  1. The EU has a larger population and economy than the US. Time to get them off Uncle Sam's teat and onto their own feet.

With their own credible defense, they could trade as equals and without fear with Russia and the rest of the world.

If the EU had a credible Navy, they could put an end to the human trafficking across the Mediterranean.

    1. That's the issue....we broke up Germany because they had a nasty habit of taking people's stuff... especially Russia.
We didn't want them armed to the teeth..
But times have changed and perhaps you are right... I for one, will hold on to the notion that this one big time government is not the road in Europe nor anywhere.
Russia has had more to fear from Europe the last century than the other way around..but what do I know...

  2. Hysterical Trump Derangement Syndrome sufferers are shrieking and tearing their hair out of the President's meeting with Putin.

Here's some perspective: The Tragedy of the Neocons

After noting Israel met with Russia right before President Trump, and gained Russian agreement that the Iranians must leave Syria's southern border, the article concludes...

But honestly, when it comes to its national security, why should Israel—or for that matter, the White House—accept advice from a bunch of people whose policies—ousting Saddam Hussein from power and spreading democracy in the Middle East—helped strengthen the power of Iran and its Shiite satellites? Who destabilized the region, and created the conditions for the rise of ISIS? With friends like this, who needs enemies?

    1. AmCon: John Brennan, Melting Down and Covering Up

Treason, traitor, coup, the empire striking back—those are just words, Third World stuff, clickbait, right? So the more pedestrian answer must then be correct. The lessons of Whitewater and Benghazi learned, maybe the point is not to build an atmosphere of crisis leading to something undemocratic, but just to have a perpetual investigation, tickled to life as needed politically.

Indeed, Republicans need to use their majority to demand Mueller shit or get off the pot, before November.

  3. My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.

The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens. By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.

My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion: So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck. Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble. When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee. Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.

Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm. Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways. For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous.

The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just. Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly. The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.

    2. You haven't been paying attention:
      1. The left wants a single payer system as they have in the rest of the industrialized world with universal access to health insurance.
CI, note bene: Hillary opposed single payer and favored for profit insurers.

      2. Lower tuition to public institutions has merit. Nobody wants strictly free tuition for illegals but your mentioning it tips your hand.

      3. Everybody gets a job? How did you dream that up? So far higher minimum wages seem to be beneficial. Oh I, Hillary balked at the idea of $15. You weren't paying attention.

      4. The fringe right media are alive and well. You're whining.

Trump Embarrasses Hillary on Russia with Video Tweet

      by Thomas Lifson

People who live in Russia-tinted glass houses shouldn't be throwing stones. The decision to pretend Russia is our most worrisome boogeyman, and that it somehow managed to tilt the 2016 presidential election to Trump, was made in haste as a means of explaining away a defeat that was unthinkable to the entire political and media establishment, including a wide swath of Republicans and conservatives.

It is an exceedingly dangerous thread to pull on, however, considering the history of Democrats colluding with the USSR under communism, not to mention the Uranium One deal tainting Hillary Clinton and her husband with millions of dollars received from beneficiaries of the sellout of America's strategically vital uranium reserves.

There is a rich vein of Democrats for President Trump to mine saying and doing things to benefit Russia. Thursday, he tweeted this video of Hillary shilling for a "strong Russia":

Will the Dems and Fake News ever learn? This is classic!

      pic.twitter.com/kSX3ROI4QG

Just wait until Uranium One facts start appearing. And remember that it was Rod Rosenstein who handled the prosecution that amounted to a whitewash.

Socialism in the botanical garden: Why Venezuela can't have nice things

    by Monica Showalter

Is there any dreadfully destructive deed socialism can't accomplish? Reuters has an excellent piece (other than omitting the 's' word) about the terrible fate of Venezuela's priceless botanical garden in Caracas.

"CARACAS (Reuters) - Dead palm trees and a dried-up lagoon are what you see when you enter Caracas’s botanical garden. A UNESCO World Heritage site and once one of the city’s most important tourist spots, its directors are trying to rescue it from abandonment."

Yes, I know, the country has far more hellish problems with people starving, fleeing, running out of water, and using machetes on one another to fight for garbage scraps.

But the destruction of nature is terrible, too. The botanical garden doesn't even rate as high as zoo animals starving on the mercy scale, yet it's deeply disturbing.

The Reuters story says the famed Moriche palms of the area have crumbled and dried up, along with one third of its palms. The gargantuan Santa Cruz water lilies, with pads so huge they can support a small child, have all died.

Socialist price and currency controls, along with free-spending inflation, last seen clocking in at north of 41,000%, has left the garden with a $66 (with no zeros) operating budget. It obviously is not going to survive unless there's regime change.

I find this immensely sad. It's part of a long continuum of socialist war with nature, the warlike result that gave us the ruin of the Aral Sea, the black rivers of China, the ugliness of Norilsk nickel, and the wasteland of Cuba's once prominent citrus groves and tobacco fields. Now it's hit Venezuela, and not just the oil fields, and not just the nature reserves, described here in 2005. … “Chavista greed and meddling left the estate defenseless as the then-starving locals were eating the parrots. … the land held some of the oldest geological formations on the continent and so much knowledge was being lost as the estate was ravaged and the ecological structure disrupted. How very very sad to see it go! …

No nation with this kind of bounteous natural treasure should not have some kind of botanical garden to showcase its wonders, reminding the country of its vast inheritance, delighting its visitors, and teaching kids about it. In any normal society, even a poor one, a botanical garden is always possible. Just not in a socialist one.

Will Bernie Sanders and his new sidekick, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ever notice that? Don't hold your breath. And the greenies, of course, are perfectly silent.

    1. Caracas was a world-class city in the 80's, and Venezuela--free and prosperous--was the envy of much of the rest of Latin America. Socialism destroyed all that.

Venezuela is also a red flag warning for oligarchs who use the power of the state to enrich themselves and rip off everybody else.

    2. Hesiod, "Works and Days"
[248] You princes, mark well this punishment you also; for the deathless gods are near among men and mark all those who oppress their fellows with crooked judgements, and reck not the anger of the gods. For upon the bounteous earth Zeus has thrice ten thousand spirits, watchers of mortal men, and these keep watch on judgements and deeds of wrong as they roam, clothed in mist, all over the earth. And there is virgin Justice, the daughter of Zeus, who is honoured and reverenced among the gods who dwell on Olympus, and whenever anyone hurts her with lying slander, she sits beside her father, Zeus the son of Cronos, and tells him of men's wicked heart, until the people pay for the mad folly of their princes who, evilly minded, pervert judgement and give sentence crookedly. Keep watch against this, you princes, and make straight your judgements, you who devour bribes; put crooked judgements altogether from your thoughts.

[265] He does mischief to himself who does mischief to another, and evil planned harms the plotter most.

[267] The eye of Zeus, seeing all and understanding all, beholds these things too, if so he will, and fails not to mark what sort of justice is this that the city keeps within it. Now, therefore, may neither I myself be righteous among men, nor my son -- for then it is a bad thing to be righteous -- if indeed the unrighteous shall have the greater right. But I think that all-wise Zeus will not yet bring that to pass.

  6. Trump Had a Good Week\

My next book really will be "The Best Eight Years of Our Lives." So far, that is all I have written. I will get around to writing the book sometime in 2025. Right now, I am savoring each moment, and watching the grand restoration of the United States of America take place.

A column by Piers Morgan in the Daily Mail clarified the present moment:

"There’s a 24/7 outrage industry surrounding Trump which handsomely rewards those who participate in it – be they cable news networks, newspapers, late night talk shows, or politically-motivated entertainers on social media.

"Relentless Trump-bashing is hugely popular, and the more frenzied the better. It directly translates into substantially higher TV ratings, newspaper subscriptions, and for the entertainers - ticket/book/album sales.

"So his most ardent critics all have a big vested financial interest in mocking and abusing the President every minute of every day.”

Being the biggest opportunist in journalism on either side of the pond, Morgan did some Trump bashing, but he also praises President Trump because Morgan realizes that history will, inevitably, vindicate President Trump. His critics are the bamboozlers and schnooks who got us into this mess. ...

President Trump's critics don't see him for what he is: the champion of America. ...

Morgan interviewed President Trump aboard Air Force One.

The president told him, "I’d like to see peace. A lot of people thought we’re going to be at war with Trump as President. Well here it is -- we’re getting rid of wars. We’re actually getting out of wars.’

"Look, if we can get along with Russia that’s a good thing. For the United States to get along with Russia and China and all these other places…. Piers that’s a good thing, that’s not a bad thing. That’s a really good thing."

The best eight years of our lives.

And this week was one of the better of those 416 weeks because it was a week in which the leaders of world's two nuclear super powers met, and agreed to wage peace.

I can see why warmongers would call it treason.
