The Left's grasping of opportunism is mind-boggling (first example below the fold) and disgusting (second example below the fold).
From Jonathan Alter's essay in Newsweek (hat tip to Weasel Zippers):
Can Obama Turn Tragedy Into Triumph? Some biographical information about Jonathan Alter, author of the above-cited essay, is HERE.
Saturday’s shooting spree could prove a turning point in the Obama presidency. How the White House should talk about the tragedy.
...This horrific event offers the president a chance to show leadership qualities that he’s inexplicably hidden away in some blind trust. The shootings and the resulting debate over the climate of incivility play to his strengths as a calm and rational leader. Just as Bill Clinton’s response to the 1995 Oklahoma City bombings helped him recover from his defeat in the 1994 midterms, so this episode may help Obama change—at least in the short term--the trajectory of American politics.
[...]
Whether or not he attends the funerals for the Tucson victims, Obama’s big chance to lead will come in his State of the Union address on January 25. He can both to speak to the moment thematically and confront the substantive concerns raised by the tragedy....
And more lunacy — or downright evil, if you prefer that term! Westboro Baptist Church (so-called church but really a hate group led by Democrat Fred Phelps) plans to picket the funeral of Christina Taylor Green, the youngest shooting victim of Saturday's murderous shooting spree in Tucson:
Christina Taylor Greene

But for downright insanity and meanness, the Left cannot be outdone.

The left has turned into a party of bottom feeders. It used to be just a portion of them, now pretty much all......
ReplyDeleteMy God, that man is an idiot. And they say conservatives are mean and hateful? As you said, we can all sometimes be very shrill, but we have nothing on Fred Phelps. I made about 30 seconds into the video before I had to turn it off. Disgusted doesn't even cover how it made me feel.
ReplyDeleteThe left is just EVIL, there's no other way to describe them.
ReplyDeleteLD Jackson,
ReplyDeleteI, too, couldn't watch the entire video.
Fred Phelps is evil.
The left trying to leverage success from tragedy is bad enough, but Fred Phelps and his gang are downright sickening.
ReplyDeleteMaybe on the way there their bus will slide of the interstate in a snowstorom ...
... But now I'm being un-Christian...
Mark Penn back in November said what Obama needed another Oklahoma City bombing so he could re-connect with the people. It is stunning. I think the left knows its power is sliding, and it is like a small child having a temper tantrum. They thought they had it all.Now he goes to AZ, when he wouldn't go before. Too much.
ReplyDeleteBunkerville,
ReplyDeleteI think the left knows its power is sliding, and it is like a small child having a temper tantrum.
I agree with that assessment.
I've always thought that Jonathan Alter is second behind Eleanor Clift for sheer stupidity.
ReplyDeleteTo his credit though, he is not nearly the only one on the left saying this.
I hope that any who stop by here will take time to read this essay by Tammy Swofford: "The State of Our National Character."
ReplyDeleteI could not agree more with Silverfiddle.
ReplyDeleteThat is all I will say, because if I go any farther it will get pretty blue.
Meet the calumnies head-on in your blogs, your e-mails, & letters to the editor. These dishonorable left-wing poltroons cannot be allowed to exploit a tragedy in order to silence their opposition & enact even more of their socialist agenda.
ReplyDeleteAh, even Westboro is "left", AOW?
ReplyDeleteDo you really think that kind of thinking plays outside the fringe?
It's all "the left".
What's very clear here is that the right is really circling the wagons to pretend they haven't been generating a pretty toxic charged environment where order does have the potential to break down. The right, always unable to take responsibility.
Hey duckass, when is the left going to take responsibility for these "toxic" words or is ok since according to you and the rest of the leftist idiots they are "Words, just Words" (words from the mouth of your fearless leader)
ReplyDeleteThey Bring a Knife…We Bring a Gun”
“Get in Their Faces!”
“I don’t want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry! I’m angry!”
“Hit Back Twice As Hard”
“We talk to these folks… so I know whose a-- to kick.“
"Republican victory would mean “hand to hand combat”
“It’s time to Fight for it.”
“Punish your enemies.”
“I’m itching for a fight.”
And how about 10 years worth of "toxic" words.

Get your head out of your ass duck and realize that you are the laughing stock of these blogs.
You leftist NEVER take responsibility for anything PERIOD, unless it is forwarding the socialist agenda.
Ah, even Westboro is "left", AOW?
ReplyDeleteDo you really think that kind of thinking plays outside the fringe?
He's a Democrat Duck,

http://www.examiner.com/libertarian-in-national/westboro-baptist-church-to-picket-funeral-of-9-year-old-tucson-shooting-victim
You have to understand AOW, the Duck is so far left he thinks Obama is a centrist.
Now AOW that I have shown my disdain for the DUCK on to Fred Phelps and his incestuous clan.
ReplyDeleteI personally don't think that the Phelps clan can be placed on the right or the left. They are so far gone that they have a space all of their own that is beyond description.
One day they will meet their
Maker and what a day that will be. Hell has a special spot for these vile creatures.
Chuck, Duck doesn't think, no leftwing liberal ever thinks, they only "FEEL". Thinking is beyond their capabilities. It's all a part of the
ReplyDeleteliberal psychopathology.
I agree with Bob Mack, but now here is an interesting exercise. In my post yesterday, I linked to a blog post by James Rosen at Fox News. It is instructive to read his article, but also read some of the comments from the left … it makes one wonder if the leftist poltroons are in another universe.
ReplyDeleteWas that a Duck that just flew by here? Ah well.
ReplyDeleteFred Phelps is evil. My dad who was a deacon in the Baptist Church had Phelps pegged back in 1990, saying there was nothing "Christian" or "Baptist" about him. We lived in an area where Phelps made the local news quite a bit. He hadn't made the nationals yet.
Guys like Phelps and Loughner get so far out, so disconnected from reality and unable to converse with folks, that you really can't pin political labels on them like Dem or Repub or even liberal and conservative. They are their own special breed and dispensation.
Strange, my comments don't seem to be posting.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Silverfiddle re the Westboro "Baptist"bigots. What horrible people.
No matter what Rahm Emanuel said today, this is an opportunity Dems do not plan to waste.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Jonathan Alter's reputation can sink any lower than it was before these assassinations. How can anyone take Newsweek seriously with this man on their editorial staff?
I did, however, like this comment from him:
"a chance to show leadership qualities that he’s inexplicably hidden away in some blind trust."
Alter still hasn't learned Obama has no leadership skills and never has, except for organizing low-income women.
humph, another example of the fact the media doesn't have a brain. lets hope the general populatrion do (wait, they elected obama. nevermind)
ReplyDeleteand fred phelp and co., go to hel and stay there. or should i say go back?
as for the vidio, 44 seconds and i turned it off. utterly sickening.
great quotes Ticker...
ReplyDeleteDuck we dont have to circle the wagons... we did nt create this monster in Arizona. If anything he was a Democrat. He did get a letter from her in 2007 thanking him for his help with an event. If anything like alot of democrats he was crushed to discover the pack of lies of this tryranical regime.
I mean seriously how many 22 year single guys who like heavy metal do you think are also listening to Rush Limbaugh, attending Glen Beck rallies, watch Foxnews and still making time to attend a Demo town hall??? I thinking zero.
Bill Clinton may have goten a bounce from trageby but it all comes back to the economy and this one is in the dumper.
Obama will do what is good at...reading words off a teleprompter................
According to this, other groups will be countering WBB at WBB's protests at the funerals of those who died in Tucson.
ReplyDeleteWill these funerals, which should be a time for the families of the victims to mourn, turn into displays of violence?
On the other hand, I can't imagine just sitting back and letting WBB desecrate these funerals.
As one who has buried most of her family, I cannot imagine how awful these funerals will be -- all because of the evil wackos of WBB!
Ticker makes the following point:
ReplyDeleteI personally don't think that the Phelps clan can be placed on the right or the left.....
WBB does defy description.
According to Wikipedia, Westboro Baptist Church does have an array of legal difficulties:
ReplyDeleteOn March 8, 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court granted certiorari in Snyder v. Phelps, (Docket No. 09-751, March 8, 2010). On May 28, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, joined by 42 other Senators, filed an amicus brief in support of Snyder with the Supreme Court. On June 1, Kansas Attorney General Stephen Six filed a separate brief supporting Snyder. This brief was joined by the Attorneys General of 47 other states and the District of Columbia, with Maine and Virginia being the two exceptions.
The case is yet another case of the First Amendment rights to freedom of speech and freedom of assembly. I believe that the case will go to the United States Supreme Court, but the court doesn't have to hear the case.
Blogginator,
ReplyDeleteObama will do what is good at...reading words off a teleprompter................
He'll have to do a lot of rehearsing to cover up his lack of empathy. Even liberal columnist Richard Cohen has previously pointed out one of BHO's major character flaws, namely, BHO's lack of heartfelt empathy.
Not a surprise, really.
ReplyDeleteCAIR has weighed in on the Tucson shootings:
"...We must come together as a nation to mourn the dead, pray for the speedy recovery of the injured and reject the extreme partisanship and inflammatory political rhetoric that can contribute to such tragedies."
More at the above link.
At the heart of the Left's allegations is their long-held desire to censor opposing opinion. This tragedy only underscores just how ruthless and relentless they are in attacking our freedoms, using any pretense that is convenient and available.
ReplyDeleteABC News just interviewed his best friend. Says Loughner did not watch TV, disliked the news and he did not listen to talk radio. He wasn't Left or Right and "he wasn't shooting at people, he was shooting at the world."
ReplyDeleteSo the lies of the Left continues to be exposed and melt away. But they don't let a simple matter like truth slow them down. As I am writing this, even more Dems are coming out , echoing the talking points that it is the fault of Palin, Tea Party & Conservatives.
They don't care about the truth or the suffering families. They only care about their agenda and vision, no matter what it takes. This is a war for soul of America, and the Left has declared it. (Oh gee, was that hateful rhetoric on my part? )
I just got home from work, did a bit of surfing on the web, and found THIS INSANITY from Hillary Clinton:
ReplyDeleteThe attempted assassination of Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was apparently motivated by her assailant’s political views, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Wednesday, calling the lawmaker’s shooting “a form of extremism.”
Clinton said she believed the man accused of gravely wounding Giffords, Jared Lee Loughner, crossed the line from expressing an opinion to violent action, which she called a “hallmark” of extremist behavior.
She said it didn’t matter whether Loughner was a liberal, conservative or an al-Qaida operative.
Next, she'll be ascribing extremist motives to Ed Gein, I suppose. **snerk**
Hilary's statement just proves Goebbels was right: if you tell the big lie often enough, people will start believing it. Everyone else is learning what a sham these accusations are. But the Dem Pols are so busy stoking each and repeating the same canards, they don't know what's been revealed about Loughner, and that we have found it out.
ReplyDeleteOn Monday, O'Reilly said the Pols would start backing it down when they figured they went too far. Today, they have not abated and in fact, they have ratcheted up their accusation. Even new Pols have jumped in the accusation act. This is a full court press folks - They are going for broke. Truth means nothing to these people, even when their lie is so painfully and publicly obvious.
"What's very clear here is that the right is really circling the wagons...."
ReplyDeleteYou'd like us to just stand and bear the brunt of your smears, lies, bigotry and hatred wouldn't you, sorry chump we won't sit around and smile while your fascist, totalitarian kind persecute us out of daring to utter or do anything.
Better luck cramming your soft-fascist agenda down unwilling throats next time son. We ain't bending over without a fight.
What a sniveling hypocrite ducky is, after flinging baseless and utterly unsubstantiated accusations at and condemning the right in the harshest manner, he accuses them of defending themselves and being unable to take responsibility.
ReplyDeleteTo borrow from ducky's logic, let's accuse him of being a child molester and then tut-tut when he squirms over to defend himself. Don't you dare circle the wagons hypocrite.
All you need to do to shut leftist potential psycho killer Ducky is remind him of when he called into AOW's blog talk radio show to threaten Andrew Breitbart's life.
