The Lunatics Are Running The Asylum

We live in the Age of the Absurd.

If this nonsense appeared in a novel, readers would cry, "Too implausible!"

Spew alert! Set down your beverage before reading on.

From Be Sure You're RIGHT, Then Go Ahead, citing this source:
A bit of news from a California federal court will cause you to shout along with Charlton Heston that “It’s a madhouse! A madhouse!”

The court is going “to decide for the first time in US history whether amusement park animals are protected by the same constitutional rights as humans.”

The issue is the result of a lawsuit that PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) filed in a “San Diego court on behalf of five orcas named Tilikum, Katina, Corky, Kasatka and Ulises. . . . PETA argues that continuing the whales’ ‘employment’ at SeaWorld violates the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution, which prohibits slavery.”
In a moment of lucidity judge ruled against PETA.

This case ever getting to court in the first place is mind boggling.

  2. As a person who, like the late Albert Schweizer of Lambarene, reveres Life, itself, and has enormous empathy with animals I will not rest until every incidence of PREDATION is eradicated from the Face of the Earth.

The animals are WRONG to use each other as a source of nourishment. The entire concept of a Food Chain is a monstrous misunderstanding of the Purpose of Existence.

Far better that all living creatures should voluntarily starve themselves into Extinction than even so much as ONE life should be destroyed merely to save another.

    Nature is obviously a Mistake.

It is up to US -- the Enlightened Human Species -- to save all Life by making SUICIDE by VOLUNTARY STARVATION mandatory.

  3. This is what happens to a society of ignorant, purposefully-illiterate morons.

Shakespeare's words have come true: We are angry apes indeed making the angels weep.

Dr Larry Arnn, in his book The Founders' Key, provides the tonic. He explains how the founders' philosophy was grounded in an understand of the natural hierarchy of God, man, beast.

Animals do not enjoy the light of reason but rather act upon instinct. For this reason among others, they are not held to the same standards of responsibility as humans and are not held to the standards of law like humans.

How can one say they have rights when they have no responsibility under the law.

  4. just to play Devil's Advocate for minute let me say that if we are expected to consider that a zygote or a fetus in the early stages of development -- an entity that does not yet see, hear, smell, think or feel -- is truly a "human being," and therefore deserving of all the rights and privileges accorded thereof, then surely a warm-blooded animal with its expressive eyes and decided ability to feel loyalty, affection, hostility and even empathy as well as hunger, fear and pain, should be given the same consideration as any other conscious, sentient being.

    A little story:

I was never crazy about birds, once upon a time I inherited a parrot. I had a lot of respect for its owner, so I felt a moral obligation to look after the bird when its owner died. At first it was just a duty -- a chore -- and then one day I began to realize that this creature had bonded with me. That bird KNEW that I was the one feeding him and keeping his cage nice and clean. He also NEEDED to talk with me. Just feeing him wasn't enough. He wanted my ATTENTION -- just the way little babies want and need our attention. It may sound idiotic, if you've never bonded with a bird, but we had regular CONVERSATIONS. Nothing "intellectual," of course, but an exchange of feelings -- mutual regard, if you will.

To make a long story short, I had that bird for twenty years, and when he died -- very suddenly one morning he just keeled over and lay at the bottom of his age -- I felt a terrible stab of grief.

He's been gone for years now, but I still miss him.

Now you an dismiss that as poppycock, but if you do, I KNOW you are wrong.

There's a wonderful little book called Kinship With All Life that everyone should read. I've forgotten the author's name, but remember the contents. It's very ld, and long out of print, but you could probably find at at Amazon.com.

Genuine reverence for all life is not the same thing as the craziness exhibited by PETA whose primary motives are political -- just another anger-driven, hypocritical pretense to achieve greater Centralized Power.

Those who love do not act like the shrieking harpies and dour old scolds of the left.

  5. @ FT: Genuine reverence for all life

That, my friend is the key. And it is not an oxymoron to reverence them and then humanely kill them and eat them.

  6. Ah yes, Silverfiddle. Love them, kill them, eat them. Pretty much the same as Love 'em and leave 'em, only with cannibalism. Depending on what you're eating, of course.

I caught that PETA verdict on FOX news and laughed me arse off, since I was unaware that they were actually trying to give animals the same status as humans to begin with.

Certainly the opposite verdict would have empowered those drooling cloud-dwellers immensely, which no doubt is exactly what they want, political power. Screw the animals, that's just a way to get there. But it is amazing how many people actually climbed onto that bandwagon with them who are sincere in believing that animals should have human status. Definitely, the inmates are running the asylum. But then, they always have been, a quick review of history reveals that truth.

  7. Humans are supposedly superior to other animals because we have the ability to reason. An ability many PETA folks don't use. Among our specie there are many fools. I wonder if fools exist in other species.

  8. I do love animals and despise cruel treatment of them. However, I'm happy that the judge dismissed the case without trial. Imagine the problems with getting the whales into court to testify.

It's a good thing the 13the Amendment didn't outlaw political idiocy, or almost the entire state of California would be under indictment.

  9. I'm a proud member of PETA:
    People
    Eating
    Tasty
    Animals

I just read an article today where Connecticut is thinking about having bear season, they are getting such a large population. The good libs in that state are outraged and starting a petition drive to halt the state. The comments about bears on the site were hilarious "they are gentle" "they are harmless" "they are no threat to humans" etc. etc. etc.

I like bears. I like knowing they are there when I'm out in the woods. But I understand what they are, how they behave and what they are fully capable of doing. But these comments show just how utterly ignorant and detached from wild animals these kind of people are.

Of course, the PETA types don't want bears shot, and they want whales with human rights, but most of those same folks are all for cutting up and sucking babies out of the womb even at birth. Sad, sad, sad.

Well said. American Indians reverenced life. Every time they killed a bear, buffalo, or elk, they thanked their "brother" for providing them with his meat and skin and wished its spirit a pleasant journey. Then they started butchering. I'm the same way.

  10. I am an animal lover.

    But animals are not people.

These PETA law suits are a waste of the courts' time.

FT's comment about the bond with a beloved pet is downright eloquent.

I had such a bond with only one pet -- in a lifetime of having some wonderful pets. I miss that beloved pet, an Applehead Red Point Siamese every day. She's been gone since 1997. Honey Bunny was "human" in ways that defy description!

I think my dog should be allowed to vote.

As long as he's not a registered Democrat!

  12. Don't those Orcas live longer in captivity than in the wild?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Everything lives longer in captivity than in the wild. That wasn't true decades ago when zoos were just small enclosures. Modern zoologists understand and cater to their critters and design enclosures in a way that most animals will readily reproduce in captivity now - a sure sign that they are thriving.

Those people that work with whales and dolphins in aquariums know and understand their biology and natural history, and love those creatures far, far more than the people screaming for animal "rights."

Read some PETA literature sometime. Even rats and cockroaches have rights in their view.

  14. I'm not surprised by this, i've heard of a few of these cases around the world.

I know it seems crazy that crap like this even makes it to court, but i wonder if some of these judges sit there thinking - maybe i should allow these fools to bring their case in just for the amusement, it'll be fun to watch for a while before i boot them out the door.
