What Is Ramadan?

(Much of this blog post was previously published in 2011 and 2015)

Ramadan 2019 began at sunset on May 6 and continues for 30 days until June 5.

What does Ramadan really celebrate, particularly Eid ul-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan?

If one understands the history of Islam and, especially, that of Ramadan, one will come to understand that such a commemoration, including iftar dinners at the White House, should be unacceptable to all those who oppose Islamic supremacism.

Ramadan involves more than prayers, fasting, and the giving of alms — all of which are part of the month long observance but which are also the outward signs of another message. By literal definition, of course, Ramadan commemorates Allah's "revealing" the Qur'an to Muhammad. But history clearly indicates that the "revelations" from Allah to Muhammad began around 610, some fourteen years earlier than 624.

Those earlier passages, sometimes referred to as the Meccan verses, are the oft-quoted peaceful verses in the Koran. Contrary to what one might expect, however, the last day of Ramadan does not celebrate the actual date of the earliest peaceful "revelations" of Allah to Muhammad but rather the Battle of Badr, the first significant military victory by the forces of Muhammad.

The Battle of Badr of March 17, 624, is one of the few military conflicts specifically mentioned in the Qur'an and holds a great deal of significance in Islam. Eid ul-Fitr, the final portion of Ramadan, has as its origin the aforementioned battle. Furthermore and most importantly, this battle marked the turning point for Islam, both politically and ideologically.

Having earlier fled to Medina along with followers who accepted him as their prophet whereas most of the tribes of Mecca did not, early on that morning in 624 Muhammad got word that a rich Quraish caravan from Syria was returning to Mecca. He therefore assembled the largest army he had ever been able to muster, some 300 men, with the original intent of raiding the caravan. After his men successfully overtook the caravan and brought back the booty, Muhammad then conveniently received a new "revelation" from Allah — a "revelation" which not only included rejoicing in having captured an enemy's caravan but which also called "proved" that Muhammad had been preaching the true way all along. Fulfilling Destiny, Muhammad and his forces proceeded to trounce the Quraish as punishment for having earlier rejected the prophet's teachings. From this source:
In the name of Allah, the Beneficient, the Merciful.

The battle of Badr was the most important among the Islamic battles of Destiny. For the first time the followers of the new faith were put into a serious test. Had victory been the lot of the pagan army while the Islamic Forces were still at the beginning of their developments, the faith of Islam could have come to an end.

No one was aware of the importance of the outcome of the Battle as the Prophet (S.A.W.) himself. We might read the depth of his anxiety in his prayer before the beginning of the Battle when he stood up supplicating his Lord:

God this is Quraish. It has come with all its arrogance and boastfulness, trying to discredit Thy Apostle. God, I ask Thee to humiliate them tomorrow. God, if this Muslim band will perish today, Thou shall not be worshipped.
[...]

This battle laid the foundation of the Islamic State...
In other words, victory at the Battle of Badr proved to Muhammad and his adherents that Islam should from that time forth take on a militant aspect because such is the will of Allah. From the day of the Battle of Badr on, the tone of the verses in the Qur'an changed. These more recent "revelations," sometimes referred to as the Medinan verses, abrogated the earlier and peaceful Meccan ones. Because preaching and tolerance had not brought Muhammad the following which he needed in order to establish himself and Islam as political forces to be reckoned with, Allah, via a military victory, showed the prophet a more effective way to spread Islam. Therefore, Muhammad's victory at the Battle of Badr symbolizes both the way to bring about the will of Allah and the will of Allah itself.

It is no coincidence that in 2011 the Taliban bestowed the name "Badr" upon their spring offensive.

In sum, Ramadan is, in and of itself, a statement advocating submission to Islam and to the will of Allah. Ah, the dhimmitude and submission of all Western leaders when they send Ramadan greetings to the Islamic world!

  2. In essence, at their very core, ALL organized religions have always been about power and control over their flocks. Like political power brokers the strong survive. The weak just get eaten up and spit out.

  3. I think it is true that all religions are authoritarian by their nature. Probably the least of these is Buddhism which simply counsels how to achieve nirvana; getting there is not the monk’s problem. Similarly, Christianity teaches that one of God’s blessings is free will. We can choose our own path, with the understanding that our decisions will have consequences. There is nothing similar to this in Islam. Do what the Imam tells you or die a nasty death. To hell with that.

    1. Actually, the Islamic idea of free will is very similar to Christianity's.

God, being omniscient, knows an individual's fate but that fate is the culmination of acts of free will.
It's kinder than the Calvinist strain of Protestantism.

The idea of actions having consequences (karma) was developed much fuller and earlier in Hinduism.

Is the status of women better in Western nations? Yes.
Is this due to conservative Christian efforts? No.

Conservate Protestants believe the wife is subservient to the husband and often go so far as opposing even birth control. The status of women in the west has largely been improved by leftist secular movements.

Religious doctrine is often compromised by cultural custom whether christian or muslim.

    5. Muslim women who don the chador or the other variations will claim that they're actually more liberated because they're not slaves to (often ridiculous) western fashion norms. I'm not sure that I buy that....but it has a certain truth underneath.

That is a very small minority among conservative Protestants whom I personally know. Conservative Protestantism has "evolved" over the past century or so.

'American Taliban' Lindh Released as Afghan War Still Boils

Washington (AFP) - John Walker Lindh, the US Muslim convert who came to be known as the "American Taliban" after being captured while fighting in Afghanistan in 2001, was released Thursday after serving 17 years in a federal prison.
The US Bureau of Prisons confirmed his early morning release from the federal high security prison in Terre Haute, Indiana.

His lawyer Bill Cummings told CNN that 38-year-old Lindh, suspected by some of still harboring radical Islamic views, will settle in Virginia under strict probation terms that limit his ability to go online or contact other Islamists.

Known as "Detainee 001" in the US War on Terror, Lindh's early release on an original 20-year sentence has resurrected memories of the September 11 attacks, when he became for many Americans one of the faces of the jihadist threat against the United States.

But his release also underscores that, almost two decades later, the US remains mired in a fight with the Taliban with no end in sight.

Other than that he will settle in Virginia, the state abutting the US capital Washington, there was no information about Lindh's plans.

His family, which lives near San Francisco, California, has not recently commented on his case and could not immediately be contacted Thursday.

His release comes amid concerns that he may not have abandoned support for hardline Islamic thinking while incarcerated.

In a letter this week to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, two senators asked how his alleged threat would be contained, citing unproven allegations that he "openly" supports extremist violence.

Furthermore, if you are addressing Franco, remember that the man is around 78 years old. Do you expect him to enlist in the military? Run for public office?

Or perhaps you are addressing me? In which case, I do one helluva lot to get the word out about Islam -- way beyond blogging, too.

Calling out the "final solution" isn't being nasty....it's being human.

If the rightful action is "war' or some other armchair exhortation.....when this issue is clearly so.

If Islam is everything FT says that it is....and the "only" solution is what he exhorts....then he's certainly not too old to to take action and set the example.

Unless he really doesn't believe what he writes.....

    8. Interesting to note what you've taken issue with here. Do you support notions of a "Final Solution" as well?

      Delete
    9. CI,
Not necessarily. But the more the West placates Islam and obfuscates what Islamic doctrines are, the greater the possibility of a final solution or perish. The historical record of Islam doesn't bode well.

      Delete
    10. A "final solution" isn't necessary to fix our problem with Islam. In the first instance, no one should be allowed to migrate to the US who lacks the skills needed to support our economy. Second, no one lacking compatible values need apply. Placing Sharia Law above the Constitution would be one example of this. Third, we need to stop meddling in the Middle East. There is no "national interest" in taking sides with one group of barbarians over another. In effect, why should any American care whether these people destroy each other. What we should care about is DEFENDING the United States and its people. Anything beyond that is wasteful of time, money, and precious lives. Let Iran and the Saudis solve their own problems. Our response to any attack on American lives or property should be just this: devastating.

      Delete
    11. Mustang nailed it. And without genocide....

      Delete
    12. Point of clarification: the way I was using final solution wasn't the one involving genocide. I should have said solution instead of final solution, which in today's lexicon is often synonymous with genocide.

      BUT

The way that the West is going could well lead to two choices: genocide or perish.

Again, I emphasize that the history of Islam doesn't bode well. Once Islam gains a big enough toehold in a Western country, that country plays hell trying to control the situation.

I am very concerned that shari'a is making so many inroads in the West -- including here in the United States. Didn't I read something about Muslim Car Patrols in NYC?

Well, I just hope that your daughters don't have an experience similar to two of my homeschool graduates...

      S. was wearing a crop top and Daisy May shorts while pumping gas at a Costco here in Northern Virginia (Herndon). Along came a Muslim to rail at her about how she was dressed "like a whore." It was so bad that she feared for her personal safety; fortunately, another customer at the Costco gas pumps intervened.

Another homeschooler was fondled by a Pakistani fellow worker at a high-end restaurant in Leesbug. He kept telling her that he was going to take her back to Pakistan with him. He was about 35 years of age, and my former student was about 19. She went to the manager, and he said "cultural differences." She quit the job.

Other incidents about which I have personal knowledge....

Two of my young family members were sexually accosted in the halls of their high school in Fairfax City by a group of Pakistani boys. Mom, a widow, went to the principal and was told that they needed to "respect cultural differences." She put the house on the market and moved to Texas -- with four minor girls.

Fundamental Islam allows males to do the above things -- particularly to infidel females.

POISONED to DEATH with CHEMOTHERAPY -–

BURNED to DEATH with RADIATION ––

or CUT OUT SURGICALLY and DISPOSED of as the HAZARDOUS WASTE it is.

Anyone who does not believe this is an IMBECILE.

CANCER cannot be dealt with DIPLOMATICALLY.

CANCER cannot be REASONED out of EXISTENCE, it must be PHYSICALLY DESTROYED.

The morons who do not believe this, and would self-righteously defend the indefensible sit IMMERSED, HAMSTRUNG, and DROWNING in MYRIAD bits of DATA, as always, instead of getting to the ROOT, DIGGING it OUT, and BURN ING it.

Any attempt to be "REASONABLE" about the dire THREAT ISLAM poses to DECENT PEOPLE everywhere in the WORLD is a complete WASTE of TIME and ENERGY.

When it is clearly a KILL or BE KILLED situation, only a FOOL would FAIL to mount as strong and vicious a COUNTERATTACK as may be mustered.

If the WEST is to SURVIVE, __ I-S-L-A-M __ M-U-S-T __ D-I-E.

And the mush-brained APOLOGISTS for ISLAM must be OSTRACIZED and EXILED.
