We have zero Kaiser hospitals here, and what Kaiser has just done will force a lot of people to go out of network because, now, only 4 hospitals here are in the Kaiser network.

What happens with networks is exceedingly important! There are times when a person's need for medical care requires that a person step out of the network and shell out. I had that experience myself when the best neurologist for my unusual injury was not in my network (BlueCross BlueShield).

Liberalmann also opined: There is nothing stopping an individual from signing up directly with an insurance company that has plans that have these hospitals in their networks.

Yes, there is something that prevents a person from signing up for a particular network. The cost of the policy! Many of the policies offered by the ObamaCare web site are subsidized; sign up for policies by another method, and those subsidies may not be available at all.Always On Watchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08192688822955022541noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4320479736034351430.post-20926011463710218332013-11-02T00:44:33.494-05:002013-11-02T00:44:33.494-05:00Sam, Marine,

These hospitals h...The headline is very misleading. These hospitals have not opted out of the ACA. All private insurance plans now have to meet ACA standards. The fact that some plans that are available on the exchanges don't have these hospitals in their networks is a cost issue, and providers on the exchanges are looking to offer low-cost options as well as high-cost options. There is nothing stopping an individual from signing up directly with an insurance company that has plans that have these hospitals in their networks. These "top hospitals" are not necessarily the best, just the most expensive. For example, Kaiser-Permanente hospitals here in CA rate just as high as Cedars-Sinai in many areas, and KP plans definitely are available on the Covered California exchange.

I can't get past that this article is written by someone who doesn't understand insurance. Hospitals don't have insurance companies in their networks. Insurance companies contract with hospitals. If hospitals are worried that they are not participating providers in an insurance plan offered on the exchanges, then they need to contact the insurance company and negotiate a contract. As it is now, you have a big bill if you go out of network. Nice scare piece, though.Liberalmannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04612454539046863752noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4320479736034351430.post-58521469395105455892013-11-01T17:56:52.825-05:002013-11-01T17:56:52.825-05:00Thersites,
