See White males need not apply for this $10,000 social justice journalism grant: Open only to women and journalists of color at The College Fix.

PJ Media offers THIS COMMENTARY on the aforementioned essay:
...Once again, we see what matters most to progressives. They don't care about much else other than what's only skin deep. You can be a horrible person and a crap journalist, but if you're a "woman of color" then you deserve a better shot than an excellent and dedicated white male.

  2. Indivisible nation?
We need a common enemy to unify around.
    We have one.
Unfortunately a large segment of our society is defending that enemy.
I bet if we faced space alien invaders, that same segment would defend them also.

Journalism used to follow the model of the the inverted journalism.

About four years ago, however, news organizations (including CNN, which long employed the husband of one of my clients, started dumping journalists trained in the inverted pyramid.

The anecdotal lead has come to prevail much of which purports to be news reporting.

"News" stories today have degenerated into a form of click bait.

I'll take a personal tack here....

I pay for subscriptions to several periodicals: Time Magazine (both hard copy and digital), the Washington Post (both hard copy and digital), and the New York Times (digital only). Otherwise, I have a difficult time accessing the material. Apparently, these publications have enough subscribers to stay afloat. For now, anyway.

Honestly, Jez, I don't think that money is the answer to solving the problem of the lack of journalistic integrity. For one thing, the problem lies with the changes in the schools of "journalism."

  5. The article is reflective of the same (deeply) flawed thinking that suggests that only a recovering alcoholic, a former junkie, or someone once-convicted of beating his wife can become an effective substance abuse or anger-management counselor. Apparently, these imbeciles are convinced that a white male is incapable of understanding “social justice issues.” Alternatively, the clowns know that white men with more than three working brain-cells dismiss arguments supporting social justice nonsense as being inimical to American values. In a meritocracy such as ours, the genesis of self-esteem is actually accomplishing something. Ours is a society that values equal opportunity and shuns any notion of guaranteed equal outcomes. By now, most of us is aware that the brain-dead left intends to incessantly repeat the social justice drivel because, in doing so, and given enough time, most Americans will become life-time members of our least-intelligent population, whereupon a communist state in America may finally become a reality.

Let me add this thought: Imbeciles such as Hank Johnson, John Conyers, Charles Rangel, Jim Clyburn, John Lewis, Keith Ellison, Elijah Cummings, Maxine Waters, Sheila Jackson-Lee, Kamala Harris, Eleanor Holmes-Norton, and Corrine Brown actually do perceive themselves as intelligent. I’m sure that all of these people know what they know, they just don’t know why they know it, nor understand a tenth of what they think they know ... which renders 89.9% of everything they think and say moot.

    2. Not exactly, Sam. Your analogy is pretty lame.
The premise that ONLY minorities can write on minority issues is absent. If there is an overarching premise I would say that the premise is that minority voices are important and underrepresented.
Now you have grounds to argue the issue that minorities are underrepresented in journalism but you can't argue that the grants mean male voices are incapable of reporting social justice issues.
That has nothing to do with the matter at hand.

Then you go completely off the trolley with your nonsense that "the clowns know that white men ... dismiss arguments supporting social justice nonsense as being inimical to American values."

It's all just a sad ad hominem argument that manages to deflect from the core of the issue and doesn't permit and discussion of the real issue.

I noticed this in the article:
"This past January, seven winners were selected to receive $9,000 grants each, with winners seeking to “give a voice to Native Americans,” and report on “law enforcement and criminal justice,” among other topics."

Wow, 63 grand. Sure is enough to lock whiny whites out of journalism. But I was taken by the idea of "giving a voice to Native Americans" (I know, they're all over broadcast news). We could have used a stronger Native American voice for their issues on the recent Dakota pipeline protest. Other than Democracy Now! there were no outlets reporting it.

If you read this far I'm surprised but now you can go back to getting both sides (as if all issues are binaries) from Fox News.

      Delete
    3. See, the problem is everyone deserves a chance based on merit only. Only. That's the 'core of the issue,' and your stepping in as if you've got the answers is fun for a laugh but getting tiresome.

As for FOX, please PLEASE do your homework and compare CNN to FOX and THEN tell us where you're getting two points of view. It would really help your arguments, which are vapid and obviously incorrect.

      Thanks

    4. You make an assumption that the grant recipients aren't qualified.
Now in a group of QUALIFIED applicants why is it wrong to choose minorities if there is a perceived shortage in the field.

The question of whether that shortage exists is the issue as well as the proposition that minority voices are needed but falling back on the assumption that the grant recipients aren't worthy, well I'll let you think on that.

Who do you consider the "liberal" voices on Fox? They announced hiring Laura Ingraham recently. Maybe she's who you had in mind?

      Delete
    5. Ducky, that's my point...if they're qualified, they deserve everything. I made NO assumption they were unqualified and ask you to show where I did. If there's a group of qualified applicants they deserve the same chance anybody gets. That should seem clear. But to pick a minority for minority-sake? It's insulting to them and everyone else.
I know a Black doctor who told me me he was never sure until he'd been in practice a few years if his patients knew he was talented or just got thru school because he was Black.. that is unfair.

FOX? I'm not talking about the hosts....although Shep Smith is NO CONSERVATIVE and he has the 3:00 EST show....Tell me who's conservative at MSNBC or CNN!
But that's when they differ...CNN has a tubby little Hispanic Republican who despises Trump and says nothing but insults toward him the whole time...she's their only regular conservative. Nice choice :-)

FOX seems to have more liberal contributors than all other cables combined....Juan Williams, a couple of very articulate black professors, Richard Fowler and others...they have Jehmu Green, they have Rosen..SO many I don't have the time or desire to list them all for you again and again...we've been through this.
But that's the case and it's indisputable.

    6. Once more, Ducky dances around the theme of the argument. The issue isn’t whether a minority is ultimately chosen ... it is that “no white male need apply.” Leftists have no problem denying an opportunity to a white male, while pretending that they are all for “social justice.” It is similar to the way Ducky and his ilk dances around the issue of abortion, mainly targeted at black communities, while pretending to be disgusted by the so-called racist-right. I have to conclude from this that there is something seriously wrong with a leftist’s ability to establish premises and then, end up with relevant conclusions.

For Z ... talking to Ducky is like shouting into the Grand Canyon. Forget trying to reason with him; he’s unreasonable.

    7. On what basis do you argue that minority interests are under-represented? The claim is preposterous on its face since we’ve been plagued with affirmative action programs since 1961. As with Kennedy’s incompetent support of April Gillespie, the net effect of affirmative action has been to cripple the quality of our post-secondary educational programs and undermine workplace efficiency in several important areas. We can only evaluate this abomination in these three areas: the stated intent of the program, the message the program as communicated to the larger society, and the outcome of affirmative action programs.

      Here’s what I know:

      (1) At best, affirmative action programs net mixed results, but overall, their impact has been negative. We can say that such programs have increased the number of women and minorities in positions of influence in academia, government, and the private sector—and that this is generally a good thing, but we must also identify the admission and graduation from colleges and universities large numbers of low-performing students, who then enter the workforce to create havoc in important sectors. I have two examples: institutions of higher learned systemically “dumb-down” their academic standards in order to graduate a higher number of minorities —it entitles them to federal money, which is always a corrupting influence. Fact: people have died because of incompetent minority nurses. If this wasn’t bad enough, then we have lawyers in the ilk of Lois Lerner trampling all over the rights of our citizens, and Hillary Clinton, who could not even pass the Washington DC Bar Examination. Police departments are not made more efficient by hiring lazy, incompetent minority women who only increase the burden on their male counterparts.

      (2) Affirmative-action students tend to enroll in “easy majors;” their drop-out rates are higher than if they actually had to earn a seat at college or university. The message this sends to our communities overall works against our hopes for a more harmonious society. Of course, this doesn’t matter to the communist left since the last thing they want is an agreeable society.

      (3) These programs create winners and losers, breeds racial, ethnic, and gender-based resentment. One can’t help but commiserate with white and Asian men denied their right of “equal opportunity” by government Affirmative Action programs. This is not how most people view “social justice,” but it is how they view reverse discrimination.

      (4) Affirmative action programs treat as legitimate the imbecilic proposition that historically victimized groups warrant recompense from individuals who had no hand in the victimization; the implication of this is that women and minorities are so incompetent that they are unable to stand on their own two feet without government mandated special considerations. How insulting is that?

The question remains whether the purpose of the grant is compelling but that is what needs to be argued not your imagined white injustice.

      Delete
    12. Now you have grounds to argue the issue that minorities are underrepresented in journalism.

They are under-represented, there's no question about it. Now you have to ask, "Why are they under-represented?" Is it because they've been discriminated against? Or is it because they are incapable of meeting a traditional "journalistic standard" of academic achievement, commensurate with their numbers in the general population? If it is the latter, then I have no problem with these grants. If it is the former, then we need to ensure that America's standards of "equal opportunity" are STRICTLY enforced. Unfortunately for ducky, THAT means that these grants are illegal. The question is, will the Left now ADMIT that the LATTER argument IS THE TRUTH?

ANSWER: We must learn to dig deep into our Inner Consciousness ––, our innate sense of Right and Wrong ––, our capacity to VISUALIZE both the desirable and undesirable results from our incipient activities.

FACTS per se are relatively unimportant UNLESS we are able to relate them to the basic underlying PRINCIPLES that make up the TRUTH of BEING.

If we get enmired in a plethora of FACTS, we are in grave danger of losing touch with IMAGINATION, INSIGHT and the INSTINCTS that make us fully human. In other words we render ourselves incapable of "seeing the forest for the trees." We also put ourselves in danger of being incapable of experiencing WONDER, EMPATHY and DELIGHT.

Each isolated fact is like one of the single small tiles that make up a gigantic mosaic –– or like the individual leaves that comprise a full-grown tree –– or the indivicual pieces in a jigsaw puzzle –– or the unividual notes that make up a Fugue, a Sonata, a String Quarter, a Symphony, a Tone Poem, or an Opera –– or even a simple folk song.

Isolated FACTS can be misleading. TRUTH is at once far more complex and much SIMPLER than any bundle of ill-assorted facts.

Remember please we must stand at a considerable distance to see what the tiles of a mosaic represent, jst as we must look at tree across a meadow to appreciate its beauty fully.

Do you really discount the possibility they introduced this into the thought-stream of Britons and contributed to this trend? It's a possibility.

Having said that, there were a few contemporaneous accounts of such attacks in the 1800's in London.

Also, disfigurement attacks are as old as mankind. Although not common, a women throwing a pan of scalding grease on an abusive husband has been known to happen in Latin America.

If you don't see this as one more point of societal retrograde, I can't help you further, moreso if you are comforted that "only" a few thousand barely-pubescent girls are enslaved in marriages to 7th century child rapists, and that this is enabled by thousands of "British" families.

    16. If only such practices were carried out not by muslims, but by rightwing fundamentalist Christians. NPR and BBC would be investigating and inveighing night and day about how such people have no place in the modern west, and they would be right.

    18. SilverFiddle, haven't you figured out YET that attempting to reason with doctrinaire leftists is tantamount to makng an attempt to civilize a MULE using religious dgma and sophisticated philsophical precepts?

In their own peculiar way these people are very like committed rellgious fanatics who would literally rather DIE than ever admit the beliefs that have been instilled in them by the despotic Masters of Deceit, Corruption and Depravity could be wrong.

And of course, THEY would not be correct in accusing those who oppose them of acting congruently even though it be in an opposing vein.

    21. Even in South Asia, it seems like quite a recent choice of weapon (late 60s). I don't know that the idea wouldn't have spread without migration.

It's certainly not progress, but I don't know if we're any more violent overall than we used to be; and we should not be comforted by the scale of forced marriage in the west, but neither should we abandon our sense of proportion. BTW I heard an item about this on BBC radio about a week ago; I'm sure it gets covered on TV fairly regularly too.

  11. We'll be 'indivisible' again when whites are so far in the minority that they'd dare not speak up. That they're not speaking up now is that slippery slope.
ALL PEOPLE DESERVE WHAT THEY HAVE AND WHAT THEY GET ON MERIT ONLY. What's so hard to understand?
When we started abusing ourselves of that common sense, we started going down hill....thanks again to the 'nice, big hearted' left which is killing our country in their 'niceness.'
We need mature adult leaders again and a media that believes in fairness, real information, not 'niceness'...niceness brings the stupidity of socialism, all in the name of 'nice'..

I'm glad that I'm as old as I am.

In many respects, the time period of my childhood and early through middle-age adulthood was a period of halcyon days for America.

A perfect time period? No. But compared to now? Much better.

    3. Jon, I know what the media are telling us about the percentage of “white Christians” ... but I would caution your acceptance of this at face value since pollsters have cleverly changed the way they collect information. For example, does being a Christian mean that you actually see yourself as part of the Judeo-Christian framework, or does it rather mean that you attend an Assembly of God church on a regular basis. The term “white evangelicals” has the connotation of being “radical Christians,” and most people simply do not identify themselves in this way. Many Christians do not attend regular church services and so do not identify themselves as “regular Christians.”

Another example, “white” is a distinction we give ourselves. When pollsters ask us questions, they allow us to choose whether we are white, black, or something in-between. A Caucasian Christian may have a mother from Indonesia, and because they are not altogether white skinned, may identify him or herself as “Asian.” Here’s a fact: 82% of Americans identify themselves as Christians, some of these as “unaffiliated” with any particular church organization.

    4. To back up what Sam is saying:

"White" is a social construct, and what frustrates the leftwing tribal councils is the phenomena of the "disappearing Hispanics."

A high percentage of Hispanic people assimilate and intermarry into larger society, as do a dangerously pernicious percentage of East Asians, and they check the "white" box on government forms, damn them...

Believe it or not, even in this age of insanity, there are millions of people who refuse to participate in the tribal warfare and victimology sweepstakes gripping the Progressive State of Amreeka.

    Defeatist rhetoric will die aborning,
Though seen by many merely as a warning,
Each bitter word will serve to weave a rope

By which we’ll hang ourselves when the despair
    We manufacture with denunciation
Of all the grievous faults that plague the nation
Convinces us our world’s beyond repair.

What good could we expect to come from that?
    Affirmation is the only answer

The geese now migrate from the south to north.
The ocean vast is nothing now but shore.
The semen towards the egg will not come forth.

Negativity we worship now as god.

    1. Joe,
      Interesting article.

      Excerpt therefrom:

Let’s start with the question of fatal violence. Last year, according to the Washington Post’s tally, just 16 unarmed black men, out of a population of more than 20 million, were killed by the police. The year before, the number was 36. These figures are likely close to the number of black men struck by lightning in a given year, considering that happens to about 300 Americans annually and black men are 7 percent of the population. And they include cases where the shooting was justified, even if the person killed was unarmed. Of course, police killings are not the result of a force of nature, and I’m not claiming these are morally equivalent. But the comparison illustrates that these killings are incredibly rare, and that it’s completely misleading to talk about an “epidemic” of them....
