Earthquake Punditry

With thanks to Texas Fred, who emailed me the following after yesterday's 5.8 earthquake in Virginia:

White House press release: "Earthquake epicenter was situated at the convergence of Bush’s Fault, Congress’ Fault, Tea Party's Fault, and It's-not-my Fault."

BREAKING NEWS: "Seismologists have confirmed that it WAS an earthquake and NOT the 14.6 trillion dollar check bouncing on the East Coast.

VA QUAKE BREAKING NEWS!!!!!!!! The USGS has determined that the epicenter of the earthquake was in a cemetery just outside of DC. The cause appears to be all of our founding fathers rolling over in their graves.

  1. Just emailed to me by Will:

Breaking from Jay Carney: "We apologize for the disturbance, the president's ego collapsed under the weight of all his bullshit."

  2. I laughed myself simple on this one! Much needed. Jay Carney finally got right.

  3. I posted some of the humorous comments that friends posted on Facebook over at my place.

Our house is situated less than 40 miles from the true epicenter, yet no damage or injuries.

No big deal, really, but the first time I ever experienced an actual earthquake.

I bet Z is laughing at us right now.

  5. My favorite was that the earthquake was the result "of a well known fault line, running right through the middle of DC, called Bush's Fault".

  6. ROFL! Breaking from Jay Carney: "We apologize for the disturbance, the president's ego collapsed under the weight of all his bullshit.

  7. I have lived through a number of Hurricanes but never an earthquake. I blame Bush!

  8. Hurricane Irene arrives here on Saturday or Sunday -- I can't recall which.

    **sigh**

We had an aftershock of 4.5 very early this morning. It didn't awaken me, but I did find a few items had fallen from shelves.

  9. GM,
I prefer the kind of quake we had to a hurricane. Just sayin'.

  10. lol! well needed laugh. The quake didn't hit hard either time over here- honestly I don't get the evacuation of DC.
Favorite quote is easily the first, especially the 'it's-not-my-fault.'

As for the hurricane- ya, that thing better stay in the ocean if it knows whats good for it.

  11. Wildstar,
A hurricane can be a wicked thing! I still remember bits and pieces about Hurricane Hazel even though I was only two-and-a-half years old (on vacation in West Virginia with my parents and my maternal grandmother). A flood on top of a mountain! The fact that I can remember some details about my personal experience during Hurricane Hazel at such a young age testifies as to just how traumatic living through a bad hurricane can be.

Be sure to read that Wikipedia link about Hurricane Hazel. It was the storm of storms!

Hurricane Irene has already been compared to Hurricane Hazel.

DC will never learn to evacuate effectively. You know how it is in this region if one flake of snow falls! Sheesh.

My cousin just phoned me to tell me how jammed the grocery stores already are as people get all wound up about the coming storm. I hope that the gas stations aren't that bad tomorrow. I need to fill up the Crown Vic.

  13. It's all good for a laugh but Obama is already blaming the earthquake in Japan for poor economic news at home. Like any good crisis, I doubt he'll waste the opportunity presented by this earthquake in DC.

I just hope that Hurricane Irene makes a direct hit on Martha's Vineyard so he can really have something to complain about.
