He was a man who came to show the way.
It never was for him an easy task.
    Sadly, politicians of His day
Cruelly sought His death. They’d never ask
Revealing questions in pursuit of Truth.
Undermining good they sought to hold
    Crookedly to Power. Their uncouth
    Initiatives to godliness were cold.
    Freedom from corruption causes fear
In those who by coercion seek to rule.
Xiphoid, ego kills what should endear,
Instead of letting Self die to renewal.
On tiptoe oft we creep and hold our breath,
Not challenging the ones who cause His death.

    ____________ Resurrection ____________

Cold He lay behind the heavy stone,
Hidden there with broken hands and feet.
Ruthless powers crushed His flesh and bone.
It looked to be the ultimate defeat.
Sadly, in the dawn Saint Mary’s three
Trudged toward the tomb wherein He lay.
Instead of death, an angel helped them see,
Startled, that the stone was rolled away!
A risen Jesus stood! He still drew breath!
Radiance around Him warmed the air.
In banks of lilies sweet we now see death
Stripped of terror. Life, eternal, fair,
Enjoins us all to claim His victory.
Naught could stop us save our vanity.

  7. A LIGHTER SIDE OF EASTER

    Sometimes a March Hare

Traipsing through the meadows fields and glens
    Harvey-like, this happiest of hares
Enjoys the fame he owns, It’s linked with hens.
Easter’s oval gems, his brightest wares,
Astonish children with their vivid hues.
    Specimens by jeweler Fabergé.
Those tiny triumphs of elitist views,
Enchant adults, but no real warmth convey.
Richer is the creature with long ears,
Belov’d by little children far and wide.
Unseen, some say unreal, his presence cheers
Nonetheless. His charm can’t be denied.
Nourishing the need for joy and wonder
Yields confidence unshaken e’en by thunder.

  8. AOW, hope you and the Mr. had a beautiful Easter Day with family and friends. There is no more meaningful celebration than that of the Resurrection. Blessings to you both as we await the next Resurrection Day.

  9. Maggie,
Because of Mr. AOW's disabilities, we don't get many invitations out, so we spent a quiet day at home.

    I'm not complaining!

It was a peaceful day at home, and we got several phone calls wishing us "Happy Easter!" I got to talk at length with my younger cousin, who is usually so pressed for time that we don't have even a minute to chat.

  10. FT,
I particularly like the poem "Resurrection." I see the acrostic there: "Christ Is Arisen."

    Your work, right?

I am looking forward to having my middle schoolers write acrostic poems in a few weeks. Some students will have difficulty creating rhyme that isn't forced, so I will allow them to use free verse.

  11. Sounds like your Easter was a good day... nothing wrong with some quiet time to reflect and recharge with your family.

  12. "Your work, right?"

Yes, indeed! Guilty as charged, Ma'am. If I quote someone else, I always sign THEIR name to it. Naturally, I use FreeThinke here.

Those three Easter sonnets were written back when I functioned as a Deadline Poet. Acrostic sonnets were my trademark.

I'll be interested to see what your students make of the formula.

Glad you had a pleasant, relaxing day yesterday. Time at home can be very rewarding -- especially if you're fortunate enough to have a home.
