John Adams put a similar sentiment this way:

But this question keeps occurring to me...

What happens to a nation when so many of her citizens lose faith in their representatives' ability to govern?

  3. What happens? We transform from One Nation Under God to a land with a bunch of competing tribes squatting on it.

I believe the antidote to be a true REVIVAL of devotion to First Principles –– a retrn to faith in Almught God's Truth and Justice.

We have no info-media-academia complex to promote that. Indeed, that complex is pushing in the opposite direction -- and succeeding in doing so.

Grim point -- but a point well taken. **sigh**

    8. From the Catholic Encyclopedia

Pelagianism received its name from Pelagius and designates a heresy of the fifth century, which denied original sin as well as Christian grace.

Traditional Mainline Protestant theology also condemns Pelagianism.

I don't know how this relates to what we are facing today.

  5. Americans have never had faith in their government. They “go along” because they have only limited say in government.

I delete whatever I choose, sometimes totally and sometimes leaving the fact that a comment was made; as you've undoubtedly found out by now.

Our (AOW and me) mantra is, OUR BLOG OUR RULES. If you can't live with it, hit the road. If you wish to contact me privately to discuss the matter I can arrange that.

In the meantime I'm trying to keep this from devolving further.

    15. TC,
Nah. SF is not a retard. Assuming that you mean SF and not Warren, that is.

Sure, the two of you disagree about certain matters. That should be no big deal, IMO. As for the attacks, they have pretty much been tit for tat. It seems to me that there has been quite enough obsession to go around -- and more than once.

Look. You and I go back several years, Beamish. Let's just let things be for a while. Really, enough is enough. We all have other things to do -- or, at least, I do.

The last three days have been hell on wheels for me. I'm not referring to blogging but rather to health matters (Mr. AOW's and mine). I'd whine about getting older if the whining would make anything better.

We had one. Religious leaders aligned with business in opposition to the New Deal (that's when Billy Graham got his start). William Buckley fired the first mainstream salvo with God and Man at Yale which laid the foundation for conservative discontent and indivisibly linked laissez-faire capitalism and fundamentalism.
White male supremacy had its standard bearer.

Now the right fights the culture war which is largely about controlling people's sexuality and smashing any remnant of the social welfare state.
They have been quite successful at one goal - creating an under class.

    2. In the spirit of never allowing a crisis go to waste, FDRs new deal was a communist grab for absolute power; any responsible American should have resisted. Ducky's understanding of almost everything is underwhelming.

    3. Not to mention Billy Graham was too busy desegregating Baptist seminaries and proposing taxpayer funded public education at the time in question.

    4. Public funded education really means public funded brainwashing.

    5. You're correct, Beamish. His position on integration was pretty solid.

But don't try to tell me he was supporting public schools after prayer was removed. He wanted all hints of Darwin removed and implementation of a conservative indoctrination that would have made even Sam happy.

    6. I do not believe Ducky's head will ever explode, but implosion is a real possibility: his cranium is a sinkhole just waiting to happen. He also offers irrefutable evidence that Hillary Clinton was right all along: it does take a village to raise an idiot. I do not favor public education because of the overwhelming evidence that it doesn't work. After twelve years of public funded education, the United States excels in only one thing: producing the world's least educated young people. How anyone can support this notion defies logic. Parents should decide where their children are educated; publicly funded schools should not be one of those choices. That said, there is a role for government in education, which is to suggest a range of "state approved" instructional materials for use in private schools/academies. This will ensure that students aren't being taught how to remove the heads of infidels with mommy's kitchen knife during recess. Ducky doesn't "get this" of course because the only thing he hears inside his head is an echo echo echo.

  12. Actually TC... MLK was dually aligned with the National Baptist Convention and the American Baptist Convention. The Southern Baptist group split from the Northern Baptist Convention [later called American Baptists] over the issue of appointing slave owners as missionaries. It took the Southern Baptists til 1995 to formally renounce their previous slave approving stance.

The National Baptist Convention, historically black, also counts MLK as one of their own.

But history shows MLK was never part of the Southern Baptist Convention.

You stated MLK was a Southern Baptist, which in short hand means he was part of that denomination. He wasn't. Period.

    Bruh... you were just wrong.
