America Today

Kid posted the following comment at GeeeeeZ! on June 28, 2013. In my view, Kid's comment is an accurate summary of the sad plight of America today:

[P]oliticians spend the vast majority of their time stealing money for themselves, friends, and masters.

On occasion, especially around election time the crack the door open to 'speak to the public, and say stuff they feel appeals to the people who vote for them.

Any input from polls, campaign strategists (marketing people) etc all boil into one pot labeled demographic marketing results.

A consensus is reached describing what position they must verbally (not voting) take on each popular/in the news issue. Marketing tells them to support or not the gay community, abortion pro-choice or life or whatever, and if the results weigh heavily in one direction then they take a hard verbal stance one way or the other. Has no bearing on how they'll actually vote later on.

If the marketing results are unclear, then they simply take all sides of the issue. ie john fing kerry in 2004 "I will never allow others to make America's decisions for them but We must have a global test". Diametrically opposed statements in the same sentence. They do it all the time.

They are public opinion whores at election time and vote as needed once they are voted in. If any fur flies as a result of one of their votes, they simply give some lame ass excuse like "I had to vote to allow your 1st born to be killed so I could pull in the democrats later to vote to allow you to decide what underwear to wear tomorrow."

It is 101% bullsh*t. Sorry Z, but it's so insulting it's indescribable.

The only thing I don't understand is how they can keep from splitting their sides when giving interviews to 'the media'.

Unreal. Picture politicians sitting in a van near a grade school with writing on the side that says Free Candy and Puppies.

Why anyone would give one of them the time of day is now beyond me, let alone send them money. Good God.

My thoughts about the above:

I began to realize all this back in 2008 before the election when I was co-hosting a weekly radio show in Phoenix. Z will remember that venture, I think.

The show was self-funded, meaning that we the hosts paid in full. No commercials so as to have no restraint on the content we were putting out on the air waves.

With only two exceptions, not a single conservative individual/blogger donated any money. All the blathering about reaching out beyond preaching to the choir, and conservatives would not put their money where their mouths were.

Contrast the above with the Left and with the Big Boys of all political stripes.

Now, I have no doubt that many conservative organizations could not properly organize for the 2012 National Election because of interference. But that's not the whole ball of wax. Not by a long shot!

Conservatism has, largely, been reduced to stitch and bitch -- as FT mentioned. Stitch and bitch has value for individuals, but stitch and bitch is not a viable political force.

WE THE PEOPLE have been reduced to WE THE PEONS!

Historically, what happens to a society when such a disconnect occurs?

  2. Personally, I can't stand the bleeding heart posts that the liberals have been posting about that Poor Innocent Trayvon Martin.
No one says a word about the long and delinquent wrap sheet this little "Child Thug" had. And that even his own Mother kicked him out of the house or that he had recently been arrested for possession of Burglar Tools and Stolen Jewelry.

Innocent "Child" or a trouble-making Thug?
Zimmerman was attacked by the "Child" thug and had every right to self defense.
And by the way, did anyone ever think that the media, and these liberal politicians like Obama, Holder, Sharpton and Andrew Cuomo have blood on their hands, by promoting this lynching of a man who was found to be NOT GUILTY??? And by stirring people up to commit violence...

All your liberal nutball cohorts are so intent upon promoting havoc in the wake of what you call an unjust trial, because it didn't go "YOUR" way..

Isn't it funny how quick these Liberals are to whine and cry, and riot now that the shoe is on the other foot!

Well, just try breaking into my house and I will use broom to pick up your remains after you get 10 slugs in your head and belly from my shotgun.

  3. With Karl Rove in control of the next election by profiteering from those that have little interest in returning our country to its roots, I have little hope.

  4. "So, are we in the last days of our republic?"

    My kneejerk answer is yes.

Upon reflection, I don't think we're losing it so much as watching it transmogrify.

Our nation would be unrecognizable to Toqueville. Hell, even Truman, Eisenhower or JFK would be shocked at what we have become.

We are decadent, lazy and stupid. Barely half of us have jobs.

Our governments at all levels are venal and corrupt, but the most damnable charge leveled against them is that they are inefficient, wasteful and end up causing more problems than they solve.

    Cotton Mather comes to mind:

"Virtue begat prosperity, and the daughter killed the mother."

So, America will not "end." We will just slowly slouch towards a North American Argentina or Greece.

Perhaps in 50 or 100 years, when we are totally broke, we'll break up, with different pieces joining up with various competing powers of that time...

My kids are smart and speak other languages, I'm not worried for them or for their future generations.

  5. I hope one benefit of this is that smart, industrious people will refuse to fight our nation's wars.

I would not do it again. Why fight for the right of grown men to sit on their asses wearing sports jerseys that back in my day only children wore, and wear sports team ballcaps crooked while watching ball sports?

Why fight for the rights of arrogant college kids to trash everything I believe in.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but I say #%*& 'em.

  6. Nice comment / quote. The pictures really does sum it up. We used to have high hopes, dreams of space travel, returning to the moon, cars that fly, continued creation of new and valuable products.

Today we have a sad future and no dream of changing course. The Republican leadership is useless.

  7. Eric Holder has no choice but to file civil rights violations. now that the NAACP has demanded it...they can't risk not following through; to do so would cause OUTRAGE in the "black community". After all, Trayvon looked like Hussein's imaginary son:

The problem that have is that they already investigated this case before, found nothing proving any violation of civil rights.
But knowing this administration, Obama and Holder will invent something.
Their only problem is that they can't afford another scandal.

  8. That sums up the political atmosphere these days quite well. If a politician states what he believes now a days, and it's not liberal, they are beheaded out back.

  9. That's right, Odie.

You try to foist folks like Bachmann, Santorum, Perry, Cain, Palin etc. on normals and you are indeed told to leave the room.

And as long as you espouse that kind of fringe right combination of laissez-faire economics and theocracy you are going to be left howling at the moon (or stitching and bitching as AOW says, not familiar with the phrase) as Kapital reams you.

Now, just what can people do collectively to regain power? I know, George Zimmerman is the answer.

And after Citezens United, AOW. To complain that the Left (whatever the bleep that is in right wing world) has the funding just leaves me shaking my head.
We are permanently divided and have no hope until we snap the bleep out of it.

There is a progressive force in American politics? What's the bell weather, gay marriage? If you've been paying attention, Odie listen up, gay rights have been progressing because the political establishment knows there is broad popular support. Gays have come out and are not seen as any kind of threat by the majority of the population.
So maybe there is hope for cooperation and unity but I have to say this, AOW, the religious right is going to be left out. People hare as much stomach for it as they have for the Taliban.

  10. The LEFT is everything that is not RIGHT, Canardo.

  11. "So, are we in the last days of our republic?"

Our republic has become a corrupt democray. Both parties are quilty!
I think the tianic has to be sinking before people will wake up and try to save themselves.

  12. As far as the Republic goes, is this the beginning of the end, or the end of the beginning? I am not sure, but I always think we are more robust against these things. Surely, we are not all determined to kill capitalism, put people into shackles, and deprive people of the means to make a physical living.

Or, maybe we will do all those things. So far, there have been few Trayvon riots, and we have the promise that this weekend will be the time for big protests.

The people trying to kill capitalism and deprive us of the means of making a living are the same people who are organizing the Trayvon protests.

  13. Yes, FT, you are in a position to dictate what's right. Sad.

So we leave you to "stitch and bitch".

Besides, how can someone who puts Emily Dickinson on a pedestal and hasn't a working knowledge of Japanese cinema be a reasonable judge of the arts?

    ReplyDelete
  14. FT, you should research the character of Mr. Bast in William Gaddis' JR.

I bring it up not only because Gaddis was the source of my realization of the destructiveness of capitalism in the arts and in hopes you might gain some insight into why the decline has been so precipitous.

@Silverfiddle - I am now to the point of agreement with those leftists who are actively destroying our country. F-em. Let them live in the Fascist trough they create and see how they like it.
Ultimately, it is the only way for them to be enlightened as well, so it's an easy choice t make.

I saw it -- Shaw's post and the comments thereto. Quite something, huh?

I am a realist about myself and know that my views are often entrenched. I suppose that all of us are entrenched in our views. Still, the Left's ranting about the "real facts" of the death of Trayvon Martin are so far removed from the EVIDENCE -- i.e., the indisputable facts -- that it is manifest insanity to condemn Zimmerman as a murderer. Self-defense was the defense's case; the stand your ground law was not in play during the trial.

  21. As usual, if there's ANYTHING that you don't know about how and why the Left is the root of all evil -- read Ducky... if you've got the stomach for it.

Sounds like you and I are in a similar place along the road, buddy.

For there to be a reaction, people must first feel the full brunt of the action, and that has not happened yet.

As I said, I'm raising my kids well, they are smart and capable of making their way, so I am not worried for my progeny.

  23. We all need to keep up the fight against stealth jihad of the Islaimsts in their agenda forthe quest to bring Islam to much power in America. As Thomas Jefferson explained "A conviction that we are right accomplishes half the difficulity of correcting wrong." Mr. Jefferson had also stated "Our part then is to pursue with steadiness what is right... assured that the public approbation will in end be with us." He further said "Fortitude...teaches us to meet and surmount difficulties; notto fly from them."

  26. One thing that America needs now is to wake up to the reality of that the Quran really is. An important question: is the Quran the Word of God or is it a fabrication of a Man. Thus, is the Quran the truth or a fiction and a hoax? The jihadists use many verses from the Quran as the Main source of justification for their violence, mayhem and murders. There, the question is clearly given on pages 145 through 157 in THE ISLAMIC INVASION by Robert Morey in which he wrote a section on the Quran with its self-contradictions. Just two of the many he cited are the following “The Quran differs on whether a day is a thousand years or fifty thousand years in God’s sight’ and “Who was first to believe? Abraham or Moses [Sura 6:14 versus 7:143]? The above is inconsistent and illogical. Further, Morey wrote about “The fact that Judaism and Christianity broke up into different sects was used in the Quran to prove that they are not of God [Suras 30:20-32. 42:13, 14]. Yet Islam has broken up into many warring sects and therefore cannot be true if the Quran is right.” Moreover, Morey in his book shows many more contradictions and absurdities in the Quran, there are and how Muhammad incorporated extra Biblical and Jewish folklore along with pre-Islamic Arabian myth and parts of Zoroastrian and Hindu stories into the Quran. Furthermore, the Muslims claim that “the Quran is the direct, literal word of God unmodified in any way by the Prophet who uttered them at the bidding of God.” Nevertheless, in the book UNVEILING ISLAM by Ergun Mehmet and Eethi Caner has shown that the Quran was modified in the following account on pages 45. “Muhammad felt the need to improve on the words of Allah, since he changed Allah’s wisdom for his own on several occasions. A hadith tells of the nonchalant emendations of Muhammad:’ On a number of occasions he [a scribe] had, with the Prophet’s consent changed the closing words of verses. For example, when the prophet had said ‘God is mighty and wise ‘ Adbollah b. Abi Sarh suggested writing down ‘Knowing and wise’ and the Prophet answered that there was no objection. Having observed a succession of changes of this type, Adbollah renounced Islam on the grounds that revelations, if from God could not be changed at the prompting of a scribe such as himself. After his apostasy he went to Mecca and joined the Qorayshites.’ Other writers reveal that later Muhammad and his people did go war with the Qorayshites and he personally killed Abdollah. Obviously Abdollah knew too much and Muhammad wanted Abdollah’s knowledge to die with him.” In conclusion, the Quran is not only a fiction, it’s also a hoax.
