The Sword Wielder At The School

Creeping Sharia asks:
Why wasn’t this story big news this week following Sandy Hook? Why no outrcries to ban swords (a popular Islamic icon along with AK-47′s)? Why such a muted reaction from the Islamic school and the sharia-pushers?

Could it be because the perpetrator isn’t an ideal target for CAIR nor big brother media? Could the perp herself be Muslim?

According to the News 6 video she was driving a vehicle registered to the Dept. of Defense at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Odd to say the least.
Video of one news report about the incident, which occurred on December 19, 2012:

  2. What agenda is that? Stop being foolish.

No one was hurt. If the gun loons want to argue that children are more in danger from a sword than a Bushmaster let them argue that and look even more stupid than LaPierre has portrayed them.

  3. There are only so many "big stories". This one wasn't going to displace the gun loon in upstate New York killing fire fighters.

We still don't know where that loon got his guns.

  4. Dearest Waterfowl, Speaking of New York, I love the fact that the newspaper published the list of gun owners. That means the crazies will target the libs homes that are NOT on that list ... OOPS.

  6. Duck,
William Spengler, the man that set the fire in Webster so as to draw in firefighters and shoot them, committed his vile deeds days after the sword wielder attempted her mayhem.

    December 14: Newtown, Connecticut

December 19: sword wielder in Orlando

December 25: Webster, NY More about Spengler HERE.

  8. AOW, just what do you feel is important here?

    Attacks by the mentally ill?
    Attacks on Islamic centers?

    No?

Then maybe you want the press to really push the facts that sword attacks don't often result in casualties.
Apparently some believe that 27 dead in a semi auto weapons attack is equivalent to a mentally ill woman walking into a mosque with a sword.

  10. Duck,
AOW, just what do you feel is important here?

    For starters:

    1. That the attempted attack on the Islamic school was that of someone mentally ill -- as likely was what Adam Lanza did in Newtown.

There is no way to prevent every attack perpetrated by mentally ill individuals -- deadly attacks or otherwise

    2. That the mainstream media didn't report the attack on the Islamic school. Why not? For several days following the horror of Newtown, the mainstream media reported every rumor of any attack on a school, as well as hoax after hoax.

    3. If the woman wielding the sword was a Muslima or was suspected of being a Muslima, could that orientation have been a reason not to report what happened? The media today seem to love to practice self-censorship.

    4. she was driving a vehicle registered to the Dept. of Defense at Fort Jackson, South Carolina

I find it quite strange that the mainstream media didn't have fits that the woman might have been military or might have had connections to the military. After all, the mainstream media never hesitate to broadcast a story far and wide when someone military goes off the deep end.

    5. Somehow, I have no doubt that if a woman had come to that school and had started waving a gun around that the mainstream media would have screeched, "We have yet one more proof that people shouldn't own guns!"

Anyway, Duck, you asked my purpose in posting this particular item. I don't really have one purpose. I'm just wondering why this story didn't get much attention.

    You said:

Straw man! You are not accurately reading my thoughts regarding both incidents.

What irresponsible journalism! If one can even term these newspaper folks journalists, that is.

    --------
Absolutely, so let's see if we can make the attacks gun free, no?

And the comparison was not a straw man. I was referring to "Right Truths" post which is a standard cliche.
The question is not the existence of attacks. Those are going to happen. Can they be made less lethal?

Who has advocated any such thing? Certainly not I!

As far as Debbie's statement goes, she is correct in that those who are maniacs and/or determined to kill will find a way to do so.

Of course, nobody will deny that a firearm can TYPICALLY slay people faster and in greater numbers than knives, bayonets, etc.

The other side of the coin: a gun is an equalizer -- particularly for the weak or less agile who are defending themselves against an attack, particularly an attack by fists or by blade. A firearm also usually prevents an attacker from getting closer to his intended victim.

What just sprang into my mind.... A particular scene from Indiana Jones. I'm sure that you know the scene to which I am referring: a guy showing off with a scimitar or the like and Indiana Jones dispatching him with one shot from a pistol.

I also must say that the vast, vast majority of those who privately own firearms never perpetrate an attack such as Adam Lanza's or any other butcher than you can name. Furthermore, the vast, vast majority of those who privately own firearms never shoot another human being or even threaten to do so.

GAWD, AOW! For no particular reason I was thinking of that very scene the other day, and nearly split my sides laughing -- as I always do. One of THE funniest scenes ever filmed. beats the hell out of Laurel and Hardy, the Marx Brothers or Abbott and Costello, et al.

    Thanks for the replay!

  20. That black gal is clearly an American negro, not some Arab type, and who knows why she went into that mosque. Sounds like she might not know, herself. That military car is interesting, though, either she's in the service or a boyfriend/husband/relative is.

We may never know what was behind her actions, but we can always draw inferences from what the media does not report. Often, the silence reveals more than reading between the lies, if you'll pardon the pun.

So YES, AOW, you have a real point here in questioning the lack of coverage over this.

I've never read of anyone breaking into an American police station and taking hostages and killing people. Somehow those places just aren't as attractive as sources of victims as places like schools. You don't suppose it's because of all the people with guns?

Arming teachers is a poor plan. Sure as hell some teacher somewhere will go postal and shoot the kids, but armed guards at schools is a fine plan. The school near where I lived in Washington has a resident Sheriff's deputy there all day every day and I assume other Washington shools do also. That won't stop someone from bringing a gun and shooting anyone but it would sure help limit the carnage.

For us who survive, Happy New Year, everybody.

  21. My suspicion is she was a Muslim. If she were not the media would have gone apeshit over the story.

As to you trying to educate Duckhead, really? I admire your perseverance but is he truly able to be educated I ask you? ;)

  23. I read the following information in the most recent report about her:

    ORLANDO, Fla. —

The woman accused of carrying a sword into an Orlando mosque has been moved from the jail to a treatment facility, officials said Friday.

Dominque Eloi has missed multiple court appearances because she wouldn't cooperate, authorities said.

Officials said Eloi was also placed on suicide watch while in the Orange County Jail.

Police said Eloi walked into the Islamic Society of Central Florida last week, put up her hooded sweater and raised a sword. She was arrested at the scene.

Her first appearance before a judge has not been rescheduled.

  24. Black Sheep,
That black gal is clearly an American negro, not some Arab type...

Dominique Vianneyte Eloi, the woman with the sword, could be a convert to Islam, however.

She has an Arizona driver's license, BTW.

You said and have an excellent point:

Arming teachers is a poor plan. Sure as hell some teacher somewhere will go postal and shoot the kids

Hordes of teachers are on medications. Really. Now, better living through chemistry in and of itself isn't a bad thing. But I must say that I've known a few teachers that appeared, um, unstable; they would fly off the handle at the least little thing.

In a comments thread at a big newspaper I read something like this: "Anyone who favors arming teachers has never been in a faculty meeting." LOL! But there could be an element of truth in that commenter's quip. I've attended some very heated faculty meetings in the course of my long career as a teacher. Things can turn UGLEEE!

armed guards at schools is a fine plan

I'm not sure that armed guards at every school is a good idea. Such a step likely serves as a deterrent for bratty kids. But for psychos? Somehow, psychos always find a work-around.

  25. Chuck,
Duck and I have been "dueling" since 2005, when I first started a blog. We'll mostly never agree on politics and sociological issues, but Duck and I are able to discuss other topics without any rancor whatsoever.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Well, armed guards are at schools in bad areas- areas with many gangs and the like, and they do a nice job of deterrent. No, crazies will always be around, BUT the less insane will be more hesitant and the crazies can be shot down faster.

On the issue, in some ways I'm a bit surprised and in many I'm not. Swords are not seen anymore as viable weapons (to anyone who has never held one at least). Then again, this is an interesting story, so why in the post-media frenzy do they not report it? If the girl was non-Muslim, attacking a Muslim place, I would think they would love to air the 'poor peaceful muslim' nonsense as per usual. Military, definitely, they hate the military. Tis odd.

  28. Wildstar,
In these days of media frenzy, it is indeed a bit of a surprise that this story wasn't reported on. Unless the woman is a Muslima, the media could have promoted more about peaceful Islam and the victimhood, or near victimhood, of Muslims.

As for the crazies can be shot down faster, that would apply in most cases -- unless, of course, the armed guard were taken out first.

A few short years ago, none of us could ever have imagined that armed guards would be needed at "every school," as has been proposed. BTW, "every school" includes private schools as well.
