More Mind-Boggling Absurdity

One of my recent Facebook finds:

California isn't the only state with restrictions on the use of plastic straws. Insanity spreads rapidly.

  1. There are legitimate questions about plastics and the use of some chemicals, but unfortunately, the totalitarian left takes a hysterical and alarmist approach to everything, so we cannot have a rational debate about anything.

    1. SF,
I'm worn to the nub with all the screeches of "The sky is falling! The sky is falling!" I hear this screech from all points along the political spectrum. Wearisome.

    3. Then there's my Irish American friend who owns a pub in Santa Monica. Suddenly, he's putting straws in everything...water glasses, Coke glasses....of course, his daughter's name is Reagan. Political...but subtle :-)

What I'd zero in on before straws is plastic shampoo, plastic soap, and plastic water bottles...GAZILLIONS a day are bought and tossed out, yet we might be arresting for straws?

  2. When straws are outlawed only Outlaws will have straws.
You can have my straws when you pull them from my dead cold fingers.

You can have my straws when you pry them from my cold dead fingers!

  4. Yes. My first sky-is-falling experience was Paul Ehrlich and overpopulation. Then it was global cooling right after that.

Several years ago California proposed wif-fi enabled thermostats so the STATE could make emergency adjustments in high power usage times or low fuel times. Problem with ALL these laws is they cannot possibly write in the reasonable exceptions, such as the elderly person with flu who needs their heat 10 degrees higher for a few days. Or there's the woman I met this morning who keeps her thermostat set permanently at 68, Sounds wasteful, right? She has a serious nerve condition that is greatly helped by cold. She was in the air conditioned doctor's office and could hardly wait to get home for that reason.

The left is overpopulated with hysterics. SF is right. It keeps us from having rational debate. Since that's now - by the left's definition - an oppressive feature of 'whiteness' the snowflakes feel good about melting away from rational debate and the victimization inherent to it. Blaaaah!

    1. Baysider,
When I was in college, The Population Bomb was required reading for Biology, a mandated course for most of us students back then. Many male students sought vasectomies. Sheesh.

  5. I never use straws, myself, so it doesn't affect me, personally, but I know from personal experience that invalids find straws that bend an invaluable aid to taking in liquid refreshment.

But i remember when all straws were made of PAPER. Can't remember when plastics came in, but frankly I couldm't care less if they disappeared frm our lives altogether.

  6. It'll get even worse in California if Gaffing Gavin Newsom gets into the Governor's office. That dumb ape sidekick is a loose cannon, and will be even worse than the worst Governor of all 50 states ever: Governor Baldy Moonbeam. You can bet the state will outlaw plastic straws if that dumb ape Newsom gets his way. So far, it's a local ban in the worst liberal moonbat caves like Santa Barbara and Santa Monica. The Dhimmis in Long Beach California want to invade Orange County and spread their moonbattery to my Northwest Orange County hometown. Sadly, my OC city borders the east end of Long Beach, but we're a much safer city than Moonbat Town. The Orange County border cities of Seal Beach, Los Alamitos and Cypress will not cave into the looney policies of Los Angeles County's city of Long Beach. We sip our drinks with plastic straws!
