See Why Trump Is Right about Immigration: An immigration plan that serves the national interest, an essay by Mark Krikorian, the executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, and published in the National Interest on August 2, 2017 (hat tip to Infidel Bloggers Alliance).

A little something that I haven't heard mentioned anywhere else and quite interesting:
...The Reforming American Immigration for a Strong Economy Act (RAISE Act) resumes the effort undertaken by civil rights icon Barbara Jordan’s U.S. Commission on Immigration Reform in the mid-1990s. Two decades ago, the corporate Right allied with the cultural Left to kill Jordan’s recommended immigration changes. But the logic of those changes didn’t go away. And today’s announcement picks up where she left off....

  1. Barbara Jordan would be a republican today. She was way too educated, dispassionately analytical and centrist for today's Maoist Democrats.

    1. Back in the day Barbara Jordan struck me very much the same way Sheila Jackson Lee strikes me today. ALL Democrats are Marxists at heart. They may not admit it –– they may not even KNOW it –– but that's presisely what they are –– and have been ever since FDR's BAD DEAL ushered in the beginning of the Socialist States of Amerika.

Like many of the caliginous competing and completely unrelated causes and tribes of the clamorous, incoherent left, unbridled immigration and affirmative action are working at cross-purposes.

Too many victim-packed clown cars all wanting the right of way at the Progressive Intersection(ality) is bound to end in acrimony, shouting and honking, and more vehement claims of special privilege.

One example of incoherence: When Progressives Embrace Hate, from that rightwing clarion the New York Times!

    The joke starts like this:

So, a Sharia loving Islamist woman, a Fidel worshiping Marxist and a Louis Farrakhan-embracing black panther wannabe walk into a woman's movement...

One consolation in the vale of tears is we will always have the loony left to laugh at.

To a point. But the loony left really hates our guts. They can't wait for us to die off.

    2. AOW, There is hope. For every squawling millennial SJW, there are many more smartasses on Reddit and other forums totally throwing it back in their faces, and laughing their asses off at every PC scold.

Progressives hold a Calvinistic faith in their fantasy version of "progress," but they are going to have one hell of a time getting a majority to go along with them.

    4. Indeed. Those are progressive strongholds, but as we saw in 2016, they couldn't pull the inevitable Democrat across the finish line against a horribly flawed candidate.

We are a divided nation. As Hayek explains in Constitution of Liberty, at some point, the progressives will have to threaten everyone at the point of a gun or give up hope of ever getting everyone to go along.

Go Google "Based Stick Man." For every Orwellian-named "ANTIFA," SJW, and Black Lives Matters Maoists, there are way more laughing, lampooning them, and physically fighting them.

The rabid left gets all the news coverage, but at least half the country is fed up with them.

Another encouraging sign: Many people in their 20's are impervious to the PC control word. They don't give a crap if someone calls them racist or bigoted or whatever.

I know I've been sounding negative over the past year, but its more of looking at trends and where we are going. Progressives know how to soft-pedal their horrible dystopian policies that display a tragic ignorance of human nature; but human nature will out. It always does.

    1. Professor,
I have a student -- a Chinese-American high school senior (Class of 2017) -- who was clearly the victim of anti-Asian bias in the admissions offices of Stanford, CalTech, and Columbia. He was -- and remains -- very angry. His parents took the defeats in stride; they recognize what happened and moved on from there. I heard them tell their son, "Life offers defeats. You have to learn to accept those defeats and move on."

      Good advice.

William & Mary were more than happy to have the above student there. W&M afforded him a three-year program with guaranteed acceptance to Columbia for graduate school. He goes to campus orientation in a few weeks.

  5. Trump is absolutely on target in backing the Cotton- Perdue immigration bill. An immigration policy that we've needed for quite some time now.

Let's hope that he lends his influence for this bill, in the way Obama seemed to have mastered with the Democrats.

There are millions upon millions of "unfortunates" out there. While we may pity them, the fact remains that any country's immigration policy must be designed to meet our national interest.

It's also immensely hubristic –– a clear attempt of Man trying to assume the role of God. The sheer PRESUMPTUOUSNESS and VANITY of sch a notion means that it is doomed to fail.

    2. I'm tempted to say, "Oh GOODY!," and leave it at that, but the Republican's egregious failure to produce a coherent, cohesive, comprehensive policy that would generate a significant IMPROVEMENT over the admittedly deplorable staus quo spoils any sense of victory over the ACA.

The ACA has produced a new DEPENDENT class who now feel it is their RIGHT to be given access to health insurance at rates THEY can afford, –– even if it means the middle class must pay far too dearly for the new found security of the formerly deprived and downtrodden.

As Rush has said repeatedly, "No one can beat Santa Claus at the polls."

Since there are far more poor than rich, and the middle class has been shrinking steadily, the nation may very well suffer collapse if government continues to cast itself in the dual roles of Santa Claus and Robin Hood in order to win elections.

"In general the art of government consists in taking as much money as possible from one class of citizens to give to the other."

      ~ Voltaire (1694-1778)

IS there a solution to the problems these notions generate?

It seems dubious, so I suppose we must continue to battle one another in ceaseless quest for a mythical god called EQUITY.
