Slut Dressing

(If you must have politics, please scroll down)

I'm surprised that Judge Judy didn't find these young people in contempt of court (hat tip to Karen):

These young people are an embarrassment to their parents.

Or did their parents not teach their children about appropriateness of dress according to the occasion?

My mother used to tell me: "Why are you wearing that skimpy outfit to [wherever]? Would you wear a fur coat to the beach? No? Then, don't wear that outfit to [wherever]."

At least the young people in the above video are not sporting bizarre tattoos and hedonistic piercings. I see such things on many of the girls and women at the local swimming pool — and even on middle-aged women who are teachers and lawyers in an area that is certainly in the upper-middle-class range, if not higher.

As long as I'm on the topic of dress appropriate to the occasion, why do the blonde bimbos on Fox News participate in slut dressing? Have you seen some of those outfits worn by the female anchors on Fox and Friends? These women often don't have a clue as to what constitutes day wear and what constitutes cocktail-party wear.

Gretchen Carlson (pictured left) is not an isolated case, either. I see the same kind of provocative dress and body language on the local news as well — on Fox, NBC, ABC, and CBS affiliates. In my view, dressing in such a manner trivializes the news.

The problem of slut dressing isn't limited to television, either. Recently, classical pianist Yuja Wang [video of Ms. Wang playing the piano] has been cited for the problem. According to Mark Swed of the Los Angeles Times:
“Her dress Tuesday was so short and tight,” he wrote, “that had there been any less of it, the [Hollywood] Bowl might have been forced to restrict admission to any music lover under 18 not accompanied by an adult. Had her heels been any higher, walking, to say nothing of her sensitive pedaling, would have been unfeasible.”
Apparently, even the usually dignified world of classical music is not immune from bizarre outfits.

No wonder our young people today have so little clue as to what constitutes appropriate dress for the occasion! They look around and see little respect for tradition in our society today.

  1. Sex sells. I remember when Jewell tried going all sexy, totally against the cute young songwriter/singer persona that made her famous.

    Now it's the Ladies PGA...

Yes, sex sells, but as most of us know, flooding the market with something ultimately devalues the product.

I wonder if the explosion of so-called porn addiction is related to this?

  2. I remember flying on a planes with my parents when I was young. The dress for the occasion was a suit and tie.

  3. The mandatory Sunday drive always required our Sunday best! Oh how we complained, but didn't we feel better about ourselves as we got older?

  4. They have no respect for themselves!

  5. I had to laugh at the YouTube title on the video about "Christians"....they never miss a chance to slam, do they.

Talk about that (good segueway!)...I saw five minutes of TODAY this morning and they were talking about the Norwegian shooter; though they did mention how it took an HOUR to get anybody there to stop the shooting, they never even conjectured that maybe one counselor having a gun might have worked...but they DID mention that the shooter killed "because he hated Muslims and for his RELIGIOUS REASONS" Apparently, the truth that he calls himself 'not religious' confounds the NBC folks and they're going to make their inferences whether the truth fits or not! :-)

  6. This reminds me of an incident that happened in Houston a few years ago. This girl was denied entry into her prom because of her so-called "dress". Have a look:

  7. I agree with conservativesonfire "They have no respect for themselves!"

The last time I was called upon for Jury Duty (I am popular with this service?)once we were all picked we were sent to the deliberation room for picking the Foreman and await further instructions.

At this time I needed to relieve myself and upon return the seat at the head of the table was the only open left open and I was informed that in my absence they had picked me as their foreman.

I said "You have got to be kidding me, why?"

Answer; I was the only one wearing a suit and tie.

The others ranged in age from 20 to 78 and looked like they were all headed to the beach or a picnic.

I have been to weddings and funerals as well where this total lack of respect is also on display and am truly dismayed about it.

  8. Wrial,
Thank you for posting a link to that video. How could parents allow their daughter to dress in such a manner -- like a whore? Except if she was wearing such an outfit to the beach.

  9. Silverfiddle,
I wonder if the explosion of so-called porn addiction is related to this?

    Maybe.

  10. As to no respect for themselves, I do find it astounding that parents condone their daughters' wearing of such dresses. Some of these outfits are very expensive, and, clearly, the parents paid for the outfits.

Of course, what I just said likely doesn't apply to the Chinese classical pianist that I cited in the post.

  11. Christopher,
    At funerals too? I'm disgusted!

Had I worn such an outfit at my mother's funeral, she'd have sat up in the casket and slapped me square across the face!

  12. The culture is so far gone you need to watch Jerry Springer for a touch of class.

  13. The women on FOX are tacky. I can't stand it, and I seriously doubt their audience likes it. You are right, it trivializes the news.
I hate the dumbing down of classical music too, whether it's wearing skimpy dresses or SF Symphony playing Metallica.

  14. Yes, the dressing of teens today is horrendous, the hardness to find DECENT clothes is ridiculas. Fashonable decent clothes? Uh, sew your own.
The sad thing is that parents allow this wear. My mother would burn my clothing if I wore trash like that, even to the beach, much less to court!

Also, I really wonder if girls ever think how guys react to seeing the skimpy dressing- they really are asking for trouble

  15. Wildstar,
    Thank you for weighing in!

As a high schooler, I know that this issue is one that you have to deal with on a personal level.

I really wonder if girls ever think how guys react to seeing the skimpy dressing

Maybe some of the males who frequent my site will address that issue.

When you go shopping, do you feel that you don't have enough choices presented to you?

  16. Thanks, AOW-- this has become a pet peeve of mine.

Girls see women dressing like pole dancers (or vice versa) and imitate the slut wardrobe.

  17. I think this is a big part of why many Muslims are so resistant freedom, look what we do with it.

  18. Yikes!! But I have to admit you will see some girls dress like that at church and their mom's say nothing. I sure don't want my boys seeing them like that.

Not to mention, yesterday there was a cross-dresser at my church. I didn't see him, but Wolfie did.

  19. Then, when you consider that many of them act like sluts too, it speaks volumes about the cultural rot.

  20. There is dressing nice, fashionable, and then there is taking it too far. I always listened to my mother. In school we had rules about what we could wear, how short it could be, etc. I'm not sure what the rules are for public schools these days.

Our grandson goes to private Christian school and even there I see some extremely short uniform skirts on girls.

As to the adults and those on Fox, I suppose it's all part of the package to get folks watching. But honestly, does anyone watch Fox JUST because someone wears a short skirt or low cut top? I don't really think so.

  21. In her defense, Judge Judy is NOT running a real courtroom. She's running a television set, and THAT is how women dress on television sets.

  22. Speedy G,
Well, such dressing isn't limited to those seekers of 15 minutes of fame on the tube. Classrooms are having a time with "dress code" as well.

  23. She certainly kicked them into the right place.

  24. Out of curiosity I asked a friend of my son what he thought about the way girls and women dress. He stated that he thinks girls are being taught too young how to impress boys and men with their bodies. He blames pop culture and parents not teaching the difference between it and real life.
As a mother I seem to think that there is a real lack of morality period. I also see much older women trying to dress as the younger women and girls do.

  25. Jackie,
girls are being taught too young how to impress boys and men with their bodies

    No doubt!

Peer pressure is also a huge factor for teenagers.

  26. The Fox News Channel Is Not watched here anymore because of the slutty dressed anchors...period!

  27. Anonymous.
Yes, those women on FNC are bimbos -- and dress the part, too.
