We need to rise above "automated bot-level arguments" and beat back the "hyenas of social media"

The Realignment Podcast, Ep. 89: Eric Weinstein, Reckoning with Capitol Chaos and How to Save America
Eric Weinstein crystalizes into coherent thought so much of what is going on right now. He also points to the way out of the nuthouse and back to some societal sanity.
You can listen to the podcast here on this blog, at the Realignment podcast website, or on your smart phone with Spotify or Google Podcast app (all free). I enjoy podcasts because I can listen in little bites on the way to work or while doing chores around the house. The podcast player keeps track of where you were and you can pick it back up anytime.
Weinstein's Key Points:
Post WW II America has been a rare period in time and place blessedly free of the societal ructions and human catastrophes so common in human history.
We have to "deprogram" our fellow citizens out on the fringes, offer redemption and welcome them back.
We must stop canceling people, even those we vehemently disagree with. Redemption is a basic human need. It is healthy for people and societies.
We must stop canceling people, even those we vehemently disagree with. Redemption is a basic human need. It is healthy for people and societies.
Institutional Media is driving our societal destruction.
The extremes of MAGA and Woke are cults.
We are LARPing to Armageddon.
Joe Biden is worse than Neville Chamberlain.
The Wuhan Lab Theory is viable, much of what the "experts" are telling us about covid is confusing and often not credible.
Our leaders have failed us. Everyone born before 1964 needs to get off the stage. Younger people need to "stop playing in the present and prepare for the future."
Weinstein's interview starts at the 7 minute mark. Skip to the 8 minute mark if you are impatient. The first 10 minutes or so are Weinstein describing how deception, fakery and role-playing are a big part of the public displays we are witnessing. From there he proceeds to criticize the talking heads who ascribe "meaning" to unfolding events as clueless, incurious, historically-ignorant half-wits no more qualified than you or me to provide commentary.
One of the key points Silver noted, and I admit, I haven't had time yet to listen to the entire podcast [like Silver, I too listen in chunks] is this...
ReplyDelete"We have to "deprogram" our fellow citizens out on the fringes, offer redemption and welcome them back."
Before we can begin any serious discussion, it seems we need to agree first on some common definitions. Can, or will, anyone here describe the "fellow citizens out on the fringes" on the left, and the right who need to be reprogrammed?
It seems to me before we can move ahead on any front, we need common ground on this front.
He does not strictly define this, but loosely, those in the thrall of Qanon and the censorious state of wokeistan.
DeleteI'm on someone's fringe, I'm sure.
DeleteBeware deprogramming me.
Ed, I doubt that. Did you believe Hillary was molesting children beneath that DC pizza parlor?
DeleteWeinstein does not criticize Trump voters, so he is on a different track than those on the hysterical left calling for all Trump voters to be "deprogrammed." In fact Weinstein condemns those calling for that.
Ed... I'd be interested in hearing how someone like you would describe the fringe of the right side of the ledger. Because I am guessing you would define it somewhat more to the right than you personally.
DeleteWhat does that look like to someone in your shoes?
Silverfiddle: I've been accused. That's my point. It's rather subjective.
DeleteDave: I don't know who is to the "right" of me. I have always felt that the left/right continuum was from anarchy to dictatorship.
Now I find constitutionalists who are libertarians and leftists who are defacto dictators, my governess for example.
Good post SF. LARPing is an appropriate term for the idiot fringes. A family-friendly term anyway.....I have others that come to mind.
ReplyDeleteI would add social media as well, to what's driving our societal destruction. We're not yet evolved enough as a species to use social media for it's positive potential.
Any activity that brings no negative consequences will continue. That's why the rightwing violent fringe has been silent. Other than some small groups that fall out to fight the leftwing street fascists, I don't see any rightwing repeats of the capitol violence.
DeleteViolent leftists have not met resistance, so they will continue.
I don't know what stops the censorious woke progressives slavering to cancel all who fail to bow down to the progressive orthodoxy.
That's why the rightwing violent fringe has been silent.
DeleteI largely & hopefully agree.....the outburst over the Big Lie may have run it's course....but that invented sense of victim-hood is still simmering under the surface. I don't think it would take much to reignite and have a repeat(s) of 6 Jan.
CI: My own personal pet conspiracy hypothesis--which I have no proof to back up--is that elements on the left have been prodding and goading "whites" on the right for many years, hoping to spark ugly outbursts and further divide people.
DeleteI have doubt at all that this has been a goal of some of the Left, but to what degree is unknowable. Just like the true number of racists on the Right.
DeleteI'd be curios as to what was the Big Lie.
DeleteThe fact that vans of votes were delivered in the dead of night?
That voting law was ignored?
That voting machines were documented changing votes?
Pray tell, what Big Lie?
Oh, you know what the Big Lie is. I hear there's an 8chan group that you might be interested in.
DeleteEd, These actions happened in states with Republican governments, or in the case of Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, GOP state houses. I can't understand how they would just let stuff like this slide.
Delete"I regret that I have but one life to give for my country".
DeleteThis is not in the minds of today's softy, cushy, bread winners of an era of polite mice.
The GOP State Legislators were threatened with Treason; if they challenged the Dictatorial Powers That Be.
Any Lawyer with aspirations of winning in the Courts, were threatened with Ethics Violations and Disbarment.
Only Trump has Pledged his Life and Fortune to fight this terrible EVIL!
CI: To suggest that I might be interested in a 4chan or 8cha group is to accuse me of right wing extremism, right?
DeleteLike I said in my comment above: "I'm on someone's fringe, I'm sure. Beware deprogramming me."
Answer the question. What is the Big Lie?
Was anything I mentioned a lie?
Silver: I can't understand either. The only explanation is the Swamp.
DeleteI guess that makes me a right wing fringe member.
Ed - Nope. I'm not accusing you of right wing extremism. I'm on a lot of people's fringe.
DeleteBut arguing your fantasies just isn't interesting to me. That's something you have to work through.
The more something is said the truer it becomes. We are subjected by the phrase systemic racism so much that it has become fact. Are the racists, yep and they come in all colors but is it systemic, I don't believe it is.
ReplyDeleteThe majority of people want to live their life and be left alone. The extremes on both the left and right are getting all the attention and that is thanks to social media and one sided reporting. No outrage and trial for the mayor of portland, minn and other cities when they said let them burn but the hated DJT says we love you and he is excoriated.
Lets be done with the trial, appease the left and not hold anyone accountable.
These college Ivyory Tower folk think we the little people
ReplyDeleteare so so wrapped up in our sixpaks and mudbog Bigfoot trucks, that they don't even know we are smart enough to have 3 people to see the whole picture.
One to say-here it comes, and one to say-here it is, and one to say-there it goes.
We have to be deprogrammed to enjoy the beautiful green globe that they want to have all to themselves.
We agree that there is a whole class of condescending pricks who can't stand people like us, but the man in this podcast is not one of them.
DeleteI am trying to explain to my blogger buddies here that we freedom-lovers have some good allies on the liberal side, especially among academic liberals who cannot remain silent while truth and reason are slaughtered on the altars of tribalism.
You are right I won't vent, when venting isn't the norm.
ReplyDeleteIt is tough not to.
And I wasn't putting this guy in a box.
This kind of guy is one of the 2nd who says here it is.
The 1st Guy who says here it comes -is made fun of for being a killjoy - a lookout - for trouble coming our way.
The 3rd guy is the one who listens to the other two and can detour a lot of the momentum (there it goes). Cause it happens so fast, the 2nd guy can be buried by the pier pressure. And even though the 2nd guy has good intentions,
the pier pressure is just to burdensome.
When it comes to the word deprogramming, there are so many red flags-especially if one has experience with the Moonies.
Those poor kids were deprogrammed from reality, and then deprogrammed again from Moonies. Rev Sun Yong Moon really did a number on them. And it wrenched your gut
to have to put them through
I can't even talk about it anymore.
It is happening again with another Jim Jones; and so it goes. Liberals are the next to sell the Flowers on the street corners and or drink the kool-aid. I feel so so
sorry for them - but just can't reach them. The evil just keeps exponentially multiplies and multiplies - for the kids are such a easy target. Antifa programmers have this down to a science. Those in the know will soon be tried and convicted for interfering with the fascist.
That was an excellent "vent!"
DeleteWeinstein used that word, deprogram, on purpose. We are all susceptible to the thrall of tribal doctrine. He did not use it as a weapon as the rabid leftwingers attacking us right now do.
It is interesting to try to perceive what types of propaganda or programming (not all of it negative; civilization is all about programming) are prevalent even here in the democratic West. I think it is arrogant for any of us to assume we are immune to it.
DeleteJez,
DeleteI wholeheartedly agree.
and so it goes.
ReplyDeleteMark Cubn says no more National Anthem at his games.
Most people are late to the discussion.
ReplyDeleteRace debate is so old news.
as religion is the new target of the extremism
from the Left.
Next will be the people who try an convince the other side that the Sky is blue.

ReplyDeleteBlueBull,
Deleteidiocy here at AOW's cesspool
Says the man who has lived off the charity of a Trumptard for several years.
Now that the Trumptard has passed away, this man curses Trump supporters at every opportunity.
Hypocrisy much?
Respond to this comment, and your response will be deleted on sight.
BlueBull has deleted his comment. I guess that he's afraid that his Progressive friends might find out that he has been living off the generosity of a Trumptard. LOL.

DeleteRoger, as pitiful a shape as he was in, took compassion on you and felt sorry for you, all eaten up with cancer (in his words, that your cancer inflicts upon you "the tortures of the damned")
DeleteAnd you full well know that Roger was a Trumper.
Enough of this chit chat. Bye bye.

DeleteBlueBull,
DeleteYou are an amazing liar!
And you fleeced Roger. Well, I shouldn't have expected better from a Progressive.
@Bluebullshit,
DeleteSeems that you're giving all your sock puppets away.
You're just another troll with nothing better to do with your time than get drunk and live off the government dole while you lye to make yourself feel better. Roger didn't know that you were making donations to gropey Joe with the charity he gave you.
Do doubt you believe the BS you spout, pathological liars always do.
He knew he was dying. He told me he wanted to live long enough to vote for Trump, and he did, through the miracle of absentee voting. Hardly the words of a dying man.
It must be hard, and cut in to your liquor money, to have to figure a way to pay for it yourself. If it were me, I'd find it hard to degrade the memory of a poor blind old man that was losing the ability to care for himself and his ability to purse his love in life, music. I guess you can always console yourself because he cared more about what would happen to his poor blind kitty, Mr Pussy, than you.
Blueballs is a despicable pos, and I told Roger as much, but I refrained from flaming Blueballs at Roger's request. Unfortunately for us all, Roger isn't here anymore, so I am free to say Blueballs is an ungrateful, miserable despicable pos.
