Lessons To Draw From Jared Lee Loughner (Video Update)

From Investor's Business Daily (Click directly on the image to enlarge it):

More truth that the mainstream media and other leftist loons will choose to ignore, no doubt.

Video update (hat tip to Mike's America):

  1. Palin looked so scripted in her response she put the nail in the coffin for me. She just another politician doing "colaterol damage control" to try and save whats left of wannabee political career.

As far as this guy is concerned - he is mentally ill. Do we call all mentally ill evil - yes and no. This guy's illness culmunated into evil because as we know it is hard for parents to institutionalize an adult who is mentally ill. I know this due to my daughter with schizophrenia. It is heartbreaking for me. I truly feel not only for the victims and their family, but this man's family. They tried over and over to put him in an institution but our laws protected his rights. When will America get it and wake-up?

Falling for a politicians fancy words of sollace to clean up their act - heh! Don't get me going.

She reminds me of Ted Kennedy back in the day!

  2. Stop by Drudge. Now the CBS, NBC, ABC are all whining that she's being a victim or is "ignorant"

  3. The left knew full well that Palin and the right were innocent of their accusations. So why did they make it? To demonize and scapegoat their political enemies and the fact that they used the corpses of the slain to do it speaks volumes about the absolute lack of character of the left. Despicable? Absolutely, but with the left the ends justify any means. We would do well to remember that aspect of their behavior.

  4. And we need to remind them of this at every turn. In fact before they even start i think.

Otherwise the left will use the opportunity to strip the rights of decent, peaceful and law-abiding people.

They [Jared Lee Loughner's family] tried over and over to put him in an institution but our laws protected his rights.

I hadn't heard that they tried to confine their son. It is my understanding that Arizona has mental-health laws with more latitude regarding requesting help. Here in Virginia, requesting such help is much more difficult.

Did anyone report to any agency that Loughner was having mental issues?

    According to this source:

Sheriff's Department and community-college officials in Pima County are refusing to release a wide range of public documents about the man charged in Saturday's shooting rampage that left six dead and more than a dozen wounded.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department and
Pima Community College have declined to release documents that could shed light on run-ins they had with 22-year-old Jared Loughner in the months prior to the shooting.

    [...]

The Arizona Republic requested that records, including incident reports on campus and calls for dispatch of deputies to Loughner's home, be released under the law. Such reports are often released as a matter of course in criminal cases.

Jared Lee Loughner was "on the radar," but apparently not enough on the radar to get him reined in.

  6. From Obama's speech last night:

The loss of these wonderful people should make every one of us strive to be better in our private lives – to be better friends and neighbors, co-workers and parents. And if, as has been discussed in recent days, their deaths help usher in more civility in our public discourse, let’s remember that it is not because a simple lack of civility caused this tragedy – it did not – ...

    source [Front Page Magazine]

According to the commentary in the article:

Interestingly, the three words underlined in the paragraph above – “it did not” – were not included in the prepared text issued to the media, but were uttered by the president during his speech. The inclusion of these three words suggests that the president, or his team – or both – eventually realized that it was very important to emphasize that the madness that drove Jared Lee Loughner to kill six people and wound thirteen more had nothing to do with politics.

  7. Another lesson that we're going to see applied as a result of Loughner's egregious deeds:

"A lie told often enough becomes truth."

As far as I can tell, the Left's agenda will advance because the Left is out ahead in this particular propaganda war. I hope I'm proved wrong about this!

  8. Talk about surreal and egregious!

    From this source:

Stephen Hayes at The Weekly Standard points to a fundraising letter sent out by Sen. Bernie Sanders, Democratic Socialist of Vermont, that uses the Tucson shootings in a pitch for political contributions to help fight off ”the Republican Party, big money corporate interests and right-wing organizations.”...

The words "poor taste" don't begin to describe how disgusting the above is.

As I said in my post below this one, the post entitled "This Way Lies Madness."

  9. Excellent post! I just completed a similar one based of last night's speech.
For the past few days, I have been posting about this with other Conservative Posters, and the lefty/Progressive bloggers have been calling ME crazy for the posts I wrote until it came out that this LUNATIC had NO political beliefs but was a LUNATIC and nothing else but a LUNATIC .
And the sheriff that thinks he is a political genius is nothing more than a phoney, fraud and a fake as well. Some Sleuth, he even failed to mention the fact that he himself had made over 10 visits to the Shooters home for Drug and Violence reasons. How come these Leftist idiots are so swift to either change or omit the facts when they are guilty. Why wasn’t there any mention of this sheriff’s ineptness, incompetence, and negligence off omitting facts? ...He sure knew how to put the blaming on people who were completely innocent , and somehow forgot to mention that the lunatic shooter had NO political persuasion

  10. Layla: I am sorry you felt Palin's response was so scripted. But I can imagine that had she said nothing at all she would be criticized for that. She was forced to speak out because of the blood libel (and that IS the correct phrase to use)waged against her.

And I too would like to know where you got this information: " this man's family. They tried over and over to put him in an institution."

In all the news stories I have read on this subject I have not seen anything to suggest that.

Unfortunately, all the attempts to blame Palin, or criticize her for speaking out, obscure the REAL problem which is how to deal with adults with schizophrenia. I am sorry you have that experience but you are correct in pointing out that it is extremely difficult to get care for those afflicted with this horrible, life changing disease.

It's sad that people are pointing fingers at the right, suggesting new gun laws (why was Loughner able to buy a gun if people were so aware of his condition?) and curbs on political speech. NONE of these remedies will do ANYTHING to fix the real problem of treating mental illness.

Rather than blame or criticize Palin or propose stupid laws, we need to have a serious discussion about the state of mental health care in this country.

Using this tragedy to advance a political agenda only means that the tragedy is likely to be repeated.

  11. No matter what Palin says, she is going to be lambasted for it by many in the media. That's why I advise her to continue to speak out.

I heard Joe Scarborough of MSNBC describe her language as reckless in response to the latest video. I don't remember Joe being very supportive of Palin when in October some nut hung an effigy of her outside his house for Halloween.

The civil discourse debate must never be allowed to be used as an excuse to censor one side of the political aisle.

  12. I hate to be a wet blanket but I found Palins remarks to be weak and actually unbecoming of her usual demeanor.
She is finished as far as a serious candidate for President goes and those who would continue to support such an effort will be the cause and the blame of another four years of Obama if she should get the nomination.

Has anyone noted that Herman Cain has announced his intentions for running for POTUS. A most qualified individual IMHO and put Congresswoman Bachmann as his running mate and all hell would break loose on the left. At this point it is ANYONE but Palin. If you are offended , good, think about it first and then get back to me.

I am a conservative , Constitutionalists, Independent as anyone who has read my blog can attest to. I call it as I see it and if I step on toes of the ultra right then I am thrilled, hoping that they will eventually wake up and realize that they don't reside on a separate plain or planet than the rest of us. I know I step on the leftist toes as is shown by their lack of comments . They know that their BS will be refuted immediately but not deleted. I leave it for all to see.

  13. Ticker, although I kind of liked the blood libel bit, overall I thought her response was lacking.

I agree, she's done as a serious contender. But then, even though I like her, I haven't thought for awhile that she had a real chance.

  14. Ticker,
I hate to be a wet blanket...

No need to apologize! Discussion is welcome here.

  15. I think that cartoon said it all, AOW. I thought at first that the Left was just delusional, but they are actually doing this on purpose. Blood libel is exactly what it is.

And I agree with Ticker... I LIKE Sarah Palin, but imo she's not presidential material. She'd be a great senator or congresswoman though.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Sarah Palin should have responded to the left's blood libels by posting a picture of Paul Krugman on her Facebook page with crosshairs between his eyes, to test the theory that it would cause another leftist like Jared Loughner to shoot him.

  17. Again for the Palin supporters (shudder). If the bimbo had enough sense to simply say she's been too strident and she'd tone it down she could have had the nomination.

Luckily for the nation she showed her utter stupidity.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Duck,
An admission of being too strident would had led to a myriad of civil suits.

And I hate to say this, but I do expect civil suits to be filed. Already, one of the wounded victims has opined that the Tea Party Movement, Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, etc., are to blame for the shootings.

On the other side of the coin, we have THIS from Mark Levin:

Radio Host Mark Levin To MSNBC: ‘I’m Going To Drag Your Asses To Federal Court.

    ReplyDelete
  19. and there in lies the truth....

Liberals just want to silence the Tea Party , Sarah Palin, and others by any means.

"if she had just admitted to be too strident"

For those that read more than the sides of cereal boxes, we know te history of politics in the United States can only be described as STRIDENT debate. Thank God for such strident debate.

  20. I heard something today that ABC or CBS had done a story in the past where they had reported this guy threatened the leader of the Tea Party. Oops I guess they forgot about that report...An oversight I am sure...

I also love the editorial from the ombudsman of the New York Times I think it was. In his editorial he said that these young journalists sometimes makes mistakes because they are "taught" in college a certain way to "frame" stories...translation the journalism schools are bought and paid for by liberals and the concept of actually reporting who what where when is gone.....

    ReplyDelete
  21. Blogginator,
the concept of actually reporting who what where when is gone.....

Interesting that you should mention that!

One of my homeschool parents is a trained journalist (old school). Just yesterday and today, she and I were talking about the deterioration of the inverted pyramid as journalistic style. One can be halfway through a long article before finding out any of the salient points.

This homeschool parent will be doing a proper journalistic style module with my middle school students next week and the following week. Yes, we'll be swimming upstream against today's "journalistic" style, which really is a form of editorialization.

As for ABC and CBS, well, they do have their agenda and are not reliable for "the rest of the story."

  22. My father used to say, "A lot of crazy people don't hurt anyone else."

Sometimes. however, the mentally ill devolve into deranged killers. Not often, but it happens.
