Mr. AOW and I attended the event yesterday afternoon at EIT in Sterling, Virginia.

If you look very closely around time marker :52, you can see me standing at the table in the left-rear background and buying some anti-Obama buttons. There is a tall young man wearing a red skullcap behind me and crossing from side to side.

We call the opposing argument the conflict model, suggesting that society improves when conflict demands compromise. I find it interesting that most progressives favor the former with only slight modification: society improves when everyone cooperates, and anyone who doesn't cooperate is a racist homophobe.

Even as we approach the 149th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, there is so much work left unfinished.  Republicans have been less than stellar in their attempt to right the wrongs of the past, but I must say the left has been utterly despicable.  Much of the blame for keeping minorities enslaved to government dependency is directly attributable to progressive (neo-communist) policy that confuses equal opportunity with equal result.

Huh?

According to this source, dated June 21, 2012, when Twitter went offline on that same day, two complaints read as follows:
"Twitters broke, my life has no meaning anymore," one user wrote on the social media website Tumblr.

Another wrote, "twitter is down and my life is over."
What is WRONG with these people?

Is there no end to superficiality and triviality?

Human Migration

The International Organization for Migration tells us there is no universally accepted definition for migrant, but they debate ad nauseam whether the term identifies those who freely decide to move or whether it also applies to those forcibly removed from their homeland. This is why we question the wisdom of supporting global socialist organizations. One would think there are more important issues.

Back when I was growing up, all of us had posters on the walls of our rooms, in essence, our private caves. We took pride in attaching to our walls posters that “spoke” to us or that reflected our interests. Today’s young people do the same – as do families with rec rooms. There's a rat in the house

Several years ago, an acquaintance served as an Embassy attaché in one of the Central American cesspools.  During this period, local government arrested and detained a known (thoroughly nasty) narcoterrorist.  It was difficult to distinguish between the objections voiced by the UN Humanitarian Mission, and demonstrations engineered by communist insurgencies.  Both conspired to intimidate thousands of peasants to participate in demonstrations, demanding release of the narcoterrorist.  As was typical of the communists, dozens of bombs exploded throughout the capital city, and innocent persons were targeted for assassination.  As the communists threatened utter chaos unless the government released the criminal, the constabulary cowered behind the thick doors of a very old citadel.

Remember D-Day: June 6, 1944

The following video was made by an 8th grader for a school project:


Two of my cousins served that day; one cousin was in the Army and the other in the Navy — at Omaha Beach, I believe.

Both men, in their late teens and early twenties respectively, came home physically whole, but they were never again whole psychologically. They refused to speak about what they experienced there, but we all knew that what they did and saw was horrible because they had nightmares for the rest of their lives. Nonetheless, they were among two of the staunchest patriots I have ever known, and they often said, "No regrets!" [about serving].

Both of my cousins died young: one at age 39 and the other at age 44.

Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee

The Diamond Jubilee Celebration begins today and continues through June 5.  The only other British monarch to celebrate a diamond jubilee was Queen Victoria in 1897.

I plan to watch some of the live coverage. I know that I will enjoy the pageantry and the elegance, both of which will surpass the pageantry and elegance of the royal weddings.
