Retro Break From Politics

(If you must have politics, please keep scrolling)

Mary Tyler Moore at the May 2012 SAG awards:

My personal favorite from The Mary Tyler Moore Show:

A close second on my list of favorites from the classic sit-com and possibly a scene with political implications:

  1. I had a crush on Mary Tyler Moore in the fifties. She was pretty and she was funny.

  2. "Shut up, Ted!" Is priceless.

How I long for the day when some spunky gal -- or guy -- finally gets up enough nerve to say that to Bill O'Reilly.

  3. FT,
    "Shut up, Ted!" Yes, priceless.

In all my years of teaching, I've launched two times, that is, actually lost my temper. Both of those young men straightened right up -- and stayed that way for as long as they were in my classes.

  4. Anger -- like obscene language -- can be very effective, but only if used judiciously and sparingly. ;-)

Chronic Complainers and Rage Addicts are insufferable bores.

By the way are you aware that the second video down from the top is a dud? Every time I've tried to play it a sign pops up saying "This Video Does Not Exist"

Just thought you might want to know.

  5. I remember those, ha. I didn't watch her shows on a regular basis, but I did catch many of them.

  6. FT,
Thanks for letting me know about the defunct video. I've deleted that portion of the blog post.

  7. I wonder how many of the younger people in that audience even know who she is?

If you get the chance to see Pioneering women of television on PBS it has a segment on MTM. Also, a good program overall.

  8. Duck,
Sue Ann was the character we loved to hate.

    Ted was merely a nuisance.

  9. I actually was a fan of the show, but kept it a secret, lol!
