See Obama regulating what children of farmers can do over at Right Truth.

What's next? Regulating the chores that YOUR children are assigned in your home?

  1. My parents would have violated any such regulations. Child labor in our house? Yep. And it didn't hurt any of us 4 kids, either!

  2. It's not fair that farm kids don't get to grow up fat, lazy and irresponsible like many of the city kids...

My tin hat tells me that this is more than just another nanny-state intrusion in the life of our citizens. TPTB want to eliminate the small farmers and turn everything over to Big-Agriculture.

  6. This is a two pronged attack, at least:

One, this country produces virtually nothing. This is yet another strafe against what was once known as the world's breadbasket.

There are already onerous regulations against farmers; it is often more profitable for them to take government subsidies to NOT produce! This is yet another attack!

When we cannot even produce enough wheat to feed our own citizens, then what? Whose pocket is Obama in?

Secondly, this is yet another attack on the family unit. "It takes a village," and whatnot. Who's to say that the way YOU raise your kids is right?

Do you make your child not only clean their room, but help maintain the property?!? Why, they might get a callous! Better to let Shrillary and Moooooochelle feed and care for them!

Sickening! I wonder if me telling my children to clean their rooms shall soon be too much labor for the poor little things?

  7. Well, this is alarming. Not only to the farmers- which it is, as they NEED the help- but to everyone else. At the very least, it shows the government doesn't trust parents to treat their children right- why else no allow them to do chores? And on a farm, helping out IS chores.
And before the cries that its harmful to children to work that hard, I point to my above statement. If you really believe the government is better at parenting (or knows better than parent) then I suggest trying to take care of a kid for one hour- maybe you'll see a) how hard it is and b) that no hard and fast system works.

Of course, thats hardly the point (the above was for the people who thinks this is a good idea). The point is controlling the children- for as Germany and probably others have proved, control the children (or education for that matter), control the country. Yet another in a string of plans to remove parents influence and replace it with the states. Parent makes the rules, child obeys the parent, and same for the state.

Even if this isn't the current idea, this is an easy path to go down. Like so many other test cases- the issue itself isn't the main concern, what could happen is the main issue. (And before I get a 'paranoid' card, I will point to Roe v. Wade. Ya, paranoid thinking proven right many years later. It does happen).

On a personal note, a couple years back I would have cheered this- being an immature child who didn't want to obey their parent or work. The only people who will like this are lazy, disrespectful children and those trying to control them/gain their alliance.

Haven't you heard yet that Nanny Bloomberg has BLOCKED -- now GET this -- the free distribution of food to the homeless leftover from catered affairs at Jewish Synagogues and temples, because -- now GET this -- GET IT -- the food donated contains too much fat, sugar, cholesterol and carbohydrates.

How could one receive such news and not feel as though one's head were about to explode with sheer unadulterated RAGE?

It's enough to turn every decent, educated, charitable individual into a SCREAMING MANIAC.

Why why WHY do we TOLERATE this? It MUST be STOPPED.

Must blood run like a river in the streets once again in order for it to cease?

From breaking up Occupy protests to spying on Muslim students, homeland security is targeting college kids

Campus spies. Pepper spray. SWAT teams. Twitter trackers. Biometrics. Student security consultants. Professors of homeland security studies. Welcome to Repress U, class of 2012.

Since 9/11, the homeland security state has come to campus just as it has come to America’s towns and cities, its places of work and its houses of worship, its public space and its cyberspace. But the age of (in)security had announced its arrival on campus with considerably less fanfare than elsewhere — until, that is, the “less lethal” weapons were unleashed in the fall of 2011.

Today, from the City University of New York to the University of California, students increasingly find themselves on the frontlines, not of a war on terror, but of a war on “radicalism” and “extremism.” Just about everyone from college administrators and educators to law enforcement personnel and corporate executives seems to have enlisted in this war effort.  Increasingly, American students are in their sights....

  12. I wasn't raised on a farm but I had to do chores. Children have to be taught a work ethic to keep them from growing up to be 400 pound couch blobs instead of healthy and successful in life.

Regarding Santorum and Romney, I'm faced with the same delimma this election year as every other. The guys I'd really like to see get the nomination never do and then I have to choose between the ones I didn't want and the sitting President I don't want either. At least this time around the choice is easy. Anyone except Obama.

  15. Black Sheep,

Re: Romney or Santorum vs. Obama, in that situation I'm nearly enthusiastically in support of Obama.

Particularly the promising rhetoric that Obama's second term will destroy an America that believes Mitt Romney is a conservative. Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum just won't destroy the America that believes those two are conservative fast enough.

  16. Beamish,
If you are correct, then electing Romney (Santorum doesn't stand the proverbial chance, IMO) might be a good thing as the pendulum would swing and restore conservatism to the GOP.

The matter which most concerns me about Obama is the likelihood that, if he is elected to a 2nd term, he will appoint two justices to SCOTUS. Then, we would be faced with DECADES of judicial activism.

The 2nd matter which concerns me is the coattails effect in Congress should Obama be re-elected.

I do have my doubts that Obama will be re-elected -- no matter who the GOP candidate is. We shall see in a few short months.

Familiar with the phrase "boiling the frog"?

Now, are their abusive parents? Yes. But having one's children do chores is NOT abuse. To the contrary! Children receive handyman training (and the like) and learn a good work ethic when they are responsible for chores.

I wish that my mother had assigned me the chore of fixing meals. She didn't because she loved to cook (Cooking was one of the few household chores she could do because of her heart condition). I never fixed an entire meal until I got married. One time, I actually burned my foot while cooking. Don't ask! And, of course, many a time early on in my cooking "career," dinner wasn't fit to eat and went straight into the trash.

Mom did assign me the task of doing laundry. I became an expert at it -- with a wringer washer, too.

  19. Black Sheep,
Here in my suburban neighborhood, the kids down this short street don't even walk to the bus stop. They ride via their parents' cars up this short block -- rain or shine. Twice a day, that convoy lines up -- and blocks the wheelchair ramp here. Well, they USED TO block the wheelchair ramp. One day, Mr. AOW's friend Steve reamed out these helicopter parents; they park further away now so as not to incur Steve's righteous ire.

Once home, those kids hole up inside their homes. Probably playing with their computers.

One of the kids -- he's older and always has his ears plugged into his iPod -- is morbidly obese. No wonder!

The other kids play on soccer teams, so they're not fat. Yet.

Never do I see ANY of those kids do a lick of yard work. And, of course, they never come up here to earn any money by doing any of MY yard work; I have the biggest yard in the neighborhood and need help as Mr. AOW, of course, can no longer do yard work, nor can I do yard work because of my back injury (courtesy of an illegal invader who ruined my back when he rear-ended me at a stop sign in 2005). Never do the kids on this block shovel snow, either.

These kids are cardiac and endocrine time bombs.

    NO!

While you're probably right that Santorum doesn't stand a chance because he couches his anti-libertarian / totalitarian far leftism in religious terms, both he and / or his fellow far leftist Romney will further soil and erode the "brand" of conservatism id elected President. We all cringe when we self-identify as "conservatives" and people reflexively believe that means we share commonalities with George W. Bush. Imagine under Romney "conservatism" when we're constantly going to have to correct people that we don't believe in legalizing gay marriage, or enforcing a court system's "right" to take 12 year old girls to an abortion doctor over their parent's objections, or that only federal agents should own guns, and / or that the higher paying industrial / manufacturing sector should be shut down to make way for minimum wage strip mall jobs filling orders for Chinese made office supplies for an ever growing government bureaucracy.

No, the alternative, having Obama's second term destroy the America that would consider Romney even remotely to be a "conservative" is far, far more attractive.

I, for one, will be selling my own blood plasma to raise money for Obama's re-election if either Romney or Santorum are on the GOP ticket.

The matter which most concerns me about Obama is the likelihood that, if he is elected to a 2nd term, he will appoint two justices to SCOTUS. Then, we would be faced with DECADES of judicial activism.

Or a few years of revolution. ;)

The 2nd matter which concerns me is the coattails effect in Congress should Obama be re-elected.

He ignores and circumvents Congress without impeachment anyway. What's the big deal? 535 puddles of Michelle Bachmann crocodile tears is worse than just one.

I do have my doubts that Obama will be re-elected -- no matter who the GOP candidate is. We shall see in a few short months.

I have my doubts that Obama won't be re-elected. The promising aspects that he will irrecoverably destroy America are far too enticing.

The entire political scenario is a disaster area right now.

In my view, no matter WHO is elected in November, that somebody is going to disgrace his political party -- possibly to the point of extinction. Why do I hold that opinion? Because whoever is elected in November is going to have a terrible term. I see no way out of this economic disaster other than a complete restart -- and a restart also has inherent problems as well. I think that we have reached the point of no return as there are just too many factors linking up.

I think you're completely right, kids don't get chores, you prepare them for life.
I loved to eat and my mom loved to cook so i learned to cook.I'm glad i learned to become completely independent in my life.If we ever have an argument at home it's about the fact that you don't do your kids a favor by taking everything out of their hands, you only end up rasing 'invalids' who wouldn't survive if things would get bad.
As a parent it's your duty to learn them to fend for themselves.

According to the link, the book has been quite a success in that store. Ugh.

Muslimatoon (plural of Muslima) in the West should avail themselves of the opportunity to escape abusive husbands. But do these women do so very often? Nope. For so many of them, the freedoms and personal safety we enjoy are denied to them. There are a few networks akin to the Underground Railroad, but abused women are cowed and conditioned to accept their lot in life.

When I was growing up, my first responsibility was getting my school work done to Mom's high standards, and I had at least 3 hours of homework. Next came piano practice. Therefore, most of the chores I did around the house happened on the weekends and during the summer when school was out.

In my observation, today's children spend time in front of a screen and do very little around the house. Yes, they are not learning to be independent.

Through college, too, to the tune of $30,000+ tuition!

Not long ago, I was dismayed to learn from one of our homeschooled graduates of 2011 that the college he is attending is nothing but a drinking party! He cannot believe what he's seeing most of the time all over the campus: students puking all the time, having blackouts, skipping classes for weeks on end, etc. And not from drinking beer, either. Hard liquor!

This young man of whom I'm speaking is a serious student who doesn't imbibe and is thinking about trying to find another college to attend.

Yes, partying in college has a long tradition. But from what I'm hearing from recent graduates, the problem is so much worse now.

Just think....In a few short years, these do-nothing students will be unleashed on society. Sheesh.

  38. I do find it ironic, having lived not far from the Kirkwood City Hall that Cookie Thornton (a black businessman) gunned down most of the all white (and all Democrat) city council and administration after the white town annexed the mostly black unincorporated area (Meacham Park) and began beseiging the mostly poor residents there with all many of city ordinances and fines. Cookie - he was an acquaintance enough to address by his nickname to most anyone - was ticketed repeatedly, even up to 3 times a day for parking his work vehicles (asphalt trucks and painter's vans) ON HIS OWN HOME DRIVEWAY. Kirkwood's intrusive government imposed on a neighborhood where it never applied before, and heavy-handedly meted it out.

I think it reasonable someone would snap under that situation, no matter how much melanin they have in their skin. I'm not justifying a shooting rampage that killed oppressive white Democrat pushy busybodies, but I'm not going to pretend to be shocked that it eventually happened.

And will happen again somewhere else, I'm sure. Never met anyone that enjoyed being pushed around.

I guess the lesson is that it's racially motivated if a black thug is gunned down by a neighborhood watch patroller in self-defense, but not racially motivated if a black man Swiss-cheeses City Hall if the all white city administration targets his business and livelihood for harassment and attrition.

Or maybe there's no lesson. Cookie Thornton could have, after all, sold his vehicles, paid off his thousands of dollars of fines, built a lucrative drug dealership and never have been harassed in his own home again.

That damned fool wanted to be a productive member of society.

On ABC News last night, Zimmerman's attorney and a black friend of Zimmerman's were interviewed. According to what I heard, Zimmerman suffered a broken nose and an injury to the back of his head.

The implication was the Trayvon Martin jumped Zimmerman from behind.

In any case, both the attorney and the friend maintained that the shooting of Trayvon Martin was a clear case of self-defense.

Just now on the news, I heard Jesse Jackson say that Martin was shot in the back of the head. First time I've heard that one.

  40. I do not know enough about the Florida situation to comment directly so nothing I am about to say condones the tragedy.

Jesse Jackson and folks like him have marching orders to create chaos. They derive income from hate mongering. They are a useful tool for what is likely to happen next.

The economy is broken. Obama and Co took a bad situation and ran up the debt twice as fast as under Bush Jr. Almost all State and Local municipalities are also broke....translation less police per thousand people in a given city even after adjusting for reverse migration. Even more important less jails and less court time..result Fear

Fear because criminals are allowed to walk even after being arrested 6-7 heck probably 10 times or more.

This is eventually for the left because one must be in fear of their neighbors.

The economy is not in recovery. The only people benefitting from this economy is the rich. Translation more property crime with less punishment.

Gun sales are up. Why because people are afraid but also because they refuse to lie down and be victims....

Now you have the proper context sort of...

This set of variables once in place means eventually someone is going to killed under questionable circumstances...

Enter the agitators like Jesse Jackosn, Farracan etc etc

The result---we take another step toward rioting in America....

and coincidentally a new executive order was just signed to handle civil unrest...

Now go back to the beginning of the Obama regime and consider that ever action and every word was spoken to create division not unity as advertised...

They were just waiting for this to unfold...

  43. I think there's another thing that is sobering.

Crime statistics are down nationally, but the rate of cops getting gunned down is on the rise.

Perhaps with less crime to deal with (especially with the Three Strikes law putting away career criminals) cops trying to justify their existence as a taxpayer expense are starting to push people that should be well left alone.

    ReplyDelete

Trayvon Martin was shot in the chest.

    Surely, Jesse Jackson knows that!

What's he up to? Taking control of the narrative to promote race riots?

    ReplyDelete
  45. The statement on crime stats is a little broad. There are many different types of crime and some are more sensitive to economic changes than others...

A brief read of the story reveals that the crime wave where the shooter lives appears to be the same as in the medium city I live near.

The description reads almost the same as people are very concerned about property crimes as more and more people are having their possessions removed while they are at work.

Crimes like vehicle theft are way down over the last decade...probably due to the rise in GPS devices in cars.

Rape and murder also seem to be down.

But I would suggest a more detailed analysis of the crime status would reveal an increase in property crime likely caused by the depressed economy that leaves many young men unemployed and walking around neighborhoods looking in windows for flat screen tvs and monitors to steal to make money.

    ReplyDelete
