  1. John Brennan Sworn in on Constitution Without a Bill of Rights

    BY ELSPETH REEVE | MAR 8, 2013

New CIA director John Brennan was sworn into office Friday on the original draft of the Constitution — as in, the one drafted in 1787, four years before it included the Bill of Rights. It is a symbolic thing, but the White House got the symbolism wrong.

Brennan has been criticized for being involved in, or at least aware of, various CIA policies that trouble civil libertarians.

Brennan said he knew of, but did nothing to stop, the torture of war-on-terror detainess under the Bush administration.

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul filibustered Brennan's nomination on Wednesday and into Thursday ...

... White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Brennan requested the 1787 copy of the Constitution from the National Archives to show the U.S. is a nation of laws ...

Earnest explained, "Director Brennan told the president that he made the request ... because he wanted to reaffirm his commitment to the rule of law as he took the oath of office as director of the CIA."

Perhaps we are making a mountain out of a molehill on this? It seems more like an odd coincidence than part of some ghastly plot. This White House is clumsy, inelegant and ill-informed on our history, but then so is the electorate or we wouldn't have Odammit as POTUS, would we?

We get the government we deserve.

  2. Federal workers owe $3.5 billion in back taxes

    Saturday - 3/9/2013, 12:00pm ET

    STEPHEN OHLEMACHER

    Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The number of federal workers and retirees who owed delinquent income taxes jumped by nearly 12 percent in 2011, the Internal Revenue Service said Friday. ...

Overall, the 9.8 million workers included in the data had a delinquency rate of 3.2 percent. ... The IRS says the delinquency rate for the general public was 8.2 percent.

Okay. Here's another excellent example of how editors use headlines and topic sentences to skew the public's perception of an issue. Using "facts" to create a wrong, agenda-driven impression.

    YELLOW JOURNALISM strikes again.

And BOTH sides use this scurrilous technique in abundance.

  3. Mayor Bloomberg's new health crusade: too-loud earbuds

    By CARL CAMPANILE

    March 6, 2013 ...

Mayor Bloomberg ... is embarking on a new crusade: preventing New Yorkers from going deaf.

Hizzoner’s health officials are planning a social-media campaign to warn young people about the risk of losing their hearing from listening to music at high volume on personal MP3 players, ...

“With public and private support, a public-education campaign is being developed to raise awareness about safe use of personal music players . . . and risks of loud and long listening,” said Nancy Clark, the city Health Department’s assistant commissioner of environmental-disease prevention." ...

This is NOT an absurd idea. Noise pollution in public spaces has been a serious problem since the arrival of accursed Sock-sties when Rock 'n Roll -- an INSULT to DECENCY, Refinement and Good Deportment took over the land, and corrupted Public Taste.

Bloomberg, however, is going about this the wrong way. An outright BAN on BOOMBOXES making immediate CONFISCATION and DESTRUCTION mandatory should have been put into effect 45 years ago.

It never happened, of course, because "everybody" is scared to death of offending the Enwords.

  4. FYI: The link concerning OBAMACARE is not functioning.

We need to look beyond the headlines and learn what sort of "twist" the editors are putting on the "facts" they choose to emphasize.

Lying through the use of "facts" has always been SOP with urinalists, but has become honed to a fine Art in latter years. It has been the stock-in-trade of the left for many decades. Unfortunately the right has adopted the practice too -- in self defense.

Ergo, the cleverest, wiliest distortions and obfuscations almost invariably win the day.

A PROPERLY educated public would be able to know discern they are being deceived most of the time, but "proper" education is in short supply these days.

  5. "Earnest explained, 'Director Brennan told the president that he made the request ... because he wanted to reaffirm his commitment to the rule of law as he took the oath of office as director of the CIA.'"

That's REALLY reaching, even for Brennan. As if knowing of his background in the Middle East isn't enough, being Bath House Barry's nomination makes me think that sharia law is coming to a theater near you soon.

  6. FT,
That link you mentioned takes forever to load. It cites this source, which loads faster.

I will change the link in the body of the blog post.

    Thanks for the heads up!

  7. As one who suffers with tinnitus, I urge parents to warn their kids about very loud noise. This is NOT a fun afflication, TRUST ME. There is absolutely NO PROOF that loud noise causes it (there is no info on how one gets it nor is there a cure) but if I was told this years ago, I'd at least have been more careful and not been in a rock group, gone to loud concerts, etc. (tho I enjoyed that immensely!)

Having said that, to legislate that kids can't shoot us the finger when we ask them to turn down their music (remember when kids would have heard "please turn down your music" and answered with "i'm SO sorry...yes, I'll do that now"?) is nuts.
One cannot legislate GOOD MANNERS and CARING ABOUT OTHERS.

It's a change in CHARACTER we need, not legislation.

  8. On the ear-BUD: FT do you know how they work? Their mostly sound-sealed. Only the person can hear the music. Same with decent headphones. This, is just a 'learning' thing, is outside what a mayor should do. If it is made a law, like the damnable soda thing, then the issue begins.

On the no-bill-of-rights: look, the likelihood of that being an accident is slim. The CIA director asked specifically for the older version. Why? The only reason is because it lacks the Bill of Rights. He even said, he was going to support the law, and only the law. The iron fist, or boot, of the law that is. Fact is without the Amendments, there is nothing stopping the Government from doing whatever it wants. Nothing whatsoever saying we have Rights. Just like England (or at least how they used to be), we would lack any true rights.

On the feds... almost a meh. Though, if the gov. pays them, can't they force them to pay the backtaxes?

We told them so on OBcare. They said we were lying. Well, the proof is in the pudding. Too late now! Twould be fun to show to librals, no?

Liberals, you are idiots. Anger management, step 500 in making-gun-buying-ridiculous.I think you guys need idiot management, or troll management.

No surprise, the Quran does state that (IIRC). Nice that they have the guts to say it though, the lies were getting annoying. Now, ostriches, what do you say? Or will you even look?

Meh on the doctor. Though the last part makes me think: if the patient is doing everything, what is the point of doctors anyways?

what I don't even... the school system does NOT seem to realize, or CARE, that they are anything BUT balanced by doing this. This. is. ABSURD. Again. Schools are not fair, balanced, sane, or sensitive. They are liberal, insulting, and pig-headed.

Really. The DOG has a motercade? REALLY? Stupid stuff like the dog should go FIRST. Its a DOG. A.stinking.dog!It eats poo and then poos and drools on the patch on concrete it sleeps on!

Why did this make news? This is crackpot in the extremity. In fact, who is taking that claim seriously?

Royal King Obama, coming through. Or maybe Pharaoh. Sheesh. Get over your big head and ego, BO. That incident in particular was undefendable (everyone else was fine), but in general: why the heck does he have a taste tester? Really? When has their EVER been a poison attempt on the POTUS? Or Congress, for that matter. I do not see the need, outside of ego.

  10. Don't get me started on boomboxes and car stereos blasting!

I live on a busy secondary artery. All summer long, we here in this household are tormented by cars stopped at a nearby intersecting and blasting the music all the way into our house. The noise is substantial -- even with the windows closed and the window-unit AC running!

  11. Well, AOW, this is where your constitutional right to bear arms should kick in. If "The Law" had its head screwed on in the RIGHT direction, using those deeply offensive passersby for T4RG8T PR4CT1CE would be ENCOURAGED and REWARDED, not FORBIDDEN.

After you'd picked off a couple of hundred of the båstards that element would soon learn either to stop blasting or at least to give you a wide berth.

Snîpîng at boomboxers ought to be officially declared A National Pastime with annual awards presented on The C åpitol Steps by whatever Chief Justice reigns over SCOTUS at the time.

The more I think about it the better I like it.

We should also be free to knock out the SPEAKERS in restaurants, waiting rooms, corridors of public buildings and public toilets.

Soundproofed "ear buds" are fine -- as long as the ears they destroy belong to the accursed rock 'n roll addict and not me -- or any other member of an unwilling audience within range.

And no I am NOT kidding -- really!

    BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

I've seen cars actually ROCKING with the loud sound waves. The drivers often have the windows rolled up. Still, the sound escapes and assaults the rest of us.

  13. Me too! They should be given a chance to repent, and shut the Sounds from Hell OFF --- ONCE.

After that, they should be SH0T D34D IN THE SPOT, and left to ROT in place -- till the flesh rots and falls off their accursed bones and turns to dust -- as a warning to other would-be offenders.

Yeah, and guess who'll get stuck with taking care of these STOOPIDS due to hearing loss and associated afflictions?

Not to worry; we have OBAMACARE!

I spent years in the Colorado Workers' Compensation System. I can't even tell you how many 'hearing loss' cases I saw filed, attributing such to industrial exposure. And further, I can't tell you how many of these cases were compensated by Liberal Judges; plenty though . Hey, no big surprise, the 'demographic' of these claimants corresponded, exactly, to the age, etc of the 'drug culture'idiots which you have identified.
