Some reading about Occupy Wall Street in the next post down ("Today's Recommended Reading").
Video from Saturday, October 8, 2011, when the Occupy Whatever group in Washington, D.C., forced the closing of the Smithsonian's Air and Space Museum (hat tip to Weasel Zippers):
Article HERE.
The museum had to be closed as a result of the protests.
Addendum: Check out The Beak's essay on the topic of Occupy Wall Street.
Yesterday, the Occupy Wherever group here in the D.C. got a four-month extension for their permit. This, after the permit had expired. The group refused to leave, so we're going to be plagued for several months.

ReplyDeletePROTESTERS ARE BEING PAID.
RECRUITED AND PAID.
THIS IS ASTROTURF, AND NOT A REAL PROTEST.
AND THE UNIONS ARE HELPING OUT. SEIU, THE UAW AND THE NEA.
SO... WHERE'D THEY GET ALL THE MONEY FOR THIS?
ARE STIMULUS FUNDS THE SOURCE?
JUST ASKING... SINCE UNIONS AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZING GROUPS PROBABLY GOT A LOT OF SO-CALLED STIMULUS MONEY...
Have you seen their list of demands? Were they to get them, this country would be Somalia in about two years, with no more personal electronic devices, or even enough electricity to run them.
ReplyDeleteDespite that, I still think these protests have potential for "success." It all depends on how the press handles them.
Will they report honestly? I'm not holding my breath.
See...you don't get it. They are protesting the FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS which influences and lobby's our...YOUR... government for policies which screw the middle class.
ReplyDeleteThe protest were not sponsored by SEIU or ACORN (which doesn't even exist anymore). You guys are nuts believing those who are out to discredit this movement. Are there idiots there? Sure there are. Are they carrying racist signs and firearms like the tea party rally's? No. These people are protesting for average middle class Americans who are sacrificing, losing jobs to corporations sending them overseas and banks who won't loan money while foreclosures are at a record high. These are the people who bailed out financial institutions who turned around and gave record bonuses to CEO's.
AOW: Sorry guy, unlike the Tea Party which was funded by Dick Armney's Freedomworks, the Heritage Foundations and the Koch Brothers, this was in fact grass roots.
ReplyDeleteHey, there's bd with the cardboard box. How were them grass roots moron, or should i say pot leaves.
ReplyDeleteand the Financial Institutions were paid with tax payers monies by.....
ReplyDeleteyou got it Democrats
These idiots should stop protesting and vote Republicans we opposed the Obama bailouts for banks, and the obamacare bailout for medical insurance carriers, and the obamaaid package for auto makers etc etc etc etc
On this point we agree the corporations are in the White House.
Heck GE has a key to the men's restroom
Last I checked not a single person was paid to be a tea party rally....
Yes there will be groups of conservatives that sponsor a particular event but the members are ordinary people with the only agenda of paying less in taxes and the government getting out of the way
